DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different

Per Patch 1.82:
- Meran the Weaver now advises players on step 3 of the Cloak of Shades Part 1 quest to search for Brownie Nomads in Salisbury Plains rather than Camp Forest.

- Players will now be asked to kill more level appropriate monsters for the Cloak of Shades Part 1 quest.

Part 1 and 2

Steps:
1. Talk to the minstrel in Cotswold Village - her name is Laridia the Minstrel (sometimes you can start at step 2)

2. Talk to seamstress in Prydwen Keep - her name is Meran the Weaver and she is located along the back wall. She tells you she needs components for the Cloak of Shades. The components are found on a red adder, and a will o wisp; or a wild boar and a brownie nomad, both found in the plains. Also may ask to kill a black dog.

3.
a. Kill a red adder (glowing snake skin) which are commonly found in Salisbury Plains. My best advice is to hunt for a red adder near West Downs because you will have to take a horse ride to the next step.

b. Kill a will o wisp which is located in Campocertin Forest. A good place to find these mobs is just east of Caer Ulfwych.

c. Wild Boar (Pristine Boars Hide) -- Plains; Brownie Nomad (Sinew) -- Camp Forest or Plains; and Black Dog -- West Downs.

5. After acquiring the components return them to Meran the Weaver in Prydwen Keep - a horse ride is the quickest way. She will send you to see Dyemaster Thrurin. Thrurin wanders the woods along the road that connects Camelot to Ludlow. He can be hard to find sometimes and you need to check both sides of the road. Talk to Thrurin. He also needs components - a container and some dye. The container is found on a Dryad.

6. Kill a Dryad which can be found in the North Black Mountains or Campacorentin Forest. Dryads in the North Black Mountains can be found in the woods surrounding Snowdonia Station. Return the container to Thrurin and he will tell you how he lost the dye to a thief.

6. Kill the red dwarf chief and recover the horn of drinking. He can be found in the valley below the bull carved into the hill. From Ludlow, cross the double bridge and immediately turn east (right). As long as you stay right of the hills and left of the water, you can't miss the dwarves. I avoided everyone and picked off the chief and a matron (yellow and blue to me at 11). Return the horn to Thrurin and he will tell you how he lost the dye to a thief. You may be asked to kill a Gray Warg. Gray Wargs can be found in the north black mountains directly west of snow station at loc 19637, 33996

7. Kill Aldous Wynedd, which is a named bandit found in the South Black Mountains. He is located on top of the hill to the east of Ludlow. The hill seems to be too high to climb but it is not. Aldous hangs out with several other named thief-types and attacking him will draw some attention from the others so be careful or have a group.

8. Return the dye to Thrurin and he will send you after some black rocks from a boulderling.

9. Go kill a boulderling or a Grumoz Demon in Camelot Hills and return to Thrurin.
(another variation someone was given: step 9 kill a black dog in sailsbury plains for patch of fur.)

10. Talk to Meran, give her the components and you will receive the Cloak of Shades.

(There are actually 13 steps to this damn quest. It took me forever and I'm a minstrel! If you want the item as a scout or infiltrator, take a minstrel or theurgist with you for the run buff. The quest will take at least an hour.)

Reward:
  Cloak of Shades

At the end I was given the task of finding a black dog in Salisbury also. I have been looking for two hours and cannot find them. Even where people tell me they have seen them. this Quest has been a pain in the **** from the git go and is driving me nuts....I think I will set the Damn Cloak on fire Once I get it. I am going to go find any old black dog and hope it works.

I was asked by Meran the Weaver to get Shimmery Cloth off an Undead druid (in S. plains) and Shimmery Silk off of blated Spiders (in C. Forest).

Also, Thrurin asked me to get a Drinking horn off the Red Dwarf Chief (took a long time to spawn), liquid off of the thief Aldous, and fur of a black dog found in the plains.

I am on the black dog part and will go look where I've seen people in this thread say they are.

Anyone in Europe seen this guy? Hung around killing dwarves in the bull sign valley for a few hours tonight, but no sign of a Chief

I have seen him. Killed him last night for the Horn. There where at least 2 of them, both called 'Red Dwarf Chief' both surrounded by approx 6 lower level mobs. The chiefs where yellow to me at level 11 and the mobs around them where all grey and really easy to kill. Anyways head to the Bull sign valley, took me a little while to find them but if you head up a hill slightly they are there.

Forgot to mention that while looking at the bull on the hill standing in a forest, i turned 90 degrees to the left and headed up a small hill, thats where they where.

