Scouts are pretty good if you know how ot use them, and if you have AT LEAST a decent temp. Pallys are also good, but once again you have to know how to use them in the context of rvr. Because anyone can tell you, rvr is very different than pve. So for your awnser, yes scouts are good. :)

Yup, scouts are made for RvR. They are a great support class for keep defence and offence. Very gimpy if you get caught in a melee battle since your longbow is your main spec weapon. A good scout temp makes for a good rvr scout. Arti's such as Fool's Bow (adds a siege dmg bonus at lvl 10), Braggart bow (summons longer range arrows to you inventory at lvl 10) are a must have for scouts in rvr.

Anyone have any input on what a good template would be?

Scouts are a great class to play in realm vs realm warfare, most usually run as a solo player or in a stealth group. There are several ways to spec a scout (sniper, melee or something in between the 2 extremes. One of the main things to do is find yourself a very good template which you can afford to make and can make it fun to play your scout.

a good place to read up on scout templates are the vn scout forum boards, lots of decent info there to read up on and learn from, many post their templates there for commentary and also for input into how to make it better. As for Paladin's, they are also a great toon to play in both rvr and pve. any way you spec a pally, is up to you, as you are the one will be playing it, so again do a little research and reading about them on the forum boards, find a template you might want to try and sally forth to conquer the enemies of the realm!

PS:

there is a big difference in play style between player vs environment and realm vs realm warfare, but it's just a difference of pacing. pve is less situational than rvr is, in rvr, things happen at a very rapid rate, and if you can't keep up with the action, you will find yourself dead rather quickly. rvr is definitely a learning experience, one that will get the blood pumping and can be exciting to watch and participate in, just don't beat yourself up, in the beginning, learn from your mistakes and have fun!

Good luck and good hunting!
