I don't have a character who can use 2-handed weapons (so that I can test the theories out) but I have read a lot online about this with forums and such. To date, I have heard rumors of both 1-handed affecting and not affecting the damage on 2-handed weapons. I did recently find one developer chat which makes me think that 1-handed has /nothing/ to do with 2-handed.
Quoted: Your specialization in the weapon type determines your "range" - the number between the minimum damage the weapon can do and the maximum. Let's say someone with no spec in sword can hit, with a certain type of sword, for as low as 5 points and as many as 20. If you have points in that type, you could still only hit for a max of 20, but your damage floor would be higher - let's say 10. The more spec points, the higher the floor. So being speced in a weapon type means you will over time do a much higher average damage than someone who is untrained.
So, basically, your max damage is /not/ affected, and the 2-handed spec affects your min damage with 2-handed weapons.
Here's the link from the forums (the paragraph is at the bottom of the developer's post): http://forums.ofcamelot.com/mbb/sm.x?c=darkageofcamelot&f=camelotmain&message=2107
Thanks so much Man ... I have been getting worried about putting my points from my next level into Slashing insted of Chants .. but what you said has really made my worries dissapear .. YOU RULE!!! Zaneth LEVEL 10 Pally MERLIN
I disagree. That quote you have says "specialization in the weapon type" - seems to me that that would mean Slash, Crush, Thrust, not 2 handed. With my 2 hander Armsman (yes its effective), I've noticed my damage improving a little with each point I put into Slash. I haven't put many until this is confirmed tho.
this is not a flame, just an observation, how can you say '(Yes its effective)' & 'I disagree' followed by 'i dont dare put many points in slashing till i find out'? yes i have read many posts regarding 2hander weps using 1 hander skills, and i mean to test the theory. I am currently level 8 with my test armsman and have not spent 1 single skill point (O M G its hard trying to level now) by level 10, (when arms men recive 2 hand wep style) i will have 94 spec points it will cost me 54 spec points to max my 2 hand skill, with a remainder of 40 (which i belive will buy me 8 ranks in any skill from skill level 1) i will then go and find some blue mobs, and kill 5 (making a note of the avrage damage over the 5 kills, as well as min, and max) after this i will train slash to 8 ,and repeat the process - then i will let you know my results

Yes PARRY works with 2 handed weapons. I am a Paladin of the 18th circle and have been using 2HS for some time. Parry skill is a little low, but i still manage to parry at least once or twice a fight per mob.
I haven't raised my 2h skill to any point that would justify any comment from me to be held as meaningful. So, take this as what it is... comments from the peanut gallery meant to inspire more discussion.
Somewhere, I remember reading that your 2h skill affected the maximum amount of damage you could do with a 2h weapon. At the same time, your 1h skill would effect the minimum amount of damage you would do, as well as, the amount of wear you inflicted upon the weapon.
So, if you had a 12 in 2h and a 25 in 1h slashing, you would have the potential to inflict higher amounts of damage per hit than another individual who had a 5 in 2h and a 35 in 1h slashing. At the same time, the other person would have a much higher minimum for the damage they inflicted per hit and wouldn't destroy their weapon as quickly.
Most 2h weapons are or either a crushing/blunt/slashing/piercing variety
will you skill involved in slashing affect my use of a Great 2H Sword? If so what does my slashing skill affect in contrast/addition to my 2H Weapons skill?
