Search Plugins for FirefoxFollow

Reposting this on the forums, since I imagine more folks look at these than the news replies. A few days ago I threw together some Firefox search plugins. They let you search the Allakhazam FFXI item and bestiary DBs from the search box in the upper right hand corner of the browser. Very handy.

[1/18 New] Added Quests/Missions search plugin for premium users.
[1/18 New] Added OpenMoogle recipe search plugin.
[1/18 New] Added FFXIPlayers.com gallery search plugin.

You can download them at:

Let me know what you think, and please rate up if you like it. ^_^

Simple, quick...nice. ^^

I've had search boxes on my homepage, but this is even better -- it makes use of the search box that is always there already.

Thanks!

-----

Edited for a suggestion: Use different icons for each search, so you can know at a glance which one is in the search box.

Good call numps, and thanks --- I've updated the icon on the items search. To get the new icon, you can either:

1. Delete cannotlinkto and ffxi_items.gif from your C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins folder, and reinstall from the website.

-or-

2. Save http://www.rolanberry-brigade.com/tools/ffxi_items.gif over the existing one in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins.

-or-

3. Wait until Firefox checks for a plugin update ... not sure how frequent it does that. :)

Thanks!

Really makes me wish I was a Premium member. I'm really considering purchasing a subscription just to help out the site I spent such immense amounts of time on. I probably spend more time on Allakhazam than I do playing FFXI. ^^;

Yeah, that was my logic behind it. Even if I didn't want the special features (which, really the Quest/Mission search and fancy forum stuff was all I was interested in), its still supporting a site that's really helped me out. Totally worth it in my book. Not to mention $9 a month, or $30 for a whole year (as I did), plus a free subscription to a mag. Can't beat it.

Just added a new OpenMoogle search. You know where to find it. ^^

Suddenly I have a busy searchbox! ^^

Thanks for the changed items gif (not as cute as the taru, but it does the job...and now I know where it is to change it myself if I want.)

I don't think there is an update for the search engine list -- it is a separate category from plugins or extensions.

I would suggest submitting them to Mozilla for their search engine list (Games category), but their search function to find something on the list does not seem to be working, so it wouldn't be terribly effective at the moment.

As you say, Premium Membership is so worthwhile! I looked into it originally to get rid of the ads. But since Firefox took care of that problem (there is even an extension to block Flash unless you specifically choose to play it) I signed up just to support Alla. The search functions, avatars, titles and the rest are just cute bonuses.

Heya again numps!

I did a little investigating and it turns out they do check for updates - once every 3 days, unless you define it differently in the code. Whether that will update only the .SRC file or the icon too I just don't know ^^

Way ahead of you on the mycroft submissions :D I even did a few from the Requests page (the lucy.allakhazam.com ones) just for the halibut. ^^

Thanks again numps

Good work all around, Qraenik.

I did notice a "terms=testing+test" in the <search> element of the mob search plugin, though. It's not causing a problem, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't supposed to be left in there. ;o)

If you use IE, go get Firefox right now. There are tons of great plugins, and tabs are so much better for browsing forums.

There are installation links on his page. When you click on them in Firefox the search parameters are added to your search box. It's that simple.

Firefox makes plugins and extensions very easy to add.

Does anyone know where I can get these plugins now? The Rolanberry Brigade site isn't up anymore. I've seen the main items search on the Firefox engines page, but not the bestiary and quest search engines.

Alternately, does anyone know a way to copy an engine installed on one pc to another? (i.e. which files to copy and where they live...)
