alright, to clear up any questions of what kind of L.W. weapon to use blunt, slash... which is beter for groups, which is beter for battlegrounds/frontier. this answer is simple:

ALWAYS carry both blunt and slash with you above level 20'ish... depending on bonus to hit you get on certain monsters/armor switch between the two. it will save your life.

Large Weapon is very nice because of the fact you get BOTH slash and Blunt in one skill.

What I don't get about your question... which sword is better for performance the 2handed... or the great sword? THEY ARE BOTH 2Handed. If you want to hit like a pansy you could choose the fast 2handed weapons, but the slower the speed of the weapon the more dmg you will do. They are all effective, if you don't want aggro don't taunt :P. Cuz if you do have a hero in the group and he is a firbolg LW User then ya pretty much have no chance of getting aggro from him anyway if he is doing what he is suppose to do. Anyway all LW are effective, in the other reply to the two handed vs. great, the guy said you could hit faster and get more styles off and have less downtime. Errrr wrong, the more you hit the more endu you use up and the faster the weapon the weaker the hits which means the battle last longer... you lose more hp and end. The SLOWER the weapon the better. You hit for more, you don't take as much dmg cuz by the time your swinging the weapon for the 3 time whatever you are fighting is about dead, and if you are uber like my hero hehe you parry most of the attacks anyway, b/c by this time you have realized it is your main source of defense and by this time you have Mastery of Parry RA and hopefully learned the more Dext you have ther more you will parry and evade attacks.

I have found both usefull. I fine the 2handed sword great for soloing. I hits faster so I can get more styles in per a fight witch in the long run means less health lost and less down time.

The Great Sword is ok for soloing, but if you miss, its a big gap in the damage. This i find is better in groups. You will hit for a lot of damage, but dont tend to take agro as much. Champions are not the best of tanks, leave that to the hero if there is one in your group. If not switch to the 2 handed and go at it. Hope this helps

RE: what the crap
# Jan 16 2004 at 2:02 AM Rating: Decent
actually, CS is THRUST... the CS's damage is based solely on strength. If you go pierce, then you better have your dex boosted just as high as your str, as pierce damage is 50%str/50%dex.

Best suggestion id if you're a Firbie, go with the CS, your str will be your best buddy...If you're a celt, go with pierce, as your dex and str are relatively close to start out with...In the end, STR is going to be higher and CS your best bet.

Also, Piercing will strike twice as fast, but only half as hard as the CS, so if youre looking for damage, consider if you want want to do one big hit or lots of small hits.

what are the attributes that Large Weapons are based on?

I know that Celtic Spear is only Strength, and a weapon like Blades is strength and dexterity.

Does anyone know?
RE: Rekx
# Jul 09 2003 at 11:39 AM Rating: Decent
Stength for one, but if you did like I did and maxed out LW and Parry to 50, and the rest in shield, since when you use LW you can't block and your main defense is Parry, you might want to raise Dext a little also and get Dext items. Dexterity helps you parry more effieciently.

I am a 42 Large Weapon Hero. Putting points into blades and blunts etc. doesabsolutely nothing to your Large Weapon skill. They are different types of weapons. The only types of weapon skills that overlap in Hibernia are Celtic Dual and another type i.e. Blades, blunts, piercing. The reason for this is Celtic Dual affects the probability of you attacking with two weapons and so therfore it is not a weapon type. No large weapon is piercing, the only "Large Weapon" in Hibernia with piercing is the spear. So training in another weapon type will do ABSOLUTELY NOHING for your Large Weapon ability or damage.

Why Waste Points
# Mar 25 2002 at 6:08 AM Rating: Default
If putting points in blunt, blades, etc. raises your MINIMUM damage, ***** it i would rather max out large weapon and then valor, and parry. The timing on the combos are kindof tricky to get used to, but they do a whole lot of damage when you get them to work. I can easily do yellows and oranges with out having to worry about minimum damage

any wep that takes 2H is a large wep so in order to be better at this only put points in large weps (blades, blunt, piercing will do nothing for you)

combat attacks
# Jan 28 2002 at 8:59 PM Rating: Default
i think the biggest problem is waiting for the correct opening for an attack. you sit for the whole time waiting to evade so you can use a certain attack, and when you do, you either attack b4 you can get the combat style off, or you just miss the attack. DAoC should fix this to an extent. Also, i found it easiest just to train in celtic spear all the way and not worry about large two handed weapons.
RE: combat attacks
# Jul 09 2003 at 11:47 AM Rating: Decent
How long have you people been playing this game heh. Ok you're talking about a problem I use to have like when my hero was lvl 15 and that was a year ago. DAoC implemented a ability during combat that lets you choose two styles. Here is how it works, going by what you said with the evade style... If you are a hero you usually open up combat with a taunt, or a skill that doesn't require you to evade or parry. After you use this first attack and you choose your next style, what you do is choose the evade style but right after that, choose a style that doesn't require you to do anything (block, parry, evade, etc...). If your guy evades the attack, your guy will automatically do the evade style. If you get hit or you don't evade, your guy will do the secondary style that you picked for him.

RE: LW
# Jul 09 2003 at 11:50 AM Rating: Decent
Wrong, they are not basically the same thing, they produce totally different dmg. CS is pierce, if you choose LW you get the other 2 dmg types... Blunt and Slash.

When?

