My NS is having some problems ever I go.
Ppl dont want me in groups and in RvR I dont get rezz because im a assasin. But I want to tell you all you idiots that think assasins dont change much in RvR, they DO !! So ffs give us a rezz if we die.

You dont spec anything, the spell line is called Nightshade, just like a mentalist spell line is called Mentalism I guess... You get the spells automatically as you attain the appropriate level, so when you are level 22 you will get Lesser Nocturnal Strike etc...

The reason NS have spells is simple. All the assassin classes get a long range tool to use for say, if someone is running away with low life and you dont want to chase them into dangerous territory. Shadowblades have throwing weapons, infiltrators have crossbows, and we have spells. I think ours are the best, and most fun =)

And honestly peopel, at level 22 I was killing some koalinth. I could do about 130 dmg with a PA and if I pulled using 3 spells, it was about 150 dmg. Maybe our spells are more of a PvE thing =)

You guys are all smoking crack.. Spell line useless? Infiltrators and shadowblades can't do what nightshades can. Okay.. at level 24 in the 20-24bg this is what my shout does for me-

Perf, 130dmg, 7bleed, 25poison, woot, <quickbar> zapped again (immediately too) for 40dmg, oh..wait! I have a item proc too. =P zap. lol. 50dmg. Hmm.. anyways. 130+7+25+40=202dmg. -40 from shout=162dmg. Hm, infiltrators and shadowblades can't do this. I guess our shout is useless.................................whatever, idiots.

Infiltrators get 2.5 per lvl because Disguise will be skill based for them compared to 2.2 for the others... so umm hey, where is Disguise??? We sit here with weak *** spells, while they get .3 extra skill points, that ADDS UP to a **** of a lot more!!! Wtf.

The insta-DD spell is to un-stealth other asassins in RvR, inturrupt casters in casting spells and also to inturrupt archers in drawing a shot. Sure un-stealthing an asassin also un-stealths you but it also neglects them of their large critical shot, thus saving your group members and allowing them to kill the asassin. The casted spell that takes time to cast is very useful for hanging back and nuking another group's healer. It inturrupts them and does not let them get the heals off.

When i started my NS, it said that we were good spell casters... Apparently our 2 spells constitute good. I have a hero and druid also and the NS is very difficult to play and doesn't solo nearly as well. A couple of buff spells would certainly offset my inability to solo well, as well as making me a good spell caster versus laughing / crying at my current good spells. LOL

oh i forgot to say, never forget that you re not the tank even if, with your moves, you make more damage ( aggro) then the main tank. and if you do so hopefully you can taunt the enemy off you. You will find detaunt in the piercing line. cu

Its kind of ironic that you say that. I love my Nightshade because i *can* play the tank. In almost every group i've ever played with i end up the puller, and have been told multiple times that my NS makes a great tank. I'm not trying to brag or anything, i just want to give the view that it *is* possible for a NS to play tank. i'm not very high level and i'm fairly new to the game. but it works well for me..
(just for reference i have almost all of my skills in envenom, blades, and celt dual.. with meduim amounts of stealth and crit strike).

Well the spell is actually just made to pull an mob out of a group of aggro mobs. Cause if you go with stealth in the group and backstab or use another move you will have many new freinds in a sec. Playing a 30+ nighshade myself i can tell that worst what can come upon you are two enemys same time. Then you have to finish fast one and hopefully your end. isnt too much down for finishing the second. and if my spells would make more damage i could be a great eldritch.

Throughout 5 classes of play (Armswoman, Mercenary, Nightshade, Warden & Thane), my nightshade is definatly the most fun to play...

Allthough I rather feal the spell list for this class was neglected a little. Now i know that this is mainly a me'lee class, and therefor shouldnt have a huge spell spec-line, but one spell 'type'?(its not even a spell spec line, rather a 'bonus' level related ability).
I feal thet Mythic should have included at least a DoT line for this class to partner with the DD (weather you have to chose a spec line like: DD or DoT, or weather you get both through level advancment: say level 1, get DD ability, level 3, get DoT ability, ect..), or maybey not DoT at all, but insted some nature or regroth spec - lines. Perhapse a whole 'Specilist Nightshade' only spell-list spec line.
I dont know, just something to give a bit more versitility to the way you play the class, as fun as the class is to play, in all honesty, one nightshade is pritty much the same as another (Granted the Poison's do grant some freedom of tactics - but not much).

