RE: question
# May 21 2003 at 5:06 PM Rating: Default
the best template for a thane is 48 stormcalling, 42 sword, 42 shield. the 42 stun is really cool to protect healers and in 1-1 duel

Sword Vs Spear
# May 27 2002 at 3:11 PM Rating: Default
Whats best sword or spear?

I was wondering as I soon am making a character in Midgard on the excalibur server and was thinking a hunter would be good and I want to train in compasite bow and the magic one witht the animals, forgot it now, hehehe....

Anyways and as a weapon for melee I was wondering, sword or spear? This will just be a back-up becuase I wont be training in it much till later on :)
Fumble
# May 26 2002 at 4:35 AM Rating: Default
I have played since the day daoc was released. Since then, Ive never had a player fumble against me in a rvr fight. That is very sad considering I spent 95% of my time on the frontier. I have seen people fumble against monsters, even myself. But never in a Player vs Player fight. Believe me when I tell you that if it ever happens hell froze over.

The fumble prequisite is the WORST one hands down. Even in a Player vs Environment situtation a monster fumble is so rediculiously rare that it just wastes a slot haven the style there.
How arare is rare? hmm. For a monster. I should have wrote it down the day it happened. seriously.

The requirement is now Frost Cut as the opening for Njord's Fury. I use it all the time. Works great.

Polar rift actually gives a high bonus damage - i just got this skill and looked at it in game. This means that this skill is actually not entirely useless

Has anyone ever seen a monster fumble? or is the lvl 39 mainly used for RvR?
attack speed reduction ???

Dose attack speed reduction mean, the enemy getz slower ?
or i suffer a attack speed reduction upon using this style ?

RE: jeesh....

Twilight Soul-Searer is a Two-Handed Sword that drops off Trow in Spindehalla. It turns yellow, and procs at level 42. You got a long way to go...sure you don't want to part with it? :)

Actually, Twilight Soul Searer procs at lvl 47 after they placed that patch in.

I use it with my 45 thane and no proc. With the new patch, it now actually says the required lvl.
parry and attack

its soooo hard to use combat styles such as cleaver then you have to parry before you use it can you give me any tips?
RE: parry and attack
# Jul 02 2002 at 6:19 AM Rating: Decent
get your parry up and use reinforcement+rush maaad dmg and low low fatigue cost
RE: parry and attack
# Apr 03 2002 at 5:00 AM Rating: Default
Don't use the ones with parry!
Use the combos witch are based on ervery time styles. Like Assault and than Ice Storm!
If you want to yous styles witch only work after parry you have to train parry and praktesise the right timing (it takes a long time until you got the timing)
Use the combos with ervery time styles it's better belive me :)
RE: parry and attack
# May 24 2002 at 10:50 AM Rating: Default
Hehe, that's why you put some into parry if you want to use it more. But man! those styles that needs opening parry really do lots of dmg. I think it is twice as much as the Assault-Ice Storm combo. When I get Sif's revenge, the parry combo will do way more dmg.

Coming from a 38 thane on Percival :)
I use Assault + icestorm and when i parry i use Reinforcement + rush i went the route of fast 1h sword and shield... has worked pretty well so far but as soon as that forged darksteel ******* sword i got in me vault turns yellow its next. Hope this helps
RE: Tiffiny
# May 24 2002 at 10:57 AM Rating: Default
Hehe here's my tactic.
I do assault + ice storm. If the enemy does not aggro me yet, I got behind it and do Paralyze with my shield (I think that is the style). If still not aggro, I will release Ragnarok!! (when i get it of course, still 45 :P) Then when it aggros me, I will block and then do Incapacitate. Then it will hit me again and I will parry then do Reinforcement-Rush-Niord's Fury combo. If the target is still alive, I stormcall his *** (mjollnir baby!)
(sarcasm)
# Feb 15 2002 at 4:38 AM Rating: Default
Holy crap, you use an Assault + Icestorm, and when they parry, you use Reinforcement + Rush? Thanks for the hot strat!

I might be goin out on a limb here, but maybe when you hit 44 spec, you could try doing Reinforcement + Rush + Sif's Revenge when you parry? I know, I know, I probably should leave this sorta stuff to the strategists such as yourself, but I thought maybe I could add something to the community.

No Frost Cut
# Dec 16 2001 at 4:24 PM Rating: Default
If a skill requires an opening you do not perform the skill just because you do it the skill does not go off. You will get the message that you have failed to perform whatever successfully. You have not done the skill.
RE: No Frost Cut
# Jan 29 2002 at 4:51 PM Rating: Default
Actually, with some skills it is stated that they are "best performed" after a cerain opening. You can still perform them on an enemy at any time, but instead of giving you bonus damage, it tells you "you have performed ------ perfectly and hit for --(-2), meaning you will actually do less damage with that style than without.

fumble
# Nov 26 2001 at 12:18 PM Rating: Default
Can someone tell me how you know if your target is fumble?? I just got this Njord's Fury style but don't know how to use it..

