DISCLAIMER: Your Steps and Tasks may be different

Per patch 1.75b:
- Oaken Boots - This quest is now geared towards Armsmen and Paladins between levels 20 and 30.

Talk to Calya in Caer Ulfwych. She will tell you she is an apprentice smith and she has a tale to tell you. What you have to do is get Oaken Bark from a Oaken Knight (just follow road north from her and at the edge of forest into plains go left or west and the oak men can be found there. Make sure you kill Oaken Knight to get bark).

Once you get bark you take it to her brother in Humberton Village (north of Camelot) his name Contyth. Also you get bark you go to Humberton not back to Calya.

When you talk to Guy in Humberton he says you have to get some special iron nails and to get them you have to go north of Snowdonia station and get metal shavings (from ghostly miners north of Snow station and near Swanton keep, same location of Dragon Ant Queen for the Dragon Ant Charm quest.

The miners appear at night past the dragon ants, more up the hill NW. Once you get shavings you go see Mathien in Snowdonia Sation (who is the father of both people) and he then sends you to an armorer (Guards' Armorer) in Swanton keep north of Snow. Station. The armorer asks for nails and Bark then gives you Oaken boots.

Reward:
  Oaken Boots

Found the Oaken Knight without any problem, on the hillside past the oaken men. He looks JUST LIKE an oaken man, so you have to check them all out.
terrible oaken knight

Right Hunting spot?

I agree with the rest of you about the length of the quest time. I searched for the Oaken Knight one day fro 2 and 1/2 hour throught realm night and day and did not see him. I was killing on the weest side of the road in the small valley with the million oaken men. I must have slaughtered 3 or 4 generations of them as i figured that it might cause him to spawn. Frustrated and cussing i gave up and headed to the marsh. I will finish the quest when i have more time and will try to update what i have written. God i hope i am search on the right side of the road lol. (just spawn damn you).

P.S. i have not seen any hour spawn camps on this game yet which i love, but have read that some spawns are about a hour on the spawn time. Any info would help.
Ghost Miners
# Nov 15 2001 at 12:31 PM Rating: Default
The Miners can be found on the other side of the road from Swanton Keep. They are above the Dragon ants, and of course they are night spawns. Becareful as they tend to swarm easly.
Oaken Knight

The information on the location of the Oaken Knight is totally wrong. He pops right near the ghost Growler which is on the EAST side of the road, not West. I wasted a lot of time until I realized this. I found him three times right at location 62214, 13982.
Oaken Knight Spawn is Ludicrous
# Nov 13 2001 at 9:23 PM Rating: Default
Okay, my advice to anyone interested in doing this quest... don't waste your time!

The Oaken Knight has eluded me for about four hours, now. I actually did kill him once, but was unlucky enough to get stuck in a tree when I did and a bug apparently prevented the kill from registering (I didn't get the quest item).

The thing that is most annoying about this quest is the fact that there is NOTHING to do while you wait for the damn thing to spawn. EVERYTHING is gray to me at level 15. I'm bored out of my skull!

Currently, I am sitting in the middle of the spot that I see most of 'em spawn after I hack 'em down in two hits with my polearm. I figured that I may get some piece of mind by venting about how much this sucks, and maybe he'd wander over the hill and aggro on me (the Knight is blue to you at level 15).

This quest sucks. There's no CSR rep online for me to express my disappointment. I feel like I'm back in EverCrap waiting for Zordak to spawn.

I certainly hope there aren't other quests like this!
I found knight but can't find darn Ghost miners.
# Nov 13 2001 at 3:19 PM Rating: Default
I jsut need to find the miners but can't seem to find them. I have searched all the hills north of Snowdonia Station and before Swanton Keep. Searched for two nights and nothing. All I see are the darn Bouldelings, the trackers, and the rock elementals.

Can anyone be a bit more specific as to where I can find the miners?

Thanks
Ghost miners can be found..

NW of Snow.Station, on a high hill. It's pretty easy to spot, since it's the tallest feature of the landscape in the area. they hang around on the slopes, just below the snowline, and they like to help each other out. You have to get fairly close, since they are wispy critters and spawn at night, making them difficult to see.

If you pass the Ant Hill, you're headed in the right direction. You should be able to see Swanton Keep in the distance to the North. Beware of the occassional Enraged Cockatrice in the area.

I like to hunt them from the South face of the mountain, from which, if you head West along the slope, you'll run into the little fort where lives Ulfwyg, Mootang and the Goblin King. Across road, to the East, is a nice spot for Large Boulderlings, also.

