Valewalkers in RvR?Follow

#1 Jun 22 2006 at 1:14 PM Rating: Decent
Well my dad used to have a Valewalker, but both of us quit the game for awhile, and moved on to WoW. I came back, and remember that the Valewalker seemed like a pretty cool toon.

My dad never did that much RvR so I never goto to see the Valewalker in action. My question, are they any good in an RvR situation? Can they solo? Wanted in groups? Thanks.

Well, I have a minimal level RvR VW ... only 39 at the moment.

So far for me I love my VW in RvR. I only melee occasionally, as many of the 'assist train' groups go with other classes for various reasons.

When it comes to casting, I consider myself to be a very integral role to Hibernian RvR. For one thing, my insta-cast disease, have saved countless of Hibbies by timely interruptions of casters. In fact, I can frequently draw casters out to fire at me, and they think they have the drop, only to be interrupted and blasted by a chain of spells. If there is another hibby there to stun them, they usually die right where they thought they would be getting an easy kill.

You get to do many things as a VW outside of that. Some melee, and most importantly (coming from a pure meleer for years) you actually get to have quite a bit of fun on keep takes and sieges. To me, that makes it all worth it in RvR.

Unfortunately, with the resist rates on your baseline lifetap, you will rarely win a range damage battle against a good player with decent RA's (MoC and Quickcast) can turn the momentum just as quickly against you as the insta cast DoT gained it for you.

Maybe higher players can give an idea of the true big boy combat with high RR's going at it, but I see the lack of pure caster RA's as being a hindrance, and there are just much better choices for melee. But the diversity alone makes it enjoyable.

And for the fact that VW's have that life tap that does some nice dmg always helps too =)

Having played one in RVR through some of the patches and a little bit after Labyrinth of The Minotar, I still think that the valewalker is one of the most powerful tanks in the game. Depending on your spec, the valewalker can have excellent group utility for many various group setups, or, with buff pots/champ buffs, a great solo class.. The 50 scythe spec gives you a ridiculous amount of damage to put out. Couple that with the style procs, and I have seen in three swings a valewalker put out over 2000 damage. Not to mention the 90% aoe snare, which is a valuable tool in pulling tank trains off of your groupmates. The caster side to the class is very useful at times as well, with a fairly decent lifetap that hits for ok damage. The real usefullness of the castwalker spec comes into play for groups as well here, with the lifetap tied to a groupheal, insta disease, castable disease, dot and snare. Throw the RR5 group ablative in here, and you have one of the toughest classes in the game.

VW's are Hibernia's most underrated class imo.
