I am returning to EverQuest after a couple years off and I used to play a magician and necromancer. I remember with a pet Focus item if I summon a pet without the item equipped the pet would be dark blue. Other times if I used and summons a pet with item equipped they would be white or yellow. Are there any pet Focus items or tiers or if I summons a pet with equip that would be red. Is yellow pretty much the highest I can get figured if could get better focus would help on mage and necro.

sorry I don't know but would that not be most pets if your leveling and you get a new pet one every 5 levels and once you level past it it would then con lower.
My virus scan is overreacting to it today... but necrotalk (class site) used to have a really good amount of information about pet foci.
Since most pet foci are mage/bst/necro aside from some of the earlier-implemented things it is actually quite useful.
mages tower is likely helpful in the same way, I just remember reading up about this as a necro years ago. At that time level 80 might of been the cap... some of the low level pet foci may have caused a red con (iirc at least on was coded to do a specific pet spell). Epic mage pet deal comes to mind too.
I'm not sure what they have done with the modern game in this respects, though I noticed there is a pet focus item on the loyalty vendor that might be useful if a person happened to be in the right level range when coming back. Pretty sure they did make it that you basically have to keep upgrading your foci for pets as it will only work for a very limited range of pet.

This is true it would con lower , but I figured the better the pet focus the longer it would last or be a benefit when fighting mobs. I figured even if it helps make the pet 5% more powerful every little thing helps, just like adding may not seem like much but 5ac makes a difference.

this should answer a lot of your pet focus questions. I have played a mage as a main for a long time. best con of a pet I ever got was yellow, for 3 of my lvls.
