Hey I've had Catatombs installed, but really haven't gone there much. How is it for drops, gold, etc.? Any help is appreciated, I want to take my necro down there and farm when DF isn't open, but don't want to waste my time.

Hey Steven my tailor......:)

Well the little time I have had it I find....if youre by yourself you will encounter the following....everything grey if you enter through the easy entrances until you get to the portals and travel to places where things are your level....but then I find with my toon anyway...that it is too hard by yourself and you do need a group with you.

The "money" in catacombs is Aurialite, you get clusters of it in instanced dungeons in the catacombs, you can take the Aurilite to the armor merchants in the inconnu crypt and trade it for gear like DF, there are 5 of them and each one has gear for a 10 lvl range, 1-10, 11-20,20-30,30-40,40-50. The gear is interesting but its bonuses are for pve only, and most of the bonuses are reduction on negative effects (which is good because just about EVERYTHING will throw a dot, mezz, bleed, debuff or stunn on you)

There are several parts to Catacombs.

1) Taskmaster instanced dungeons (TIDs): See your level-appropriate taskmaster and he will send you to a nearby instanced dungeon to either clear it, kill a named mob, or kill number of particular mobs. In the 1-10 TIDs, you get regular tattered armor drops and coin. In the higher dungeons, I think you just get coin. No other drops. For soloers, except for the 1-10 TIDs, where the mobs are blue fading to green as you approach level 10, the mobs will be yellow fading to blue in the higher level TIDs. This is not risky enough for a lot of players who enjoy taking on orange cons and higher. You can "fool" the taskmaster by grouping to get the dungeon and then going in alone. This might get you higher level mobs, but it might also get you multiple mobs on a pull, so be careful using this strategy.

2) Adventure Wing instanced dungeons (AWIDs). These are available both in the new areas of Catacombs and there are two in each old world dungeon. These are keyed to groups, but you can go in solo if you're good at taking on multiple mobs. For instance, a level 15 can go in solo to an AWID keyed for a group of four level 10s. Most of the mobs will be green and blue to a soloer, and maybe the "boss" will be yellow. Only the boss will drop items. Otherwise, the drops are aurulite and coin.

3) A few normal hunting areas, mostly for high levels, I believe. Not sure if they are soloable. Not sure on drops, except for aurulite.

4) Most of the new quests are of the "mini" variety and the reward is usually coin and experience only.

In general, a higher level character can probably do better pharming, and classes that have a difficult time with yellow mobs might find soloing the TIDs difficult and the AWIDs impossible.

If you are a really "uber" necro, you will want to do a few instances to get enough Arulite to build your summon suit for the necro to add to the +con you are buy from the merchants down there.

Make a new post if you don;t know what a summon suit is so all can see.

For Taskmaster Instanced Dungeons the Taskmaster just gives you a task. He doesnt decide on the level of mobs you will find in the dungeon itself.

For example, if your grouped the group leader has to get the task. Then when each member of the group enters the dungeon you will see a message telling you the instance has been raised to account for the extra people.
