I started playing in December of 2001. Somewhere around GoD, my entire guild went to WoW and I hung up my spurs so to speak. About 6 years after that I came back and have played fairly regularly with a few months off here and there.

With the advent of the new progression server, and the memories it should bring to you folks who will play there, I have to say that the original EQ players must have been special indeed. No ZAM to tell you what to do. Zones that nobody knew. Quest details that must have needed a clairvoyant to solve. And it goes on and on.

I have recently been "epicing" up my chars and it is mind boggling to think of those first epic souls that worked through the steps and clues. A very special breed they were. Good on all of you original players!!! We current players owe you a debt of gratitude for your perseverance!

July 1999 here. I have printouts from EQAtlas that I used to try to find my way in the zones. I have printouts for classes. I have printouts for spells. I have printouts for recipes. I have print-outs for who knows what else. Some of these now are in folders Some are in a stack randomly, and pretty much forgotten.

My biggest salute goes to those who resolved the epic quests you mentioned. I recall making a suggestion when they were in progress and exploration was posted on-line. (I think I was wrong.)

The guy who puzzled out where the bottle for the rogue redemption quest was found will always top tmy list. The location only obvious once the riddle was solved. Valen the Rogue? I think that's who solved it. The story of how he solved it is probably cached over at thesafehouse.

Completing that one quest, and equipping the reward, left me with a satisfaction never quite equalled by any other quest or game.