I spent 4 days and 4 nights looking for the Oaken Knight. Never found him. Don't know how many Oak Men I killed, but it was alot.

I was in a group and one of them found the Knight and killed it. He got the Oaken Bark but I didn't.

This quest really sucks.
Camping ! Help out
# Nov 11 2001 at 5:08 AM Rating: Decent
If you plan to camp a spot like this for long and the mobs are so low invite a couple low level friends for the exp. They can keep an eye out for the spawn and would appreciate the help.
Excellent advice!
# Dec 05 2001 at 11:00 AM Rating: Decent
There's nothing amkes you feel so good about yourself as helping others progress! You may have to disband, if you're grouped, in order that the lower level char's receive any xp for their kills, but that's a small price and you can always regroup when the Knight is found, or killed and you head on to more adventure.

Camping?
# Nov 10 2001 at 2:06 AM Rating: Default
This quest has given me a headache so far. I spent the last hour or two tonight running around the Oak Man spawn hunting for the Knight with no luck. This is approaching what I would call a camp (although not as bad as EQ) and not a fun one at that.

I am currently level 16 and the oak men give me no exp so I hate killing them but I have been in hopes that it would make the knight pop. No luck yet. So, basically I spent almost all of my 2 hours playtime tonight and have nothing to show for it. No knight, no bark, no exp

I sure hope that future quests don't follow this trend with people waiting hours or several days to find the needed NPC. I enjoy doing quests but too many like this will ruin the fun.

Seen him...
# Nov 05 2001 at 4:19 PM Rating: Decent
Saw the Oaken Knight 3 times yesterday.
He seems to appear every few hours or so, typically there were several people trying to camp this guy all at once. Course the next thing I see is him whacking away merrily on my Ruby Sim. Good luck to all out there!
any sightings recently?
# Nov 05 2001 at 2:56 PM Rating: Default
I've been in several large search parties around the oak men trying to kill the oaken knight over the last week, for a cumulative total of maybe 3 hours personally, with various people in the group hunting substantially longer.

One of the people we're hunting with has killed him thrice before getting the quest. None of us have found him, despite much collective searching.

I'm wondering if the spawn is somehow busted. Has anyone spotted this guy in say the last week. If so, where? On the flats? The cluster up on top of the hill? Near the road? On the far side of the road?

Any info on sightings would be appreciated.

We've tried just looking for him. We've tried slash and burn killing of everything remotely oak like. Neither has worked so far.
Question?
# Nov 03 2001 at 11:59 PM Rating: Default
Does quickness help you run faster or just fight faster?
RE: Question?
# Jan 07 2002 at 10:51 AM Rating: Default
i think it's not for running but for delay in actions such as fighting and casting... though i could be wrong...
Quest worked for me
# Nov 01 2001 at 7:11 PM Rating: Decent
Personally i think the Oak knight spawns at night. I was looking all over with tons of oakmen during the day and no knights, soon as dusk fell i found a knight. Ghost miners are available during the day because i found one in the morning daylight.
Quest is Bugged
# Nov 01 2001 at 12:25 PM Rating: Default
Ok everyone listen up.. I have finished this quest and i am a lvl 16 Mercinary well after finishing this quest i find out that these boots are Plate and i can never wear these.. so basically unless your a plate wearing class don't waist your time on this quest.. i hope they do something to refund me but the GM i spoke to last night said he would notify the quest/bug team and get back to me.. anyways The Oaken Knight spawns with the Oak Men just keep killing and he will spawn eventually.
RE: Quest is Bugged
# Nov 02 2001 at 2:49 PM Rating: Default
I wouldn't call that bugged at all. Find a warrior of some kind and make a trade. I know if I did that quest (as a cleric) some of my guildsmen would love those boots.
spawn spots
# Oct 31 2001 at 7:58 PM Rating: Decent
Found the Oaken Knight at ~loc 60500, 13600 after killing lots and lots of oak men. They have a very large spawning ground but the kinght popped right at my feet. Might have been luck.

It ought to go without saying that being ghost miners they only spawn at night. Being dumb I searched all day for them so it took ages as I had already checked their spawn spot twice at the wrong time ;)
Cant find the Knight
# Oct 31 2001 at 11:48 AM Rating: Default
Lastnight 10-30-01 I was hunting in camp forest....Cayla told me her story and I went
out to kill the Oaken Knight...

