Tepok's Mine

The savage goblins of the Black Mts. captured this mine from the surrounding townsfolk, and now make a home there. Toughened by the rigors of underground life, these goblins and their allies aggressively defend their territory from invaders.

To find Tepok's, from the bridge NW of Ludlow/ NE from Humberton also known as the Snowdonia Bridge, head west along the road (if on a horse, it will do that automatically) when you get to the SINGLE guard tower before the hill head WEST (ditch the horse if riding). go to the tower between the bridge in S Black Mountains and Snowdonia Station and head straight west. The loc is 5000, 3000, the entrance is in a big boulder; it is at the base of a steep cliff, next to a ruined house. you'll be on top of it before you see it, if you come down the cliff looking for it. If you dont see lots of goblins you have gone wrong somewhere.

Easy to find, but extremely difficult to walk out of.

Entrance is /loc 4971, 2735 Black Mountains South.

Hoaxes?

In my knowledge, Goblin Monitor, Goblin Patrol Leader, Goblin Snatcher and Goblin Whip has yet to be seen in my hours in Tepoks.

I have never heard or seen a Whisper or Wight show up there either.

My Dungeon Trip and Botok's Location
# Aug 25 2002 at 12:22 PM Rating: Decent
Hi!
I've just been there and it was great. Our group had 3 paladins including me and two clerics, levels ranging from 25 to 33. We camped the room before Tepok and after we killed a goblin that came running our way guess who came running own the corridor? Tepok himself! So we stand firm and start wacking him. He only came with one grey con gobbo. After a phew minutes and two insta heals he was slain. Then we braved the whisperer - purple to me at 30, which to my surprise went down quite easily, even though he had that load blue-yellow con lions.
We were searching for Director Botok which i must say we never found! Could anyone please tell me his location?
After that we went down to the beastmaster's rooms. After we had slain a phew orange-red beastmasters, a Whisperer came out of.... i believe the wall... =/ so after we kicked his Heini we got the Pitted Whisperer of Death, a two handed slasher which gives +2 to two hand and +6 to quickness and has a 61 DD proc on it. My friend Pellin got the two hander as i am a sword and shield pally. Which still got me quite pissed as i came hunting for the Pitted Director's Devastator - +2 slash +6 strength and a 61 DD heat proc with 11.6 dps and 3 spd.
Never the less we still got a Hob hunter ring, some Goblin ring of Resistance, A Goblins staff of Wind Magic and some studded helm.

My summary of the dungeon is this:
- Great Cash
- Some nice items
- Great for groups

PS

Could someone please, please, please tell me the location or Bartok, thank you. <bows>

Tepok vs Keltoi
# Aug 14 2002 at 2:40 PM Rating: Default
I've brought 2 chars up through the usual Mithra,Plains, and Keltoi route. Now I like Keltoi but I always come back to Tepok's. Some items dropped in the large room past the baby cave fishers and bears that I haven't seen listed are: Goblin Forged Chain of Strength. Hobhunter Cloak. A very nice small shield, sorry forget the name offhand. Goblin Miners Flute. My Armsman is lvl 22 now, I'll stay in Tepok's until I hit lvl 24 then it's back to BG.

Fisher Hatchlings are Lev 15 - 17, with a very rare 18...drops are hatchlings leg tips (sell for 21s a piece) and hatchlings caparaces (sell for 45s a piece)

Cave bear cubs are lev 16 - 18, with a very rare 19...drops so far are only cub pelts (sell for 40s)

Stalkers are lev 18 - 21, no drops so far...

Goblin Watchers are lev 20 - 23, no drops so far...

Continuing notes...

Goblin watchers definitely cap at 23...drops so far have been mostly trash (non-stackable stuff that sells for 20-30 silver tops) Couple of fire-forged chain drops, a goblin reaver and a hob belt in about 2 hours of pulling solo.

Goblin crawlers range from 23-25, I think. Same drops as watchers.

Goblin apprentice looks like he's locked at lev 25. Drops have been nothing outstanding so far.

Update on the entrance to Tepok's.

