Description:
The ability to make weapons

Per patch 1.87:
- Characters can now skill up completely in any tradeskill. The system of primary and secondary tradeskills (where secondary tradeskills were capped according to the current skill amount the primary tradeskill) has been removed.

- Tradeskills no longer have class restrictions. A character can choose any tradeskill.

- Characters can now have multiple tradeskills. To pick up a tradeskill a character does not have, speak to the tradeskill trainer. Please note that there is no limit to the amount of tradeskills a character can have. Your character can now choose and skill up in all of them.

If a level 15 Armsman comes up to me and asks for a slashing polearm that is yellow to them, how do I determine the level of the weapon to craft?

Is the following correct: If 1000 is max skill and 50 is max character level then if I make a yellow recipe and I am weaponcraft skill 100 the resulting weapon would be yellow to a level 5. To make a level 15 polearm I would need to choose a yellow recipe at the 300 skill level.

Crafting: From Dancer on Gaheris server April 2, 2003

Level of weapon = (DPS-1.2)/0.3

There are ten tiers of material quality in all crafts. Five levels per tier. Twenty craft skill points per level is good estimate.

Most people want orange weapons. Damage to weapons because of character level occurs at red and above.

Making things that are gray to you as a crafter insures high quality. This is a skill of 50 beyond the item crafted.

To gain good skill, craft orange items to within 5 of your craft skill level. Then change.

You lose less material if you craft yellow verses orange.

3) Find a yellow recipe. And distribute recipes for item and components to hot bar.

5) Go to the vendors near a forge and buy enough raw materials to make 30 items. Be sure to hold down the shift key when buying to stack up to 100 items before buying. Keep shift down while pressing arrow to count up by 10's.
6) Make 10 of each component by pressing component hot bar slot number over and over.
7) Make 10 to the item by pressing item hot bar slot 2 over and over.
8) Sell items to vendor and repeat steps 6,7, and 8 until all gone.
9) Clear item and component hot bar slots (shift-left button).

dont forget you can also salvage most of the stuff you can make so you can reuse salvaged stuff in making items.

weapons: yield metal bars (bronze alloy)
bows/instruments: yield wood

You dont to sell it to the vendors what you have made because what you have from salvage will give more money then selling it to vendors . Salvage will yield a net bonus. Also when you find stuff in pve salvage this loot (expet neckies, rings, bracers) to pay for your crafting. crafting can get pretty expensive until 15-20 plat.
so salvage is a must later

Best way to do this is make the following macro:

/macro task /whisper task

All you need to do then, is target your trade skill master, click your "task" button, and you will receive a consignment. The nice thing about this macro, is that it's a whisper, so you don't spam other folks' chat with "task", "task", "task", ad nauseum.

the only way i know of to make a weapon for merchants is to do consignment tasks. These will be handed out by your order master ( the weaponsmith master in jordheim). You must go to her target her and then in main chat type "help". she will then give you an order for one of the Jordheim merchants, and you will have a time linit to finish the task. Remember you can ask the sentries for direction by typing "/where <name>". Hope this helps good luck.

You simply right-click the icon of the weapon you want to craft.
So, you open weaponcrafting you right click on the short sword, and you see that it needs short sword blade and short sword hilt. You go to metalworking and you right click on short sword blade and you see that it needs this many metal bars and... oh you get the point :-)

I love those little round rowan wood bastards.

I'm tinking aroudn with one of my characters, and hit a weaponsmithing of like 85-95 or so. I start making the rowan round shield.

Not only do the only take like 6 componnents TOTAL to make, they work the skill great, AND sell back to vendors at a slight PROFIT. (BTW... i mean VERY slight. Like in making 40 i gained maybe 60 copper).

Now i'm at 115 at i finnaly have to stop, but i was basically able to powersmith from 90 to 115 while making a profit.

First I do not post this to flame the original author, only to help any of those who may take his mis-information to heart and end up angry in the end.

I am not sure where you get your information friend, but you must have had some raw materials purchased ahead of time in order to turn any profit.

If I make 40 rowan wooden shields, and sell them to an npc vendor. They will pay 1/2 vendor cost of 50cp (25cp). So, if I make and sell 100 of the shields, I make 2,500cp.

In order to make one shield, I require 3 bronze bars and 2 rowan boards. To make 100 would require 300 bars and 200 boards. I purchase both in lots of 20 at 175cp and 75cp (respectively).

The cost in raw materials is (300/20) x 175 = 2,625cp for the bars and (200/20) x 75 = 750cp. My total raw materials cost is then 2,625 + 750 = 3,375cp. I have in fact LOST 875cp.

The other way to look at it is this: It costs 33.75cp to craft one rowan round shield, and it sells to npc vendor for 25cp. You can make and sell them all day long and you will not turn a profit. You will only turn a profit on consignments or player purchases (if your pricing is right :-).

