DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different

Characters that were created after Patch Version 1.79 do not receive this Epic quest.

You must complete the Traveler's Way quest first.

Speak to Lady Winchell in cleric guild. She speaks of 2 guards who have stolen Camelot's battle plans and are planning on escaping thru the Castle Sauvage portal when the next bunch of warriors go thru. You are instructed to find these 2 guards and kill them --bringing plans back to her. You get to keep whatever magical item that drops.

I found the 2 guards to the left of castle sauvage if you are facing it--they were some distance apart when i first saw them and both were blue to me at 11--they do aid each other--if one is about to die it calls for help and the other one joins in. They may also have a priest there to help them.

Returned to Camelot and give the plans to Lady Winchell and she instructs you to seek out Scribe Veral in the palace. (he can be found near to where the name
registar is in camelot) Reward was exp and some coin (about 8 silver and some copper) for the quest--and allowed to keep the other item that dropped.

Helm Of the Observant -- Cleric
Bracer of the Stoic Defender -- Paladin

Rewards:
  Helm of the Observant
  Bracer of the Stoic Defender

Just a note, scribe Veral can be found where you would normally find a scribe.... the royal scribes room in the royal library. It's in Camelot Castle proper.

A level 12 paladin will walk over them, con blue but you can easily wipe out all three and even survive if a fourth happens to spawn right after the three died. Found there where everyone else did...

Last night I saw the three of them befor I got the quest all three of them were blue I was 10th at the time. When I got the quest I made my way over and the guards coned yellow. I decided not to die needlessly and called it a night. I hope to find them alone this time and blue.

I finished this quest at lvl 13. All 3 were green so I thought i'll take the priest first so he cant heal the guards. When he was down about 3/4 health he started yell for help. He died so on to the 3 guards. I got 1 down about 3/4 health and another priest came running up and started healing. Luckily I killed both guards before finally dying at he hands of the priest. Got the map and bracer though so all good.

Hmmm, I just finished this quest at level 28 with my paladin and got both the map and the bracer. Needless to say, you slaughter the guards in 1 or 2 blows at 28 without using maneuvers.
Interesting anomaly...

As in other posts, the guards are in a clearing just west of the keep that is south of Fortress Sauvage. There are two guards and a Dwarven Priest there. I couldn't do this solo until my Paladin hit Level 13. I hit 13, and was getting ready to attack, when a small group of players showed up and killed them quickly before I got there. No problem, I thought, I will just wait for them to spawn. I waited about three or four minutes, and one guard and the dwarven priest spawned. So, I decided to make it easy on myself and kill them before the second guard showed up. I took them out with no problem, but the second guard never did show up, even though I waited around for several more minutes. I got my loot, though, so I decided to quit while I was ahead. You must complete the Level 7 Traveler's Way uest (for a Paladin) before getting this one from the trainer at Level 11, and you must complete it before hitting level 15. Like I said, though, by level 13, you should have no problem as long as you have a good weapon and a good set of armor.

Location and Suggestion
# Feb 26 2002 at 3:22 PM Rating: Default
OK...after exhaustive traverseing of the northern half of Camelot Hills, I can report the location of the two Convert Guards and their Dwarven Friar buddy.

From Camelot, go NE until you are at the zone's most northern border. You'll see a single guard tower to the west of the road that leads to Castle Sauvage. Just a bit SE of this tower is a clearing. In that clearing you'll find the three.

A suggestion: try to do this quest around level 11-13, as you run the risk of not getting the Bracer if the mobs are grey to you. I did the quest with no difficulty at all at level 15, but was unable to get the loot dropped off any of the mobs because they were grey to me.
How to start quest
# Feb 20 2002 at 4:17 PM Rating: Default
I believe in order for one to begin this level 11 quest, I think you need to have completed your level 7 quest as well. I know that if you do not complete the 11 quest, you cannot begin your Epic Quest at 15. Thats at least how it worked for my other characters.
Castle Sauvage?

Where in the Hades is this Castle? I don't see any reference on my maps to it.
Question
# Jan 17 2002 at 9:06 PM Rating: Default
How come I never got this quest? I talk to my Cleric trainer in Camelot after almost every level and she never gave me it.