39 Skill Based Njord's Fury
Low fatigue cost, use after target fumbles, high bonus damage, medium duration stun, medium bonus to hit

I ask a gm and he doesn't know crab.
RE: fumble
# Jan 22 2002 at 10:25 PM Rating: Default
You see a message in the status window, if your target fumble, but you don't get a sound like with parry or block, so it's hard to recognize. Anyway it will hardly happen that your enemies fumble, so just forget about that crappy style. =)

I have a 10 norseman hunter and i'm unable to use my sword styles but the first one only :(. I have 6 points in this skill so i should be able to use 3 styles right ? Any informations on the mythic help system about that ? na ...

Perhaps one day we will see the "promised" Climb, Track ... and other things missing in this release ... sure it will be before the shadowbane release ... i can bet on that :(
RE: Styles ...
# Dec 12 2001 at 4:37 AM Rating: Default
It's normal. Some sword's skill need to use a shield (block / parry), and as Hunter we can't use them.
RE: Styles ...
# Nov 19 2001 at 8:11 AM Rating: Default
I have a level 6 Shadowblade, and I have level 4 with swords, according to the list, I should have the choice of whirling blade or frost cut. But when I look at the skill list, I have only Whirling blade, frost cut is not there.

I think it's the same with the hunter.

Makee sure you have the actual LVL 4 rather than 4 skill points invested in the spec line....sooooo many people make that mistake the first time around...
RE: Styles ...

I have a level 12 hunter and don't seem to have a problem however timing is important. Only hit your hot key once it should then apply the attack stye to your next attack. I hitting the hotkey again may disrupt your style attack.

RE: frost cut
# Oct 30 2001 at 10:37 AM Rating: Decent
Yes you can land a strike with Frost Cut wihtout a prior block. However, you do not get the short term bleed effect(some additional damage) unless the style is activated after a block.

No Frost Cut
# Oct 23 2001 at 3:36 PM Rating: Decent
I was wondering if anyone has seen this, or knows how to fix it.

I have a Shadowblade with 7 Spec. Levels in swords (I put 5 into swords prior to going Shadowblade) and have received Whirling blade and Draw out, but never received Frost cut.

A friend suggested I run around with a shield and see if I could get it to trigger, but that did not work. Any suggestions or known fixes?
RE: No Frost Cut
# Oct 24 2001 at 6:26 AM Rating: Default
Frost Cut is only usable after blocking. If you dont have the block ability or skill you will not get Frost Cut.
RE: No Frost Cut
# Oct 30 2001 at 3:16 PM Rating: Default
hmmm, odd...

I as a Skald do not have a named ability for block nor do I get Sheild Spec. (where you have an increased chance for block). I do get small shields ability from level 1, SBs get at level 5. So SB should have just as much ability to block as my norse skald. I'm unsure why you aren't getting Frost Cut.

As a Skald, I gave up trying to figure as to when to use this skill. I removed it from my hotkeys and used whirling blade a lot, Northern lights when grouped and in a god position. Assault will greatly enhance your fighting ability (and replace the Whirling Blade attack).
RE: No Frost Cut
# Nov 05 2001 at 9:42 AM Rating: Decent
Agreed. Yes, Skalds have block ability with shields, but it rarely comes into effect and in speedy melee it is sometimes hard to bring Frost Cut into play effectively, i.e. if the extra bleed damage is what you need to win the fight, you're probably going to die, although as always you will die with a peppy song to sing.
RE: No Frost Cut
# Dec 05 2001 at 5:09 PM Rating: Default
Relying on the bleed of frostcut is futile. However let me just say that the statement "Skalds have block ability with shields, but it rarely comes into effect" is about as large a falsehood as you will see. Take the best shield you can use and drop it on an enchanter. I have a shield with a 15% bonus on it and I have 10 points in parry with a sword with a 10% bonus on it. You will notice your parry is actually less effective then the block from the shield you have no skill in. Again, so much for frost cut taking up prime real estate on your 8 slot bar. At level 26 blue mobs hit me 0 to 3 times a battle. Yellows are blocked/parried about 30% of their swings (about 1/4 parry, sorry frost cut). Use a shield, get it enchanted, and get back out there solo killing yellows that can only beat you to 3/4 to half life. Sure against reds and purples you only block one or two a battle. Think of how much mana your healer just saved on those.