These are just my thaught's, and any comments or flames are welcome. As long as it relates to the topic in hand.

OK guys, I play a shadowblade and was disappointed at the fact I have power but no spells, but after looking over the classes and comparing them I have come to this conclusion. Your spell is in place of my thrown weapons which is in place of an infiltrators crossbow. I do not know if there is a big range difference, but I also know I can only throw 2 daggers before a mob is on me, while I saw a post below saying he can get his spell to go off 4 times. If you want a DOT is is called a poison, our true "spell" line. Personally I would rather have a ranged spell line that increased as I increased in lvl. I only sport grey daggers for pulling away from a mob if they are clumped to close. I think that was it was intended to do. I think having an infinite dagger that armor doesn't soak up sounds great.

Yeah..except Shadowblades, like Berserkers.. are "broken", or "unbalanced". Their physical/melee damage is rediculous. Left axe is rediculous.

Maybe after the patch today when my spells go to skill 0 for less variance I'll appreciate it more. At the moment, when my shout goes off for 45 it's great..but a lot of times it goes off for 11 too, and that is not very cool compared with two handed axe usage, left axe ability, etc.. Man, I really hate Midgard players. lol

I have found that the DD spells are very useful for pulling when soloing. Its easiest if you just barely are in range to cast, then cast your spell as many times as you can (usually 2-3) before the mob gets to you, then fight with you're 2 venomed daggers, with where I put my skill points I hit the mobs 4 times per round, plus bleed and poison damages. I can kill yellows still at 20 solo as i have been since I started my character. So our spells are not worthless. Remember, Foremost we are theives, not casters.

Not to be rude but the spells have a use. The spell line while not great has a use it is for while hunting in a group or in a RvR battle hanging back during Melee you can let a few rip for easy damage before attempting anything else.

Truth be told, this line of spells is completely without worth, since by using them as pull spells, you completely forfeit the opportunity to use your critical strike chain hits, which are really your only hope of victory against a blue or higher creature.

Now you can see what lvl the poison has.
This is the same lvl you nee in envenom to use it!

If you right click the poison in the shopkeepers list it will display in your info box in the lower right hand corner the poisons name and the level of the poison- Then if your skill in the envenom ability is equal or better than that number you can use the poison-

We can't even use out spell as a last resort, you have to stop attacking completely then click the spell again to start casting, by then your dead or you just eliminated your chance of surviving, and to use the spell to pull isn'r so good, the range is kinda low.

Yeah, the DD spell we have really is just a minor utility. Only time i use mine is if i need to pull for the group.. which most healers aren't crazy about anyway. As we know, our hps aren't great and generally i make it back just in time to get ranged a few times while the mob is advancing. But, its atleast an option for some groups.

I wonder what mythic was thinking when they decided to make all of our spells DD. I would think it would be more appropriate to give a nightshade an invisiblity spell or a personal illusion or something like that. Anything would seem more appropriate than DD spells.

This spell is not worthless. I use it a lot to speed up my leveling. Granted I use my level 42 druid to follow me around and buff/heal, I can easily kill yellows without healing during a fight. When fighting agro camps, it's **** of a lot easier to pull them to me than stealth in and kill those on the fringe. I don't really care what the damage is, it just does about 1 swing of damage.

Nightshades really arent meant to use spell IMHO. What helps are the poison you use on ur weapon. The higher ur envenom skill the better poison you can use. Spellcasting is more along the lines as a last resort.

Koranis,

Hold shift, right click your spell in your quickbar. This removes it, then add the spell to your quickbar again from your spell list.

That should fix it. I had to do that as well. But ever since it has upgraded fine.

Check your spell window, we only get one spell, the name just changes when it gets upgraded. The symbol stays the same.

I guess you could say we have two spell lines. The Strike Line, which must be used at a distance, and the Night line, which can be used at close range.

Uhm... not true. Lesser Twilight Strike at level 5, and Dart of Night at level 6, for example, have different effects and different symbols. You can be interrupted casting The twilight strikes, but not casting dart of night, which does instand damage, which at lower levels, can help to finish off the enemy before you calk it yourself. ^_^

Think you should check the dates on the original post... as it was made in October 2001..!! the direct damage spell had not even been implemented, (nor prolly even thought of) at that time. So at that time there was only one type of spell.
