I appealed it Friday afternoon. I've put in about 9 hours in-game since then. I've gone from 81st in queue to 31st. Progress I suppose.
I'm the guy from the "stuck on step 1 also" reply earlier. I took a couple friends along to have them test it. One got to step 2 and the other is stuck at step 1 like me. The guy that got to step 2 said he had to talk to him twice.

DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different Vik, the Kobold, next to the road with a broken down cart, in a field near Mularn gives you the quest to go find Hrrgyf the named hill cat and retrieve his book "The Yellow Canary." After killing Hrrgyf you get the book in your inventory and when you go back to Vik he gives you a letter to take to Dvalin and give to Brok. The reward is nice experience and cash. Vik stomps his feet angrily, mumbling under his breath in utter frustration. Vik says, "The blasted cart has broken, I knew something would go wrong on my [way to Fort Veldon]." Vik says, "Ja! Fort Veldon! On my way from Vasudheim. Bu' me and my men were attacked by [marauding wild animals]!" Vik says, "You'd never believe it if I told ya! Huge creatures they were. [Big jaws I tell ya]." Vik says, "Never seen nothin' like it in my life. Was [the biggest cat] I've seen in my whole life, not to mention it scared off all my men." Vik says, "Oh ya, made a funny sound it sure did, sounded like [hrrrrrgyyf] it did. Had a friend too, mean old Spat!" Vik says, "What's that you say? Oh ya! The blasted beast ran off and took my favorite book, [The Yellow Canary]." You have been given the Monstrous Beast quest. Vik says, "Fetch it for me and I shall reward ye handsomely. [Step #2]Find Hrrgyf and the book, The Yellow Canary. Vik says, "Well well, lookie what you brought me! Ye done well and I thannk thee!" Vik says, "I must tell ya I'm glad I lefy me money purse behind in Dvalin. Go see [my man Brok] there." Vik says, "Take this note with ya so ya don't have to explain wha' happened here." [Step #4] Seek out Brok in Dvalin and deliver Vik's troubling letter. Brok says, "Well well, what is this?" Brok says, Thank you for bringing this news from my friend. Seems Vik always runs into trouble when he travels to Mularn. Please, take this, I hope it suits you well." You are awarded 9 silver and some copper! You are awarded experience! You have finished the Monstrous Beast quest. Hrrgyf is known to wander about, look near Darkness Falls (12812,24648), Vendo caverns and Svadsad Faste. lvl 10 received 16,896 experience and 11 silver. |

My two hunting companions moved to Step 2 right away - I am stuck on Step 1 and Vik won't talk to me. Has anyone send an appeal and got a resolution on this?

we all know where the beast spawns, and who gives the quest. SOME of us have an extra step that others seem not to have. Some just go and kill the beast, others must speak to somebody other then Vik to "learn" about the attack on Vik's cart and about Hyrrgf. Then... they can finally kill Hyrrgf and turn in the book.

So I see Vik and talk to him and he gives me the quest. I already have it printed out from DAoC Warcry so I go down and kill Hrrrgyf but my journal says "learn of raid on viks cart and about hrrgyf". So I figured that I missed a step and need to go talk to him. Well every time I click on him I only get the message "Vik stomps his feet angrily, mumbling under his breath in utter frustration." Anyone have any clue what I'm doing wrong? I'd like to get this quest out of my journal.

How do you release a quest? I have this quest you speak of, but like other have killed the named cat a gazillion times with no book to be found in my inventory. Was wondering how I erase the quest from my journal.

If you've returned The Yellow Canary book to Vik, he has given you a note to give to Brok. Brok is in Dvalin. Give Brok the note and he will give you your reward and complete the quest.

If 'yes', then the next step is to kill Hrrgyf.
If you look on the map, hrrgyf can be found on the mountain just west of the southern tip of the lake in the Vale of Mularn. BE CAREFUL as hrrgyf is not the only, nor the meanest, cat on the hill. (See Wargrimm's loc numbers below.)

i talked to vik, i accepted the quest, now in my journal it says "learn of raid on viks cart and about hrrgyf". ive killed hrrgyf several times no book. vik will give me no more details.

I don't recall that intermediate step when I did the quest. However, I did kill hrrgyf but didn't find the book in my inventory. It was late, I was tired but I /appeal-ed it anyway. In less than half an hour it was all over. (Somehow, I missed it in my inventory.) The /advice and /appeal commands are there for just this kind of thing.

when he does his stomp the feet part.. you need to right click on him again and he will give the part you are missing..

Are those lOCS right? I am looking for Hryygyf cat on the hill due west of haggerfel near the Vendo camp and lake...but that is no where near those locations given...

I also am stuck on step two....everyone says to go talk to Viking Karl for the rest of the quest, but neither Vik or Viking Karl will talk to me again...

Vik = 24695,55381 Hryygyf cat= 12261,26351 Cat spawns with other cats on side of moutain with a snowlike outcropping. Yellow con at 12th lvl. Reward is about 9 silver and some xp.

Forget about this quest its a huge waste of time, the reward is only 9 silver and about a half bub of exp at level 11, hardly worth the trip to devlin and the time hunting that damn named cat :P

I have to disagree with your assessment. Doing this quest will open up other, potentially better quests.
In my opinion, every player should do every quest. If you see other people camping a mob you need, just group with them. You'll both get the item you need, so everyone wins.

I have always found him WAY up on the hill. You generally cannot see him unless you are on the facing of the hill, about half way up. I have seen him in the same area every time I go by there.

Be sure that if you are facing the lake (lake to the north) that you climb the hill to your left. Hrrgyf seems to spawn randomly night or day.

he is usually up during the night time. i believe he is also a part of the warrors quest. but we killed him once for my friend then he spawned about 2 seconds later

I think I got 11 0r 15 silver out of this one. The cat spawns on the hill at the south end of the lake in the upper part of the vale of mularn. good luck he conned yellow to my 11 zerker. and theres alot of other cats around. thats how you will be able to tell you have the right spawn spot.

Thanks for the spawn loc, u wouldnt happen to know how often he spawns would ya? I hunted this area for about a half hour and never saw him. Any info on this would be greatly appriciated :)
