Timers (Root and DoT)
# May 28 2003 at 10:12 AM Rating: Default
DOT spells have a timer of 24 seconds, and they 'tick' every 4 seconds, so basically you get 7 shots with that dot (6 from the timed effect, and 1 from the initial hit)

so, let's say you're hitting a yellow for 100 per tick, that means you're doing 600 dmg plus an additional 100 for the initial cast. Not bad, yes?

And root is affected by spec in cave (for % to resist, etc) and affects mobs differently as their con changes. The value of time the delve info gives is for a root cast on a yellow/blue con mob. So if you're throwing it on a grape, it's not going to last near as long as listed.

Sorry, you only get 6 shots, not seven. Haven't you ever counted?

Oh ya, and I recommend, if you're going to spec Cave, to only do it to 41. Lvl 41 in Cave gives you the last DD and Bolt, and the DoT is natural so you don't have to worry about training it.

I'd say forget Mending, and dump the rest of your points into Aug. You'll be able to get End Regen 4, which is group castable and is like a perma-sprint, so you'll at least always be moving faster then mere running speed. Always a bonus!

BOLT-DOT-DD-DISEASE will kill an OJ because u don't give him a chance to heal. I have a 100%success ratio soloin avernals in df at 31. OJ avernals - not red - I know i could take a red but my %success would drop to about 70% - don't like them odds
You all must know - I'm maxed in CAVE - 100%cave - love the cave. Had a 26 shammy who had Aug/Cave/Mend - Voodoosuicide - had to give him up. That was a bad combo
Talk to aug shammies - ask them if they can solo oj's 100% - i hope they don't lie to you. Fact is NO. With the latest mod they took the DD timer off the Bolt - now they're seperate. Savior for the caveshammy soloist. Look at the spread of spells in aug n mend few and too far apart. Look at the spells for Cave(Subterranean) A lot and tight together. I think the shammy was meant for this purpose : Troll=Mage/Fighter/Healer Kobold=Mage/Healer/Fighter - I have pretty decent buffs as a cave monkey - and you will NOT make yourself a good fighter with aug buffs - if thats what u want - be a skald - they will kick an aug shammies *** - even at a distance - Give the CAVE shammy that same distance and I WILL slay = lvl Skalds - Even if i only get off poison and disease - (my disease is instant so it can't be dispelled) but a BOLT-DOT-DD-DISEASE is a guaranteed slay for even =lvl zerky - No other class can claim that because shammies are tough bastards.

Killing orange Avernals that way at 31 is one thing, killing oranges that are 46 or 47 when you are 41 is another. I suspect you'll find high oranges after 40 will hit you too hard for you to stand around and wait for the dot to kill em, and you're hammer hits won't be enough to make up the difference. Shammy can kill high oranges after 40, and even reds, fairly easy... but You'll prolly find it's a lot safer to kite em around a bit and put the dot on a second time to finish them rather that tank em down.

46 AUG speccd shammy here!
# Aug 19 2002 at 10:32 AM Rating: Default
K you all want to know about cave. Well speccingin in it is way overrated. I specced cave at first, minor aug and mend and seend that i could kill blues. I respecced at 45 to 42aug/23mend/ and whopping 1 cave...my spells we about the same though i had major buffs that buffed my HP +500 hp and +90 str and +114 dex. Put that together and i was soloing yellows with ease. Orange still a no no casue you ahve no weapons styles. Also in groups i buff everyone up so high that we wipe out huge groups with ease. Most of the cave spells come from level based anyway. The DOT poison still hits for over 100+ a tick and tangling creepers all work the same level no matter. The only differences is the AE spells. Which AE doesn't really do that much better.

hi, i believe the shaman isnt strong in solofight, what can he do? dot, agree, and one, only one direct damagespell, we can take maybe the half health of target, then we are death. Caster are killing us faster them make more damage, bowmens, we mustnt talk about who will win (. melee? oh no chance. In pvp we are with the badest class of daoc, in rvr we are great, maybe we dont kill someone alone, but in rvr we are winner with our area spells.
I think we have 2 types , cleric or shaman every class is great

Tarbos lvl 42 cleric and nagen lvl 32 shaman.

anyone done a shammy with 46+ in cave magic ?
Id wonder if a shammy is worth anything in RvR...
as I see it now (lvl 38, 25 cave magic) I have nothing to do in RvR but toss a few heals & rez.
DoT's timed?