This may be a stupid question, but I can't figure it out. When might I, a Hero, be able to train in the Large Weapons skill? I am very young but would like to know none-the-less. Also, If anyone could let me know what the best trade skill for me to take up would be, I'd appreciate it.

what i did is put all my points pretty much into large weapons.... it does seem to really help all that much to have like 3/4 of my points there and not get decent damage with a killer dope *** sword.... i get ****** damage with about 20-40% bonus.... whats up with that...i guess i must upgrade my base skills?
Crap chains
# Dec 02 2001 at 10:10 AM Rating: Default
Is it just me, or does LW have the worst chain styles of every weapon in every realm? One chains off of a parry reaction style. The other chains off of a side positional style. Not ONE chains off of an opening style. What CRAP! Totally useless for RvR. Well, I guess it fits with the rest of Hibernia in that aspect.
RE: Crap chains
# Dec 09 2001 at 4:29 AM Rating: Default
Thank you for this post. You are very correct in your statement. I have been playing midguard up until the last week and Hibernia is very much inferior because of their special moves requiring some event to occur (parry, block, etc.,). Who has the time to watch all of this while trying to cast and fight. If DOAC needs to improve anything it is this for Hibernia. Please remove these % based (parry, block, evade, side, etc.) occurences from the MAJORITY of the special moves. This is not just for large weapons, but for all other weapons (blunt, celtic dual, etc.).
Finnaly: The Lowdown on Large Weapons
# Dec 01 2001 at 8:21 PM Rating: Default
Recently on www.CamelotHerald.com (thats Mythic's official DAOC site) they released this information.

Hibernia

The base weapon skills in Hibernia are Blade, Pierce, Blunt, Large Weaponry and Celtic Spear. Each of these skills are completely independent of one another and are raised as you would raise any standard weapon skill. i.e. Large weaponry does not use the base skill as it does in Albion to tighten damage, and Celtic spear does not use the pierce skill.

I have a Champ and I've put about 1/3 of my skill points towards blades so that I could boost my effectiveness in PvE and RvR but it now it seems as though I have wasted my points. Putting them into a skill category that I will never use. I feel cheated. All the written information you can find(if you can find any) on this skill points to Large weapons needing a base skill to function properly. Now we see otherwise. I'm upset that this information came so late in character development. I think that this should be looked at seriously and that the points should be given back to the champs who appeal so that they can fix this problem.

this is messed up then why would they have a weapons that add to your primary skills Blades, blunt, per
SPINE SPLITTER +2 blunt +5 Empathy then primary skill should add to your damage or how good you weild a cetian type of large Weapon ???

I find it dissapointing to learn the i have wasted my skills points on blunt weaps only to learn that it doesnt apply to my great hammer that i have wanted for so long! I guess a large figgin hammer isnt blunt 0_o..So be careful potential champs..when u are training b4 lvl 5 u cant use your your base skills,<ie, blunt> for two handed weaps, only large weap skill appys to that. (so what about all the blunt weap styles i have..cant use them..will i get more?? hmm sUxOr!)
And im not sure on the styles that require an opening..when do i do that..should i start it and HOPE i parry or start it after i parry?? i guess i can find the answer easily in the game but might save someone time if the are reading this..Happy Hunting JLoKey

OK, I am a little ticked about the available information on this. Here's my specs.

Blunt - 14
Parry - 14
Large Two Handed - 18

I have been using large blunt and bought a large sword for the heck of it. BOTH DO ABOUT THE SAME AMOUNT OF DAMAGE! Both lows are about the same and the highs are about the same. I get bonus's on insects with blunt and bonus's on mammal's with Sword. If I had known this I would have spec'd in Large 2 handed, celtic spear and parry.

Yes this blades and Lrg Weapons issue is very confusing...Many people disagree about this topic...Does blades up your min damage if u specailize in Large Weapons? Some people say yes while others say no...whats the deal????

-If blades help how much do u put in training points into this ????

-Also where can u get hit information for others to read up on..???

ok, i dont think its been clearly difined yet.

if you use large weapons does your blunt/blades skill have anything to do with the large weapon dmg?
LW and Blades/Blunt
# Nov 28 2001 at 6:45 PM Rating: Default
"Unlike other weapon skills, damage done by these weapons are a combination of two skills; Large Weapon and either Blunt, Blades or Piercing (depending upon the weapon type). Putting points into blunt, blades or piercing skill raises the weapon's minimum damage while putting points into Two Handed weapon increases the maximum damage. Is this true? "

Still no official words from Devs, but it is generally accepted now that this was false, and you only need the points in Large Weapons. There is a Dev post from beta which supports this, but alas, no recent word.

Camelot Herald has just come out with a post saying that for Hibernian characters large weapons and celtic spear are base skills and they alone affect your min damage.

Weapon Skills and Damage
# Nov 03 2001 at 6:03 AM Rating: Default
The higher spec you have in a weapon-type, the greater chance of doing higher dmg. In the strategy guide, it is explained like this:

No training, base skill in a weapon-type, you will do 75%-100% max dmg.

Max skill lvl in a weapon-type (equal to your lvl) will allow you to always do 100%-125% of max dmg.

So yes, your skill lvl in a weapon-type has an affect on how much dmg you deal. Depending on your skill lvl, you will be able to do a varying amt of % of max dmg. Your best bet is to pick one weapon type, keep it maxed, and distribute extra points in parry or shield depending on your style.

From what Im reading off the the other boards your chance to hit is based strictly off level just that the specialization allows you to do the attack styles for extra dmg as for adjusting minimum dmg I have no idea
