MMORPG Transition to DAoCFollow

#1 Dec 05 2007 at 5:26 PM Rating: Decent
I started off with Everquest back in the day when it was prety new and played for years. I ended up in the top guild on the server, and after month after month of 5 day/week raiding, got a little burnt out.

I took a break and started playing Battlefield 2 with some friends and loved it, until the hackers took over and killed the fun.

After some time in Iraq, I returned home and started WoW. Enjoyed it, sorta, but didn't have as good a time due to no real life friends playing, so dropped that as well.

I spent the next few months bouncing between Eve Online and Battlefield 2142.

When the launch of LoTRo came, I jumped all over it, hoping for a new time sink. It was at first, but like the Everquest days, leveled up really fast with a great group of people and joined the top kin on the server and ran the same few raids over and over. This soon became boring due to the lack of end game content.

Now I am looking to DAoC to satisfy my needs. To make a long post as short as possible, would it be worth the time? Do you feel the game has enough content to keep you occupied for a while? I am newly married, and will probably only be playing a few nights a week. Is it possible to remain competitive with only a few nights a week, or is this something that I will need to devote more time to?

Any useful feed back is greatly appriciated, good and bad so I can decide where to spend my free nights killing.

Well, first of all, for anything that's not hardcore, Gareth (classic) rule sets are your friend. Unless you're looking for PvE raids, in which case *definitely* go any server *other* then classic.

BUT! Unless the end game you're looking for is solely PvP, or at least a major part of the end game experience you want, don't go DAoC.

A few nights a week is definitely enough to devote to DAoC, but be prepared to find a good guild that will support you, because you aren't gonna go it alone very well.

Disclaimer: I has to ask my honey for his input, because he's the type of gamer you are, and I can't even begin to understand that min/maxxing type of game play!

I hope DAoC brings you much joy. It is my second fave MMO ever. Plus....RVR ROCKS

DAoC does very well in supplying end game content for RvR. Classic servers (Lamorak, Ector, Gareth) are best for getting to end game quicker without a lot of PvE to make you competitive. Killibury cluster of servers if you are looking for PvE end game content(This cluster has Trials of Atlantis, heavy end game PvE raids and content.) Classic servers will still supply you with end game PvE, just not as much. It is most popular because end game comes quicker. And end game is NOT boring. RvR is what makes DAoC the best. 3 realms. Non-instanced PvP. RvR seige warfare. Non-instanced battlegrounds tailored for each 5 levels while leveling up. Never dull, Always different. Definitely worth your time trying.

Yes. It is worth it. It has content to keep you going and going and going.

Come to Gaheris the care bear server to play all realms and explore all realms. Then you can start a toon on a rvr server if you want. Or be like us 'care bears' and just stay and play.

This is definetly a finished product with 5 years of expansions and bug fixing so you can play wihtout the hassels and no end in sight of the places to explore.
