The ability to make cloth, leather, and studded armour.

Great post copied for valuable info:
Tailoring is the skill of joining pieces of materials together, usually with some form of binding like thread, wool etc, to create items of clothing... :p

OK, first off I'm assuming you have found a master and you have signed up to tailoring, and have purchased a sewing kit from one of the other merchants in the same area.

Next on your control bar open up the Abilities Panel (the open hand button) and you should see some new icons, if not scroll down a bit. Now pick an empty quickbar (I tend to use number8) and drag to there the icon for tailoring. If you now select this icon a window will open showing all of the POTENTIAL things you can make... lol... notice I say potential, the items Con. like all the other things in DAoC.

Next open up Brae Gloves and drag the icon to your quickbar. If you right click on this icon you will see what you need to be able to make that item (it's recipe). So go off to the nearby merchants and buy some stuff. Then find a nice quiet spot to stand or sit down (because being a tailor you DONT have to stand in front of the forge or the lathe) and press the glove icon on your quickbar.

Three things can happen from this;

1. You will make the item and will recieve points in the appropriate skills. Congratulations!! you just made your first item...

2. You will fail to make the item and will not lose any items. nm, try again.

3. You will fail to make the item and lose some materials, because you did such a poor job of it. nm, just check to see if you still have plenty of material left to continue, and try again.

And that's the basics... You can ask your tailor master for tasks /whisper task, and he will tell you what to make and who wants it, this way you actually make a little (a very little in the early days) money, otherwise if you sell your item to the merchants you will ALWAYS make a loss, but sometimes this has to be done.

Per patch 1.87:
- Characters can now skill up completely in any tradeskill. The system of primary and secondary tradeskills (where secondary tradeskills were capped according to the current skill amount the primary tradeskill) has been removed.

- Tradeskills no longer have class restrictions. A character can choose any tradeskill.

- Characters can now have multiple tradeskills. To pick up a tradeskill a character does not have, speak to the tradeskill trainer. Please note that there is no limit to the amount of tradeskills a character can have. Your character can now choose and skill up in all of them.

Saladin needs to learn remedial math

Saladin, isn' that kind of like the pot calling the kettle black? It seems YOU are the idiot around here.

Dolls are considered trinkets, and you absolutley cannot ever ever ever make a profit on them, or any other non-consignment item sold to an NPC, dumbass. Check your math again before you go calling people names.

3rd tier dolls in Midgard - Brocaded
2 Brocaded cloth
1 Brocaded thread

2 Brocaded cloth cost 3.2s
1 Brocaded thread cost 2.88s

Total cost to make Brocaded cloth doll - 6.08s, or 608 copper. Sells back to merchant for 464 copper. Even if you could sell it back for 550 copper, you are still losing money. If one could make profits selling trinkets and regular crafted items to vendors, the economy would be broken, but no, it was so tightly engineered, it fools people like you who have a big fat mouth.

- Your friendly neighborhood 550+ skill tailor.

Tradeskills

Ok some questions are still lingering out there. I have to admit tailoring in Camelot is WAY different than in EQ. The skills, how you get them, and how you make items. I am just starting, but here are some basics for everyone.

1) Tradeskills are class dependant, for example a Mentalist can only master in Tailoring, BUT you can still use other tradeskills, with a limitation. some skills can only be 75% of what you have as your mastercraft, and others are 40%.

2) Some classes can choose what skill they want to master such as Hero, which can choose between mastering in Weponcraft or Armorcraft.

3) You are not limited to only making what your official class is, but you have to raise your skill in your official skill before you can raise your skill in the others.

4) As always you never will get your money back from NPC's, the game is designed that way. The tasks that you can do for consignment are the best way to raise your skill fast without loosing money. Outside of that you need to sell to PC's. The going rate for crafted items, are the material cost, plus 10 - 20%, which is very fair. You will find that armor crafters need items only master crafters can make, just as there are some pieces a weaponcrafter would need to buy from a master armorcrafter.

5) All this trading and selling is what makes the trade skills really worth the time. You help someone by making items they need for something they are making, and you make a small profit on the side. What do you do with that money, buy items from other PC's that make items you can use. It works in a circle.

6) Finally check out the official FAQ on tradeskills, that is availiable on the official website, http://www.darkageofcamelot.com

http://cso.daoc.net/guides/tradeskill/

Thanks and best luck and wishes to everyone out there in Camelot.

