# Feb 03 2005 at 11:36 PM Rating: Decent
I have a Kobold I plan to make a Savage. Savages fight with hand to hand weapons. Can they parry when using hand to hand? I did not want to spend points on it if I could not use it. Thanks!

Alright... For champions Parry is a SECONDARY SKILL... focus your skill points in large weapondry and valor... parry is nice although not nearly as vital as LW or VALOR

parry is very good as a secondary skill. However, I find the best way to prevent the enemy from hitting you is still to kill them fast.

2 handed weapons dobbels your chance of parry !
parry
# Jul 02 2002 at 5:38 PM Rating: Default
well you also have ot figure this.. think of it in dice terms. you have a 20% chance to parry. so you roll the dice. the dice can be nice to you alot and parry everything or you can miss it alot.

on another note i have seen on other post boards that if u use a large weapon it doubles the parry rate true or no??

parry
# Jun 22 2002 at 5:24 AM Rating: Default
parry is based on dex.

i have lvl 48 kobold warior and i can solo high reds w/o problem cuz of SUPER high dex, 44 shield 44 parry, 3 master parry , 3 master shield. reds are good targets for me , yellows are way to easy because they usualy land 1 hit on me through the entire battle. in rvr iv taken on 3 heros at once ant won.

if you have not trying it already i sugest you create one and find out for your self

Parry is the ability to block with your weapon. Base chance to block is 5% and then you get an extra half of a percent for every point you spend in this line.

Randomness
# May 30 2002 at 7:55 PM Rating: Default
For all you people who do the math and calculate the probability for parry to work along with block for shields. Along with all the formulas which check stats and skills against each other and such, there is something that every programmer knows.. It's that the Random Function is based off time. So if you want to do the math you might as well add time into the formula ;)
RE: Randomness
# May 14 2003 at 11:47 AM Rating: Default
time has nothing to see here since if you can't predict the result, it's still random to your eyes :p

besides, time is used in milliseconds. I wish you good luck to try to include time in your formulas :p

My parry exp.
# May 14 2002 at 2:38 PM Rating: Default
I'm play a merc. and when I first was able to train parry at level 17, I had saved up points for it. I raised it immediately to Parry 7.

Then I went hunting in Salisbury Plains. I started parrying all colors of creatures like mad! I was taken back. After about 10 minutes I started counting them. Within one hour's time of game play (not conitnual combat -- but close) I stopped counting at 60 parries. That averages to a parry every minute! In some battles I would parry orange mobs four times in a row. Mind you, this was at parry level 7.

So of course I pumped up my parry as high as I could on my next level. While I didn't seem to parry as much on higher mobs as I did in the Plains, I was still completely satisfied with the results. Currently I am at Season 27 with a parry score of 20. I can solo oranges since I parry about 1/3 of their attacks each combat. Blues and yellows are a joke for me as I hardly ever lose any health due to the amount of parries I do.

Parry does not seem to be as effective in RvR and a few have told me the rumor that Mythic screwed parry skill up in that it doesn't activate against combat style special moves. Can anyone confirm this?

In any event, I plan on raising my parry skill even more and will probably put some Realm Skill points in it as well. Parry is pretty much the only defense a merc. gets since they dual weild (no shield) and only get the paltry Evade I. I suggest that all mercs. invest heavily in parry if they wish to play more on the defensive side of things. You'll still dish out tons of damage!

Yes it is true that parry is nerfed in rvr. You can't parry against combat styles used by realm invaders.

Yes, You are stupid. j/k Also it is all a roll of the dice. Question is, how many sides on your die? All you can do is increase you chance of getting a good roll.

combo moves
# Apr 24 2002 at 7:08 PM Rating: Default
Hi, i am a lvl 12 merc specing dw and slash. I probably have a really stupid question but i will ask anyways. How do i do combination moves? I have cross slash and bloodletter but i dont know how to use them correctly. One never follows the other. I also have twin cutter and orbitz but i still dont know how to combo them.

Combo styles have to be iniated manually. The best way is to make sure that you have them together on your quick bar. For example cross slash button 3, bloodletter button 4.

Initiate your first style, in this case button 3 and then when you hit with that style press button 4 and you should hit with the second.

All combo styles (I think), work in this way. They don't automatically jump in, and you have to wait until the first one hits.

Hope this helps.... :)

way to complex
# Apr 17 2002 at 11:58 PM Rating: Default
ok you all seem to have missed one point

the whole thing changes "IF" you are getting hit by more than 1 thing at the same time

also way back in beta 2 one of the devs said that your dex was in the formula

so you dont have the total formula

and it is not a strait % to miss it takes in to account the skill of the attacker and his dex too

also when your health drops it lowers your skills effect too

and they clearly said the closer to your lvl a skill gets the better it works and the lower the other guys skill the better it works

every time some one swings at you there are at least 6 formulas interacting with over 12 variables to decide if it hit and what damage it does if it did and even when you block perry mob#1 it will make mob #2 and #3 have a better shot at it

so none of the math on this page is even close
Parry
# Apr 05 2002 at 12:06 AM Rating: Decent
I'm a LVL 16 Pally. I use parry alot on Oranges and Reds and purps too. Points are 15 in Two-Handed, 14+3 in chants, and 7 in parry. By lvl 50 i should be all good i hope lol. is this the right path for a two-Hander?
math is not that easy
# Apr 03 2002 at 10:27 AM Rating: Good
i know its a bit late but i read thru the posts and found a troll trying himself in maths. he assumed the following 'formulas'
Parry only--
Skills: Axe(50)
Parry(49)

Chance to Parry: 49 * .5 + 5 = 29.5%

Total defensive ability: 29.5%

--Shield Only--
This will give you the same 30% defensive ability as above, taking into account only blocking and not the effects of the Shield Styles.

--Shield + Parry--
Skills: Axe(50)
Parry(35)
Shield(35)

Chance to Parry: 35 * .5 + 5 = 22.5%
Chance to Block: 35 * .5 + 5 = 22.5%

Total defensive ability: 45%
this is wrong cause the possibility that either blocking or parrying occurs must be seen as two happenings and cant be counted together. The correct formula in terms of probability calculus must be:
1-0.775^2= chance of block (which is 39.2 % which doesnt differs really from the figure above)

Conclusion 1.Trolls cant calculate
2.Im dooing too much maths
3. Forget all the calcs, just enjoy the game

Thank you for posting an actual formula, well thought out, with clear #'s for final results--the only reason i bother to check these forums anyway...:)