A friend of mine swore that the only way to go is to always do consignments... and never just sell to merchants. So, I did just that. My wrist hurts now, I've been doing it quite a while, and I'm only up to 235, BUT I've just hit steel, and the consignment profit is really good.
One strange thing that happened is that my leatherworking somehow fell behind... (My master kept giving me more axes, hammers, and spears, and not enough swords), so its currently at 70! Well, I haven't been asked to make a dagger or sword in a long time since I'm apparently not capable of doing so.
Someone said I should powerskill my leatherworking. Why? My Warrior uses an axe and that's what I'm making. Am I really going to miss out on anything (except the occasional player asking for a sword)? In fact, it might even be saving me time and money that I can be putting into consignments since I don't have to worry about leather.
Any thoughts?

i had the same pb , but i m in a guild and my fellows needed swords so i had to powerskill my leathercraft.
i spent 2 hours , raising it from 28 to 220 , with a few cost (that relative of course).
crafting hilts for blades only require 1 or 2 metal bar, 1 square of leather and 1 wood so its very cheap to train.
i would say less than 2 gold to reach your weaponskill level in leather, but need of patience :)
good luck then :)

to save gold, you need to use the /salvage command.. not many people know about it, but it saves about 75% of the cost of weaponcrafting. all you do, is drop the weapon you crafted on the ground and target it, then type /salvage and let the magic begin..

What if you clicked on the wrong trade Master and want to change your trade. Can it be done?

The book says you cannot change a trade skill once you choose it. If someone has figured out a way around that, I'd like to know?

Ok, there seems to be some confusion on how Trade skills work...

First, find a trade skill master that you want. Keep in mind certain classes are limited to which ones they can join. A general rule is you can trade skill in items that you can use. Casters can only tailor, as they can't use much weapons or armor. Scout-type classes can fletch, make weapons, and tailor. Fighters can do just about anything. However, this only affects your primary trade skill.

Once you talk to the master, you will join the Trade guild associated with it. This will be your primary tradeskill. You can train in other tradeskills, but they cannot be higher than your primary! So if your primary tradeskill is a level 1, you can make other things all day and they will not increase. The "secondary" trade skills (Metalworking, Woodworking, Clothworking, etc) do not have masters, and usually increase when you are working on skills that incorprate them. For example, if I am a weaponsmith and need to make a weapon, it would require a metal weapon head, and say a wooden shaft. You can make the weapon head, and then the shaft. Then when you make the weapon, chances are good that your weaponsmithing, metalworking and woodcrafting all go up. Same goes for bows (fletching and clothworking) and robes (Tailoring, clothworking).

Sometimes you will need a certain level of a secondary tradeskill in order to make an item. It will tell you when you try to make it that the skill is insufficient. To increase these, make trinkets. These include hinges and brackets for metalworking, dolls and puppets for clothworking, and riding crops and the like for leatherworking. Note: its risky making weapon hilts to increase leatherworking skill, as they do not sell back to vendors for a price. Trinkets will.

This makes sense, as some arrows require metal bars, some tailoring items require pieces of leather, etc. So it may be that one of these will lag behind if you make items that don't require them, but thats ok, you can increase it later.

Consignments are a great way to break even or make a profit using tradeskills. Go to your Tradeskill guild master and /whisper task or help. I say /whisper, so noone around you goes nuts from all the people standing around like zombies chanting "Task" like its some evil cult ;)

He or she will give you a task to make an item applicable for your current level, and go deliver the item to someone. That person will then give you money for your troubles. Right now these tasks count for your max per level, but that is about to change soon (changed now on test server).

The only problem with Consignmets is that they are very tedious. Skilling goes up slow, as you spend most of your time running around trying to find the person to give the finished product. But, it will save you money, even make money, in the long run.

And definitley the best way to make a profit, and help your fellow realm-mates, is to sell to players. Shoot for somewhere above cost (obviously) but below standard merchant prices, probably somewhere in the middle. The players get a cheaper, and better-made weapon, than from vendors. If you are really nice, you can sell for cost, but I see this only among guildmates or close friends. But if someone is short on cash, I wouldn't mind selling it cheap. Heck, at least they help recoup costs.

Whew. There yall go, hope I answered most questions. If you want, check out this tradeskill site: www.cannotlinktokills.com
I am sure there are more out there, this is just the first I ran into.

Good luck and happy skilling!

well put and well said. another handy tip is to stick with yellow weapons. it raises your skill best. when you start out, your first piece is orange. keep making that until you get more options. constantly check the other pieces for there color. color determines how hard it is for you to make. stay away from orange. it has a higher failure rate. yellows are best. blues dont raise your skill as fast, but are good. i went from beginner to 300 skill in 4 hours. it's real easy since all your materials are located right by the forge. i really didn't do consignments, but they do pay great now.
and dont forget your woodworking for those hammers. i didn't realise you needed woodworking for the shafts till i tried to make one. thank god for trinkets!

In reference to the woodworking comment above, I too found this disappointing fact out. What I did was make arrows. If you have fletching, it is a great way to raise woodworking if you don't want to make bows or waste a bunch of cash making misc wood items. Arrows are in demand after all.

Could Some one tell me which is better. Selling the weapons you make back to vendor or Salvaging. I do not have the most coin, so i need to go the cheapest route possible. Thank you.

Depending on your class, you might not be able to choose from all 4. I play shadowblade and thay can't spec in Armor making. You will have to choose a Diff trade skill to spec.

As a Shadowblade you cannot spec in armorcraft...you can spec in Fletching, Tailoring, or Weaponcraft. As a Shaman all I can spec in is armorcraft. But you certainly aren't limited in just those trades. You can do pretty much any trade but you can't specialize in any of them except your primary. They can only get up to 75% of your primary skill.