In the first Goblin room (watchers/crawlers/apprentice), if you pull a goblin from the room and another goblin is present, the pulled goblin will BAF (one of the other goblins). If pulling solo, the entire room is non-BAF, except the dwarf youth that wanders in from time to time. DO NOT EVER attack the youth unless you can handle the adds that will show up about 30 seconds later (both purple to a 25). When pulling in a group though, at least 75% of the time and small or large chest will drop in place of an actual loot drop. A group of 3 of us (24 armsman, 23 friar (me), 21 merc) constantly swept the room, making a 3/4 of a level for each of us and about 4 gold each in about 40 minutes, and we still have to go sell off stuff.

Overall, the loot quality in Tepok's is generally superior to Keltoi's, so far. The fire-forged chain supports chain melees better than duskwalker (almost evry piece is +str and/or +dex with all of them having a resist boost and the much cooler red chain look). Base melee weapons start with 8.1 dps and go up from there, as do the ranged weapons (pulled 5 weapons so far, all are 8.1 dps with one 8.4 dps). Armor starts at lev 21 and progresses from there (the only shield pulled was yellow to a 23, +2 shield +4 con).

Just got done trying to Solo the Director Botok....Coned Yellow to my 35 Merc. He wonders around the hole place mainly down below though. He usually doesnt travel alone. Has at least one Goblin with him. Needless to say I died he lived. Got him down to about a little under 1/4 health though...probly try my luck with him again next lvl.
RE: Botok

I just spent a few hours in Tepoks tonight. my group was me <35 Friar> a 35 Paladin and a 37 Infil. we camped for a good time in the room before Tepok and killed him about 7 times. every 3rd time he conned red to me at 35, so he was about level 41 or 42.

Dont let that fool you though. He is no pushover. I can solo oranges with my friar now, but when he conned red to us at lvl 35 there were the 3 of us hacking away at him with the pally tanking. Twice I had to stop fighting to reheal the Pally. Overseer Tepok has to have at least 2500 hit points when he cons lvl 42, and he hits Like a freight train. Also, every fight but one he would call a Savant <Goblin Whip> that conned yellow at 35 and the Savants Pet, a Juggernaut also yellow. Now, you will have Tepok, 2 yellows and a few green/grey goblins hitting your lvl 35's before you know it. Ton of Fun.

The Dwarfs come from the room to the left of the Goblin Imperators. We killed the two named dwarfs Sabien that conned yellow to 35. one dropped a 2 handed Thrust polearm the other a 2 handed Crush hammer. Both had a DD Proc spell on them. There is also a 2 handed Sword that Whisperer Drops that has a Direct Damage Spell on it. All con yellow at lvl 35. The lowest level weopons I have seen with DD Proc on them.

The Goblin Imperator dropped a lvl 30 ring (+3 Piety, Int, Con and Dex) called the Hob hunters ring.

So just a word of advice to groups in their 20's or low 30's, if you see Tepok coming, I would head for cover. Just as the Merc said about not being able to solo Betok who conned yellow to him, I dont see as how anyone could solo Tepok without him being blue <which means a level 45+ character> Also, all Tepok would drop at those crappy Overseers robes..... He did drop them everytime though, and they sold for 1.5 gold. BTW, with the three of us down there, I made about 20 Gold in about an hour and a half, and only had to sell about 7 gems. It is so nice not having to go Crap Hunting and pick up 7 or 8 items of Crap from each kill like Mitra or Keltoi.

The only place I have played that rivals that kind of money is Darkness Falls, but then you usually get Ganked by Mids or something down there.

If you ever get bored of Killin Pygmies, it is fun to check this place out.

Cabalists can solo him while he's yellow, but it's not worth it. Better off just farming the lesser foes if you're in here, unless you're questing and you get a high con Tepok.