Laridia in Cotswold
# Mar 19 2002 at 8:57 AM Rating: Decent
She can be tough to find because she isn't IN one of the buildings in Cotswold but is BEHIND it standing near the chimney. If I'm not mistaken, its the building straight across from the Cotswold-Camelot Bridge south of the merchant hut that has the armor vendors in it.

I am unable to find Laridia in cotswold. Also, Meran is unresponsive when I tell her that Laridia sent me. Any suggestions?

Most easily found at the Druid Circle just south of West Downs. They only spawn at night.

I've seen black dogs on the first hill with tomb raiders, not too far from road.

you dont actually HAVE to kill them in the forest, you just have to kill the specific monster. As far as I can tell, this is the same for all quests that require you to hunt a specific creature.
brownie nomad?

My first step in this quest is to kill a wild boar in Salisbury Plains (easy) and a brownie nomad in the Camp. Forest. I have killed many brownie nomads in Salisbury, but I cannot find them in the Camp. Forest. Anybody know where they are?

You can kill that brownie nomad standing next to the boar in the Plains. Will give you what you need.

I am an Infiltrater I did this quest with a scout and we both had to do something different, so here goes...
Step 6....

He got the Kill a Dryad part and i got to kill The Red Dwarf Chief.
It may depend on your class as to what version of the quest you get.

Step 9.....

We didn't get the Kill the Boulderling part, we where told to...

a) Kill a black dog in Salisbury plains (they spawn at the druid rings at night /loc: 35,000/30,000). Who was yellow to us at level 11. To obtain the Black Fur.

OR

b) Kill Grumoz Demon in Camelot Hills for a Bag of Soot (loc: 55,000 / 50,000) Who was orange at level 11.

Then return the Dye to Thrurin.

Hope this helps some :)

There has to be some kind of random generator for the tasks of this quest. I am a 14th level Scout. I have been asked to kill the Red Dwarf Chief among other things. From what I've read here, he spawns in the same dwarf camp that Shaman Alsis (sp?) spawns. This camp is north of the bridge and to the very east in Black Mountains South. I have been killing the dwarves that spawn there, but I still have not seen him. Has anyone seen him anywhere else?

Bloated spiders are found in Camp forest, a short run ENE of Caer Ulfwich. This is the same area where the Arachnida Quest sends you. Large bloated spiders are the ones near the entrance to Keltoi and the Green Witch.
Locations of various monsters
# Jan 30 2002 at 4:41 PM Rating: Default
I've done this quest three times with three characters and have gotten several different monsters to kill so I'll list general locations here:

Gray Wargs: from the bindstone in Snowdonia Station, head West up and over the first hill to a large gray area south and below the goblin camp. Wargs are swarming there.
Red Adders: Salisbury plains, everywhere you step.
Grumoz demon: INSIDE the fallen tower, south of Mithra's. I've stood for 45 minute killing the Manes demons outside but never saw a Grumoz until I stealthed inside. Scary!
Dryads: From the Snowdonia bindstone, follow the road south to the first grove of trees. Head into them to the west and you'll find two packs of dryads there.
Will-o-wisp: From Adribard's retreat, take the road south until you see some castle ruins to your west. Turn EAST From there and head up the hill. WoW hang out all around there.
Aldous: obviously on the huge hill NE of Ludlow.

I think that's all the ones I've had to kill.

Addtitional Info
# Jan 24 2002 at 9:09 PM Rating: Decent
1. You can go right to the weaver in Prydwen if you say "Laridia sent me" to her.
2. If you have to kill the red dwarf, note I had problems here, killed him and got nothing, the CSR said because I did not right click on him in melee range, (used a spell to pull him) so if you don't get the container, get in melee range and right click on him before you kill him. The red dwarf is not always there, looks like he is on a 30+ minute timer.
3. After you get the dye from the Aldous Wynedd you have an additional step to get some rocks so Thrurin can make the dye. I had to kill one of Shales buddies to get it.
4. You won't do this quest in 15 minutes, even riding horses it took me over an hour.

Where are Grumoz Demons in camelot hills? AFTER I killed aldous wynedd and got the dye back, Thrurin told me I had to kill a grumoz demon to get a bag of soot-WTF is that? Any help would be appreciated
RE: Jackalson
# Mar 04 2002 at 3:35 AM Rating: Default
I have no idea where to find these, either. I've been to the area where everyone says to look, but no luck so far. I've only found a LOT of manes demons (inside the tower), a weakened demon, and a couple named monsters, in addition to the random undead spawns that roam the area. I've even sat there for a full 24hrs game-time to make sure they aren't spawned at night or day specifically.

Someone help, please?
Items Aren't Dropping

Do the items drop automatically like in other quests? I have killed over a dozen undea druids and no shiny cloth.
