So... it's been nearly a year since any posting activity in the sticky thread about EQ housing.

Is it time to unsticky that, and give it a spot in the "Useful threads" sticky?

Historically, we tried to keep the number of stickies to 3 or less on any Allakhazam forum as this made for better viewing on the devices and gave more front-page-at-the-top viewing to the new threads.

We've been running 6 stickies for some time now. With that in mind...

Could the "items that need updates" & "Missing Items" stickies be consolidated into a new sticky --- maybe call it "Item Collector Updates" and it could combine all the purposes, including FAQ about the item collector. If it gets a couple of pages long, reboot it. Is that a reasonable idea?

"Looking for volunteer admins" makes sense as it's own sticky. Again, it may need to be rebooted once in a while to clear out the posts/make the call fresh.

Maybe... though I hesitate to suggest it, the "Just starting, been away, read here" thread should be put into the Useful threads sticky... rationale being that it is actually getting out of date a bit again (it is already a reboot of a very out of date and full thread).

If we did all of this we'd have 3 stickies:

Forum information and Useful threads
Looking for volunteer admin
Item Collector Updates

Thoughts?

Everyone has their favorite threads, I guess, but the housing one really shows off a whole subsystem of the game and the creativity of the players who explore it. I visit it often for inspiration, and I'd hate to see such a showcase of imagination and inventiveness buried under a generic "Useful Threads" topic. My two cents.

We're actually one of the only places that still gives that subset some attention, which is part of why that was stickied in the first place.

If a couple of users posted some housing images every few months it wouldn't even have caught my attention.

We've discussed things like this here before and not made the proposed sweeping changes, or modified the changes before doing them. That's the whole point of seeking input. Thanks for contributing.

OK, posting on this... Stickies for me are a personal peeve. Most people ignore them because every forum has stickies. IMO the whole concept of the stickie is flawed. People come to forums for the next new post, or for an answer to a problem. So they ignore the stickies and get into the fluid stuff. The problem is new people to a forum really should read the stickies. Putting dead stickies at the top just means most visitors have to scroll more to get to the real posts. Making the stickies replicate on forum page +1 is just horrific.

In a perfect world, there would be a place to house really important info that doesn't scroll the forum. And I hate to drop trendy catch phrases but "mobile friendly" isn't in favor of stickies. I don't have a solution, I know the amount of change that can happen here is minimal. Maybe consolidating all of the stickies into a "Useful threads" link would be easier to manage and be more useful.

snailish's suggestion of consolidating into:

Forum information and Useful threads
Looking for volunteer admin
Item Collector Updates

would be great if they could not be stickies but be a horizontal menu bar on top of the forum or part of the actual menus. And keep the housing link, even though it is out of date. That whole part of EQ was sidelined when they dropped the housing forum there. Even though I don't do much with it it is fun to see what the really creative people do.

[Subscribe (Reduced Price!)] [FAQ] [Useful Forum Links] [Looking for Volunteers] [Item Collector Updates] [EQ Housing]

That takes up far less space than stickies.

I like your suggestion better than mine.

Quite a few of the "useful threads" could be put into the existing progression or EQ wiki in the wiki menu tab. Gidono has been working on menu cleanup... this could dovetail into that. Hmm.