As a note, while the dwarves do drop proccing weapons, they are 80% quality (or were for me). Seem to drop them every time, but I don't think the proc makes up for the loss of quality.
Hunting at 19-22
# May 08 2002 at 7:43 AM Rating: Default
Having tried Keltoi, which everyone recommends, I have to say that Tepok's gave me a far better time. Sure, it's got tougher creatures in it, and if you get out of your depth for one moment you'll pay for it with your life, but the cash and experience for a group of up to 8 (3x tank, 1x wizard, 1x minstrel, 1x cleric + any extras) all between about 19 and 22 will be levelling all over the place in the area around the miners/fishers. Gobbo's wander up from the lower levels, and can be pulled from the first room, ranging from yellow to purple cons in the case of some of the fishers. A word of warning though; I don't know if anyone else has spotted this but a Dwarf Youth was roaming roughly every 20 minutes, and if aggro'd or (god forbid) killed, a lot of high level aggro's come up from the depths for revenge. Just don't touch him.

Additional question - any idea what level Director Botok cons at? he was purple to me last time I saw him when I was lvl 20, and the others in the group seemed to have conflicting opinions.

# May 08 2002 at 2:59 PM Rating: Default
Overseer Tepok is yellow at 40, while Botok, Savant, Moryal, and the other named are all blue at 40. However, they are tougher than their con would indicate. Tepok himself has more health than a lesser telamon, though he doesn't hit as hard. Add in the aggro friends they bring in, and it is chancy to try them solo.

A 43 infiltrator in good equipment can pull off a perfect PA-CD chain and still not manage to bring Tepok down below 30%. And with the change to regen, he's even tougher now.
Spawns
# May 03 2002 at 12:14 PM Rating: Default
Tepok's can be great fun, and is high in both the risk and reward categories. Wandering aggro Named (Savant, Botok), huge BAF ranges on named mobs (Tepok, Moryal), and similar nonsense can make this zone dangerous into the mid-40s, particularly since many of the named are -much- tougher than they con. Tepok himself has perhaps twice the health of a Lesser Telamon, though thankfully, he doesn't hit as hard.

Lots of interesting drops, but the named are not actually worth the effort and risk. Tepok himself seems to primarily drop tattered Overseer Robe (AF 35 and bonuses, but 70% Qua) while Moryal drops a worn Crush weapon (11.4 DPS and a proc, but again, 70% Qua).

Entrance is usually safe (barring, as mentioned, absurd pulls from deep within) for high teens to mid 20's, while the middle area is safe (barring the above) for low to high 20's. Past 30, you can likely solo a large portion of the dungeon.

Best idea I can think of for this dungeon is for guild raids. There is something for everyone from 15 to 40, lots of different areas, and the fact higher level characters are hunting deeper within makes hunting the entrance safer for younger ones. If you're looking for a nice, uncrowded zone to encourage guild unity, this or the Barfog are your best bets. And this has much better loot.
Watch Out For Dwarfies :)
# Mar 26 2002 at 10:10 AM Rating: Default
Red Dwarves in this zone have an insane BAF aggro range. Gobbos seem to be easier to single pull. I have no idea where all those damn Dwarfies came from, though :)

So be careful, they hit like express trains.

You are right about all the fighting and "kill stealing" that goes on in Keltoi. It would be nice not to have it itemized so that you could have a nice clean fight w/o all the bickering going on. Still, it would be nice to have a map of it. :)

most ppl say mobs range is from 16-24

its more liek 20-40

the boss cons yellow at lvl 38 (or so i hear)
and the big room in the pit has lvl 30 mobs on it
RE: lvl range
# Mar 24 2002 at 4:11 AM Rating: Default
Mobs range is 18 to 38 or 39. I did not know this until tonight..I had some friends get nailed in deep. I bring my Paladin lvl 41 in to rez them and I had come across plenty of green and blue cons there..The whips coned blue mostly..and the regular goblins coned green. Very easy at that lvl to handle, but I could only imagine how hard it would be for a full group of low 30s to have an easy time there. Yes the agro range is ungodly there. You could pull a mob and from the next room over they will come running to help out their friends..so anyone new to the game be very careful..make sure you have a few clerics, someone to mez the masses, and have some great tanks to take them out. Money is good there and is now itemized, but only the goblins I think drop any armor and maybe weapons. Its been a long time since I last ventured there to do any major fighting.
Mobs
# Feb 06 2002 at 5:14 PM Rating: Default
I'm a level 21 minstrel and these are mobs I saw and thier cons to me.
Bears and baby fishers -- blue/green/some grey
Goblin Watchers -- yellow
Goblin ???????? -- orange/red
Adult fishers -- some orange/red/some purple
Stalkers -- blue/yellow
Undead miners -- yellow

