Very nice job, but I didnt see doing random /shout for gil in town in there. Not the most viable of quickest way to make gil, but there's a sucker born every minute that will give gil to someone...

Would rate ^^ if I could hehe.

Rate up! You covered all the bases, and some I wouldn't have thought about if I were writing such a guide. This is something every new player would benefit from reading!

Excellent work!! Smiley: smile

Because making money is a huge part of the game, making it becomes something very important to do instead of the usual xp grind. While using good strategy and teamwork to kill monsters is great fun, it can get old too. Making money helps to give the game variety- if it's fun, that is.
This is a point that too many players overlook. Earning gil can be fun and, yes, it provides a welcome break from leveling.

I did the math recently ... I have about 30 cumulative days of playing in FFXI ... at least half of that time has been spent "bringing home the bacon" (the rest of the time leveling, questing, missions, LS events, etc.). I can honestly say that I've had fun every minute of those 15 days spent farming and crafting (except for the 20 minutes I tried fishing ... bah!Smiley: bah). It took me a while, but I found ways to earn gil that I enjoy.

Very good, I gave a rate-up, because it still gives you more credit even when it's at 5.00 ^_^. I would highly recommend posting this in Tradeskills as well, as things tend to get buried in here, and I am certain Popsi would add this to the Sticky for guide information.

Great collective work, and the humor is right on! Keep it up! ^_^

Bravo silalus. They should hand this post out to every new player, before they have a chance to become a whiner and post some idiotic thread here like it's the first time anyone's ever thought about the FFXI economy and how gil is gained.

I always find it funny when people can't figure out how to make money. I was in a party with a 57 THF who said he was always broke and couldn't figure out how to make money. His gear fully reflected this.

If I'm a SMN/WHM and I can make money, a THF the same level as me has NO EXCUSE.

I think a lot of people have the problem that they spend all their time levelling, which is minimally profitable at best, then their gear is always out of date and they're constantly struggling to update. Sure, hitting 75 will be awesome, but you'll need to slow down to make some money along the way or you'll never get there.

Good job, Definite rate uppers.

Wow! Great work.

You should consider adding a "Future:" category to each of these, explaining how a method of making money can increase over time. For example:

Crafting has a Very High future as your skill increases.

Mining has a Moderate future, since you can mine in better places as you gain levels.

BCNM40 has Zero future, in that the rewards you get from your first BCNM40 ever can be just as good or even better than your 50th BCNM40 battle.

Hero For Hire has a Very High future, in that a level 30 can't do much more than take small donations to hunt subjob items but a level 75 can solo the genkai 1 items with ease...level 50 players will pay more for a service than level 18 players.

Chocobo Digging has at least a Low future, as you do gain skillups.

Gardening has Zero future aside from becoming rich enough to afford Moghancement Gardening with "filled energy" and still have lots of pots. Well actually the future could be considered High if the user kept spending money on more and more gardening mules.

and so on :)

Umm, wow. O.o I was hoping for a positive response- but I wasn't expecting an overwhelming one! Thank you all very much for all of your positive comments and support.

I will definitely now maintain this document. I'm going to keep the intro in for one more "round" of comments, for anyone that might read it today but hasn't yet commented on it. For any of you that might have suggestions- please share them with me! I will try to incorporate them and I will certainly give credit.

After this one more round I'll see if perhaps we can get The Powers That Be to accept this into the guide section.

My response to a couple of specific suggestions:

Thank you! I really appreciate that and all the other nice stuff everyone said. And as far as the rate up even though it's already at 5.0- thanks for pointing that out. I certainly wouldn't object to folks continuing to hit that rate button...
<.<

As for the tradeskills forum, I don't want to repost it there because I'd like to keep comments on this one thread, but I will definitely post a link there. Great idea.

That is an excellent idea! I will do this shortly.

Very nice guide. Well thought out and organized. Rate up.

IfI may suggest: Have you thought of linking to guides for each career you have mentioned? As I understand it, there are several crafting guides on this board along with countless others.

This could really help out with the research aspect of the whole thing.

And, if it helps, feel free to link the Garrison guide in my sig.

Absolutely- I'd like to add that as an "appendix" to the end of the guide. I'll happily add that Garrison guide, and anyone else who can provide links both to threads here and good sites outside of Allakhazam, please do so!

This is definitely worth a sticky, very well thought out, and formatted!

I think that if this were made a sticky, then the amount of "how do I get gil" threads will decrease!

Excellent job!!!

Excellent guide! Definitely a rate up from me!

I do have one recommendation for an addition though...using Conquest Points. While certainly not a very fast way to make money, you can take all that hard fought xp time to turn a quick profit if you need to. And if you do the Expeditionary Force missions, you can potentially gain that CP even faster.

Thanks. And another fantastic idea, too! I will add that "career" at the same time I add the future item.

Please keep those suggestions coming all- I'll get them in here soon. :D