I am thinking of startings a shammy (who hasnt) and was wondering wethere the dots wear off after a time or keep on acting until the nme is dead. I come from an EQ world where dots are timed so bear with me.

You are the reason I love killing shammies with my cleric. It isn't too hard. You cannot block my DDs and you are like free RPs when i get close to you. Don't get me wrong I have a shammy too and he is sweet. I know better than to get into cleric range though because once a decent smiter has you, you can just lay down you are already dead. Range is all a shaman has on a cleric, and I have a minstrel partner helping me close the gap. Sending your tanks to slow me down? I will gladly mez them with my instant AE no need to target mez in the middle of casting at you. Oh I missed one, dang, I guess my 2 instant no mana heals will make this easy then. Shamen are nice but until shammies get a touch more offense they can't hold up to a cleric.
RE: Mythci really sucks..

I dunno, I'm having a blast eating Albion clerics for breakfast in Caledonia (and vice versa, I'm sure). See, the thing is to learn your class and abilities. I know what my limits are. The clerics I've met in my travels know theirs. As was alluded to above, if a cleric gets the drop on me, I'm toast. However, the same goes for them. If I catch them napping a bit, they don't have a chance.

It all depends on who gets lucky, that's all.

Hmm. Wonderful display of intelligence there. I'm awed. :S Last I checked, Albion clerics were also far far far far (you get the idea) different than shaman. Why don't you compare them to Mid's healers and you'll see more similarities...and I don't find a cleric's smites anything to be referred to as simple and useless junk. I will concede that shaman have a powerful combination of skills, but I won't say they're more powerful than another class...just different.

I noticed in the listing above that there is no mention of the area effect Spore cloud line of spells. Does anyone have a listing of the upgrades to this line? Right now, with a 20 cave spec, my latest one shows under info as:

Spore Cloud
Function: dmg-over-time
Damage per tick: 31
Target: Targetted
Range: 1500
Duration: 20 sec
Power Cost: 16
Casting Time: 3.0 sec
Radius: 350

I can't wait to launch this on the back row of healers in RvR :)

When a creature is Rooted with the shaman root spell you CAN Debuff without breaking the root , so root then debuff and it will stay still until something or someone does damage to it.
Proper Use of Root

16 posts
Root fails the moment the target takes any kind of damage...from your own damage-over-time spell, another's arrow, that viking lighting bolt spell thingy...basically anything that deals it damage will break the root.

I use it to break up an incoming cluster of mobs (this works particularly well in outdoor situations)...Just root some in the back as they make their rush on your position...this keeps them out of the way while you take care of the initial ones up front. Just make sure your group members know how to recognize a rooted target and understand not to attack it.

In a cluster of mobs...pick out the highest lvl mob that you think will aggro if one of the closest mobs were to be pulled. Root him and then take care of his underlings...then debuff and poison him or beat him mercilessly.

Remember that your Fungal Covering line of damage shields also do damage to mobs. So if you hope to root a mob that is already in melee range, forget it if your DS is up.

Damage Shield
# Nov 05 2001 at 1:22 PM Rating: Default
What exactly does the damage shield do? Am I right in saying that it takes some of the damage dealt and gives it back to the attacker?
RE: Damage Shield
# Nov 25 2001 at 9:55 AM Rating: Decent
I believe the way it works is that it does not absorb damage, but does deal damage back to the atacker everytime the target gets hit. When I use it, everytime I get hit the damage message for the creature hitting me is followed by "you hit the mob for and additional x damage" At level 17 I have 9 spec points in Aug and typically hit back for about 5 dmg per hit received. Since I hit for about 20 dmg per swing, this spell increases my dmage output by about 25% if the creature is hitting me regularly. If the creature is missing me, my damage output is not as heavy, but I am not taking damage either. The percentage is probably a bit lower when placed on a Viking type as they likely do more damage unbuffed in melee.

The damage per sec is the same as the DPS rating on the weapon, it does not hit every second, but the damage returned is modified by the attack speed of the attacker

Fungal Decrepitude (dot) 18-47 per tick vs Orange to purple.

Also Disease seems to be AE.

Hiya, as a shammy, you get 2 disease spells, the first is target only, the second at lvl 16 i believe, is an ae spell so if you wanna debuff in dungeons switch to your first disease, sickening spores i think its called.