In tailoring ask your guild leader for a "Task" and he will tell you of someone in the vicinity that needs a certain piece of armor. Go buy the stuf for the piece, ask the sentries and find the customer and make them the piece. Just hand it to them and they will give you copper for it. I have never lost money on this way and you can get your tailoring up very high without spending your money or losing money. It is very helpful after you get to skill 200 because linen and tanned leather cost too much to buy and lose money on.

Hope it helps,

Just FYI, I'm a Avalonian Theurgist in Albion. In camelot, there's a guy to train with, his name is Arliss something, and he trained me in the basics of tailoring. From what I understand, you MUST start with one specific trainer. Once I got the skill, however, I haven't had to return to him. I've heard that you can only make stuff that you can use, but I still got more skills than I can use (weaponsmithing, siegecraft). Anyone have a clue as to what classess get what trade skills or where to start?

According to what I have read, NO, you cannot make a profit selling to NPCs, only to PCs, regardless of your skill level.

only a few hibernian classes can make tailored items.

I just noticed that my bard is doing the only tradeskill that was open to him ARMORCRAFTING. Why leather ARMOR isnt in the list of produceable items is kind of a mystery to me - since my bard cant wear reinforced armor. Common sense tells me that leather ARMOR should be produceable through the ARMORCRAFTING tradeskill.

Oh well, word to any enterprising bards out there - dont bother with tradeskills - you cant make anything worthwile - unless you want to hock armor you cant use.

Can someone tell me if you can ever make a profit sell to NPCs? I have a 115 tailor skill and everything I make cost more in materials then NPCs will buy for. Will I ever make a profit or am I supposed to only sell to PCs?
making leather items...

at what skill level can i start making tailored items?

I raised armocrafting to 100 today and leatherwork and clothwork are not very far behind. Yet even if I wanted to attempt making cured armor (for instance) the only items available in the leatherwork menu are sword hilts and other non-armor items.

Im kind of perplexed that the items I want to make arent even listed.

Does my skill need to be considerably higher so that the trainer will actually give me the recepies? Or is there another trainer I need to speak to to get tailoring recepies - since the original guy was just "armorcrafter" maybe theres someone else?

any help would be much appreciated!

try looking under basic tailoring skill, instead of armorcraft specifically.

A short guide
# Oct 13 2001 at 9:30 PM Rating: Default
So far my skill in tailoring is about 120. Clothwork isabout 105, and leather is about 80.

I started out making woolen cloth helms (make a hotkey to TAILORING and choose from that list!). At skill 15 in tailoring, I moved on to the next. I did that until skill 95. Then the master upgraded my status. I continued making stuff that was orange. Now I am selling stuff (mostly roman leather, which is a great profit). I charge 95% of what a merchant charges (if they charge 100 copper, I charge 95 copper). That way, the ppl will buy it from me no matter what. It's a good marketing strategy.

Anyways, there is my "guide".
Trade skills
# Oct 13 2001 at 4:43 AM Rating: Decent
First you need to find out what skills you can use for your class/race combo. Then you train with a Master. For example Druids can train in Armorsmithing. You then get one pt put into various related skills.

To increase your tailoring skill you will need to raise your Armor craft skill first. Like you I trained I tried raising my skill in tailoring before I learned I had to raise it in Armor craft first. After reaching 100 in Armor craft I have now started to work on tailoring. And get increases at a random pace.

The key is knowing which class/race combo can do what type of crafting. I do not have a list so can't tell you. However I do know Wardens and Druids can do Armor craft. Talk to each of the masters and see which ones talk back to you. Then you can choose which crafts you will train in and get started. The trade skills are fun! And results are even better.

Without giving too much info. .....Albion info.
There is a trainer in N. Camelot, you see him and right click. Then you need to look at your skills list, hot key your skill, click on it and it will give you a list of things you can and will be making. You ask this trainer for a task if you don't already have one, and he will tell you to make one of your intial items. Your item seller is right above him. You then purchase the things you need, hot key the icon for the item, click on it and you either succeed or fail. Really simple and quick actually, I am having a lot of fun with it.
How do you raise Skill

I am trying to raise my Tailoring skill.
I have made a couple hundred Dolls and my skill is still at 1.
I tried to make a puppet at my low skill and after about 55 tries I made one and still no skill increase. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dolls and puppets are clothworking, NOT tailoring. You can't raise any skill until you raise your primary skill first (so if your primary is armorcraft, you can't raise tailoring until you've practiced armorcraft, and your tailoring can't go above 75% of your armorcraft skill (since they're both primary skills).
So, for example, if your Armorcraft is at 100 you can get tailoring to 75, and clothworking to 100 (because clothworking is not a primary skill))