I got this quest from the Paladin trainer after leveling up to 11.

Found the buggers, and being the suicidal lunatic that I am, I ran towards both guards and the priest, who were all blue for me, and attacked em.

I died.

I did however, kill one guard (almost got the other one too) before I died, and got both the map and the bracer from him.

So I completed the quest without really doing what I was told to do :D
Level 12 Paladin quest

This quest was given by the Paladin trainer at level 12. But, it did not yield the Helm of the Observant after completion.
I also ran into the Dwarvin Preist

and the two guards. I agro'd them to the guards near the keep. Went back to the spot and a single guard popped... killed him with no trouble and finished the quest in 5 minutes!
Help

I am a lvl 13 cleric is there anyway for me to get this quest. I have asked Lady Winchell and she said she had no quest for me.... I guess i have learned the lesson of talking to trainer after every level...

Any magic items retrieved are yours to keep. I went after the guards and found them keeping company with a Dwarven Priest. They were both blue to me and the priest was green (Thank God!!).
Well, I plastered on all my buffs and went at one with smite, 3x, hard. When they all three came after me, I waited till they were close and cast Heavenly Visions and drew the first guard aaway from the others while they stood and admired the heavenlies.
Finishing him pretty quick (he was down by over half when he got in melee range), I targeted the other guard and hit him with smite, but was interrupted since the HV had worn off by then. Then the battle was on! I was down about 10% and facing a blue and a green who were both at full strength. I wanted to hold off till I could use HV again, to stymie the dwarf, but hadn't time, so I smacked them both with Drive Evil and just wailed on the guard.
Eventually, he died, but I was way down and it was just me and the dwarf, with him at full health...you can guess who won, in the end. But, before he managed to kill me, I had taken both the guards and hurt the dwarf pretty seriously. He was down about 3/4, and it didn't really matter that he killed me...I had the plans, and both guards had dropped magic items perfectly suited to a Cleric! I got the Helm listed above as well one other item, which I don't recall right now, but I do recall being impressed with it. Heavens, that was 5 lvls ago! How long am I expected to remember these things? hehe
very tough

Cleric

As soon as I hit 11, I went off to find the convert guards. When I found them wandering near the first guard tower of Sauvage, both guards were blue to me as well as the Dwarven Priest. I suggest atleast 2 friends equal to your level or ability, because it is a tough fight. I managed to kill both guards but the priest killed me. However, I still got the cap and completed the quest :).

Unfortunatly I sold the map as well and am Stuck. Does anyone have any ideas on how to unstick the quest. I cant start new quests till it is over, and the priest aint dropping the map.
location of the guards
# Nov 03 2001 at 6:43 PM Rating: Good
if you start at the guard tower just south of Castle suavage and go SW over the hill, stop at the bottom and wait. If you don't see them, they'll respawn and be more than happy to come to you.
RE: location of the guards
# Mar 17 2002 at 1:01 AM Rating: Decent
Thanks. This is the clearest directions to find them. (Note for other posters who are directionaly impaired: Shift-C to pop up a visible compass). Its definately SW of the guard tower... just South of the bottle neck leading to Sauvage.
Sold my map :(
# Nov 01 2001 at 2:16 PM Rating: Default
I accidentally sold the map and now my quest is stuck in my journal forever. I can't get any new cleric quests either.
Guard Location
# Oct 29 2001 at 12:33 PM Rating: Default
Also, I found them just up the trail from the keep. If you are at the keep, head south on the trail, and pass the tower. Then in the area to your left there is a patch of trees and dirt. This is where I found them wandering. No more than 30 seconds from the tower.
Paladin Quest

This is also a paladin quest, recieved at level 11. When you kill the 2 guards and the dwarven priest (not sure if the priest is always there, but he was for me.) You recieve the map and a magic bracer. Return the map for xp and money, and keep the bracer. Cant remeber the stats on the bracer, but it is a level 4 item, and it was green to me at level 11.
Both guards were yellow, and the priest was blue. It was quite a fight, I suggest getting help. The priest was healing the 2 guards, and the guards are tough to kill.
