How to spec good
# Jun 14 2004 at 5:59 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, my advice- spec atleast 3 in spirit(Because you get convert spirit, which kills your pet ang gives you mana), then spec into matter or body, which ever you want to do. I personally went matter because your dots stack, btw- for all you who dont know, you can stack 2 dots, your matter manipulation spec dots, and baseline regular matter dots. Body is nice too from what I hear, great disease- aoe disease, which is nice. But the aoe dot breaks mez, which really sucks- but at 40, respec to spirit, because at 46 you get a debuff which takes all resists down 50%. Which you can do such uber dmg with ur other dd/dot or your pet can pwn the enemy. Then put the rest to matter or body- Matter is really nice though because near sight, so thats what I'd say. But, its your cabby, go nuts.

the "Matter" and "Matter Manipulation" dots WILL stack.
If you AoE dot (matter manip) and then use your free matter dot, they will stack.
No two dots will stack with another dot if its in the same spell line
AoE DoTs

you get the first aoe dot at spec 18 in matter
Have I made a mistake somewhere?

Level 22 Cabalist. Spirit 12, Matter 11, Body 11. I can solo oranges and some reds, depending on the monster class. What I have not seen as yet are *any* of the AOE DOT spells such as "Puncture Spirit". What do I need to train in to get them? Matter? Spirit?

I am comfortable with Body at this point as the spells I have in that list work quite nicely, but I would like to be able to assist party members with AOE DOT spells.

Dot stacking

I cannot seem to stack the buffs either...
If I cast the lower spec first, and a higher(lvl) base second, I don't get a message saying spell is in effect as I do if I reverse the order; however the damge doesn't register in test, also I don't notice a significant increase in damge.
Bear in mind that I am not even 10 yet, but the rules should be the same. More info on this would be great.

A higher lvl spell will over ride a lower lvl one. So if you put a higher buff or dot on and then try a lower lvl one of the same spec line they will not stack. So when you put on the lower spell first then the higher, the higher one will overide the lower. Thats why you dont see a large increase in damage being dealt.
Damage Shield

Are these numbers correct for the pet damage shield spells? It seems Very High to me. 33.9 at level 50? Other damage Shield spells are around 5.0 at highest levels.

I may be wrong about the damage shields of other classes, but I think they work just like buff spells. Cabalist damage shields, on the other hand, are focus spells. This means that once you've cast the damage shield on the pet, you can't move, sit, cast, or anything else or it will cancel the spell. All you can do while the damage shield is up is talk. This would explain why the cabalist damage spells are so powerful.

At first I thought there would be no point in specializing in matter because of this, but then I got to thinking, if you specialize in matter, you get two lines of very powerful dots. Send your pet at the creature, cast your dots, put up the damage shield, then wait for the experience. Might be kinda boring, but I bet it's very effective for soloing.

You are wrong about the other classes. The pet classes of the other realms also have pet-only focus damage shields, which work exactly like this one.

I, too, would like some confirmation as to the strength of the Reflect Attack line of spells. 33/sec seems way too good to be true. Surely it's more like 33 per hit?

From what i understand the damage depends on the speed of the weapon times the # damage you see here. So if ya use a delay of 3 weapon it will do 99 damage every smack, absurdly high.

But true, the dmg shield for matter cabbies is HUGE.

# Jul 30 2002 at 1:03 PM Rating: Default
These numbers are correct. However, keep in mind that a fully spec'ed Cabalist can in no way heal its pet, while both Spiritmaster's and Enchanter's recieve heals as base spells. Cabalist pets are more the 'kill it before it kills you' type.

Yes the damage shield amounts are correct. Also the pet heals are part of the base spell line, no speccing required, they are the same as the enchanter spells so far ( I play a lvl 19 cabby and a lvl 18 ench). Cabby pet can solo an orange with just the lvl 15 matter dmg shield - its 10dps if memory serves and no need for dots or heals.

Actually, they do. But the other pet classes, namely Spirtmasters and Enchanters, do get some spells to make up for it. Besides, give the cabalists a break...they have the least useful group spells, and the focus shield can really only be used soloing: in RvR they're dead if they stand still for that long with that mana drain. More useful to go full on matter then respec to Body at 40.
Reality Check
# Dec 21 2001 at 6:22 PM Rating: Default
Hey, check it: Lots people want to spec body & matter as cabalists. Why? I don't see no Body/Matter listing. Does that conjure up some invisible spell set? Seems to me since I like dots so much that going Matter/Spirit is better since Delaceration seems to be the best dot available to us. What do you really think is more helpful, some lame nuke for 130..even if its 200 base, and you are spec'd and do 280 or something, a dot with an 89 base, PER TICK, with FIVE TICKS, is pretty much going to blow the doors off yer piddly little wuss-*** wanna-be wizard spells with the built in wanna-be cleric aspect.

But, hey, you guys must be doing it for a reason so what gives?!

DoT Stacking
# Nov 25 2001 at 12:36 PM Rating: Default
Does the AE DoT stack with the Single Target DoT? I've already found out that the spec DoT line for Body doesn't stack with the free DoT line, and was quite disappointed. I'm just wondering if once this school of magic is trained up, will we STILL be left with just a single effective DoT.

As of today's patch, the base line and spec line DoTs should stack. Still not sure about the AoE DoT though.