If you run norht east from Cayla you will run into a hill that you can make your way around it if you move to the left of it after you hit the zone wall. Just on the other side of this hugh hill is
a valley with many Oaken men...but none of them are Knight...

They conned Yellow to me..and after i soloed a few of them one finally killed me After that
death i decided to log and try again today..

Does this Knight even spawn in this location?

If you read main post you will notice the directions in them to find spawn area. To recap: take road towards salsbury plains (north) as you follow road, at the edge of the forest into plains turn left (west) and not far from road are oak men. It may take a few kills to get oak knight to spawn but he will and he looks exactly like the oak men so you have to target all the oak men you see. This was such an easy quest I am surprised at the trouble people are having.
knight rare...
# Oct 31 2001 at 11:27 AM Rating: Default
Dam hard to find. I hope it will not become as stedous to find mobs as it was in EQ. I hate loosing 2 or 3 gaming days running round... Ill try a bit tonight then leave if i dont finally find this knight.
Bah!
# Oct 29 2001 at 10:55 PM Rating: Decent
I got the quest, and I'm a mercenary (we can only wear chain at the most btw). So there goes all that garbage about non-plate wearing people not being able to get the quest.
Still can't find that damn oaken knight; I've wandered the area he spawns a few times now.
RE: Bah!
# Oct 30 2001 at 9:50 AM Rating: Default
If it was said that you could not get boots if you could not wear them I sure did not say it. As far as the oaken knight he does spawn with the oak men you just have to be in the right place at the right time. My group ran around and killed the oak men (grey to us, 1 or 2 were green) and I just happened to spot the oak knight and we rushed over there and he died fairly easy. You seem to want to gripe for no reason.
quest not working? it does work
# Oct 29 2001 at 12:58 PM Rating: Default
As a paladin I did get the quest even though I was 6 levels below my Plate wearing level (at 14).
I am the quest writer
# Oct 29 2001 at 11:16 AM Rating: Default
I apologise for any misspellings but i wrote this quest to them fairly late. I was 14th at the time and I thought we had a 12th level with us at the time, so that is why they put that limit 11-15. I look back and maybe we all were 14+ (had to be if you are not getting quest at 13th or lower). The gist of the quest and peopel are accurate and it was an easy quest for 3 14th levels and the reward is great(if you can wear plate our mercenary could not and gave away to one of our other guild members who could and our paladin can't wear till 20th). I being an armsman made 15th right after and I was thrilled withg the result.

only for plate wearing classes?
# Oct 28 2001 at 12:13 AM Rating: Default
Maybe this quest will only be given to plate-wearing classes. I am a level 15 cleric, and Calya (spelled right) won't talk to me. Makes sense, since I can only wear chain as a cleric.

Cheers,
Bulge, Highlander cleric.

Yes, Bulge is right - her name is Calya

Paladins can do this quest but can't wear the
boots until level 20 when thay can wear plate.
Oh, well - I'll keep them in bank for now.

The guy in Humberton is named Contyth.

To find the undead miners, go to Swanton Keep,
which is between Snowdonia Station and Snowdonia
Fortress (you can take a horse to the fort and
jump off near keep). To the west, and slightly
south, up on the mountain is where the miners
are.

Then you go to Snowdonia Station to see his father, Mathien.

Oak man or Knight?
# Oct 27 2001 at 4:59 PM Rating: Decent
Is the name of the mob Oak Man or a Oak Knight?
RE: Oak man or Knight?
# Oct 27 2001 at 6:49 PM Rating: Default
It's Oaken Knight. He looks just like an Oak Man though. Con'd blue at lvl 14.
RE: Oak man or Knight?
# Oct 29 2001 at 2:49 PM Rating: Default
Finding the Oak Knight is the hardest part. I ran around the oak men spawns for 2 hours, running into another player who said they have been looking for 2 days. Later I came back ran into another player looking for 2 days. We grouped and he found one after about 1/2 hour, I never did see it.
Quest does work
# Oct 27 2001 at 8:24 AM Rating: Decent
You have to be level 14 before she gives you the quest. I spoke to her when I was 13 and she did not say a peep. Spoke to her when I turned 14 and she ran off at the mouth, heh. She seems to offer this quest to paladins as well at this level, for I've seen several paladins working on this quest at the same time I have been. I'm playing an Armswoman and will not be able to wear these boots until 15, but sound like they are well worth the effort to get them early!
