The skull is part of a quest given by Sergeant Alain at the Salisbury/ Camelot Hills bridge.
He asks you to rid the forest of Growler, and in return he will reward you...Just xp reward, but if your doing the Grolwer quest, you might as well do the Sergeant Alain part also.

DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different Growling Ghost is the main quest, this is a subquest. 1. Find Cyfwich Diwych in Camelot Hills and get Growler's Neclace (far NE corner of Camelot Hills) He's a bandit found on the road to Castle Savauge. A few bandit camps are located to the right of the road enroute there (basically past Mithra). There are three camps there, each camp has a "Diwych" at it cause they're brothers, but only one camp has the right one that you need to kill. Just make sure the name matches, his exact location is: 50043, 12549. 2. Return Neclace to Growler 3. Free his bones (slay him) Return to Sargeant Alain to finish The Growling Ghost quest. |

In the bottom of the quest description it says one will receive Growler and Growler's Skull for doing this quest. There's a link for the weapon Growler under rewards but nothing for the skull.

I have done the quest. When I first saw growler, we was on the right side( facing the forest from salisbury plains disected by roard)in a patch of differently colored grass. Then when I returned after getting the necklace, he was on the left side a little deeper into the forest. I dont know if he spawns at either or he switches when u get the necklace or if he walks over there.
Well I have actually seen him spawn on the north side of the road right near the plains, and he spawns just a couple of minutes after being killed.

I think he spawns at either/or...all the times I've seen him, he's on the South side of road, and just up the slope, within sight of the road.