we camped in the undead miner room (since they are neutral) and pulled adult fishers from a nearby hall. Money is good, exp is decent, but dungeon is a little boring. Saw the Directer get trained to the front. Was chasing a lv 40 who didn't make it...so there are some higher mobs here as well.

Wow! No one comes here, at least no one posts. Well, if any one happens to come by and read this, I have a little information for you. I went into this dungeon with a group of my friends. We had a level 17 armsman, an 18 cleric, a 17 theurgist, a 14... whatever the rogue guy is called, and me a lvl 17 friar. This is a fairly well rounded group. Most information I see says you can go to this dungeon at 15. Not True! Unless you want to go there to die! Ok, we could beat the cave bear cubs, and whatever those little scorpion-looking things are, but I'm guessing 15s would have a lot of trouble with these. Just because there are so many and so close together. They weren't easy, even though they all conned yellow or blue. Any way, we tried to fight the goblins in the next room. They were red and purple to us. If we could single pull them we could do fine. Unfortunately, single pulling here is damn near impossible! The 2 or 3 times we went here, the dungeon was almost empty (I'm guessing because it's not itemized, but pretty good cash drops). So, there is almost no one there to help you, res you, etc. (fortunately I only died once, so I could res people usually). Just wanted to warn you all. I would suggest not going there without a party of at least 5 18-19th level players.
RE: Blah
# Apr 09 2002 at 11:26 AM Rating: Default
I'd hardly call that a well rounded group. 1 tank 1 "soso mage that's more effective with blade turn and earth buff in a bigger group" 1 leech and 2 "healers". I don't kow what the spec for the theugist is, but even with full ice, you'd still have a tough time. Lose the rogue and add 2 tanks and a minstrel and you'll have a much more powerful group.

I had a similar group yesterday. me tank. 1 wiz 2 clerics. No good. Got a new group later. 5 tanks 1 theurgist 1 cleric 1 friar. Awesome. especially when I was a "leech"
Good Camp Spot
# Nov 27 2001 at 8:27 AM Rating: Default
First off, to find the place, go to the tower between the bridge in S Black Mountains and Snowdonia Station and head straight west. The loc is 5000, 3000, the entrance is in a big boulder.

When you enter, there is a nice safe room to get together, but right after that is where a bunch of cave fisher hatchlings and cave bear cubs spawn. They are pretty easy to a level 20ish, but they tend to swarm, so be careful.

Past the hatchlings is a nice big area where pre-20s can camp and pull roaming goblin watchers and stalkers. Getting goblins solo isn't too hard, and multiples isn't necessarily a bad thing either, since they die pretty easily.

Off the floor is two sets of steps that takes you to the mine entrance. Directly inside the mine and to your left is where a bunch of adult cave fishers spawn. Their level ranges are about 23-27, and give great exp for their level. Plus, they are very easy to kill.

To the right of the entrance is where the tunnel forks, to the left is a spawn point for a bunch of undead miners, who are about level 23-25 and are not aggressive. In fact, this is a good place to camp, since camping near the entrance to the tunnel leaves you vulnerable to trains from deeper down, and if you are camping the mine entrance, you don't want anything coming from that train.

To the right of the fork the path will lead down into some much tougher stuff. Regular goblins are level 25-29 and are good for the 20+ crew, but past those is where the goblin whip spawns. I am level 25 and the goblin whip is purple and will wipe out a group of 8 (and has). Best advice is not to go down there.

The coin only loot is awesome, from the 3 days I spent down there, I made almost 70gp (went in with 71gp, came out with 139). Not to mention I left with a totally empty backpack and didn't have to sell little trinkets.
