I'm running my first real PVP character, a 44 Human Warlock. I was in an Alliance camp in a contested area when i got jumped and offed by a gnome mage a level or two higher. This sort of ticked me off, but I rely got p1$$ed off when i started to resurrect and noticed he was hanging around, presumably for another hit - on me. So I resurrected at a higher tower level and reset my minion and buffs, then I sent my minion out to camp passively near him. Then I told the minion to go aggressive, figuring to get a shot when he was engaged. Before I could uncork a spell, I was waxed again apparently by one or two of the Alliance guards.

Am I reading this right? Are camps safe zones even in contested territories? Will a NPC Alliance guard kill an Alliance player to protect a Horde player? Or did I just miss something? I'm still not all that comfortable with the speed of the game.

Anyway, the third time I just waited him out and when he left tried to stalk him but lost then tail. With any luck, next time I;l see him first (heheheheheheh).

hehe sorry, dude. Camping isn't much fun, I know. I'm not sure about that guard.

You missed something. Alliance guards will only attack Horde characters. Odds are there was a level 85 nearby who one-shotted you. Did you actually see the guards run up to you and kill you? Did you check your combat log to see where the damage came from?

I was in a tower controlled by Argent Crusade. It happened super quickly, but as I gave my voidwalker the order to go aggro, two humanoid-shaped streaks, a bit smaller than man-sized, came in from either side of the doorway, waxed me and split, all in the space of maybe a second. My combat log seemed to show that Argent Crusade guard(s) had dealt me overkill damage.

Thats what I based the question on.

Argent Crusade guards are not techincally Alliance, instead they are a neutral faction. In most cases neutral factions will not tolerate PvP in their camps and that most likely why they killed you.

I don't think it was a gnome mage that attacked you to begin with, since you said you were a human warlock there is no way another Alliance player could have attacked you.

Not an Alliance faction. Neutral guards will attack and kill you if you start fights.

Thanks - I didn't realize that there was a "third party". Just thought green was green - duh!.

And you're right. Not a gnome, bloody goblin.

While I,m on the subject, something else just happened. I was in a neutral camp, fully rested and mounted (dreadsteed). I decided to change minions from imp to voidwalker. And died. My combat log shows nothing about an attack. I scanned the area before releasing my spirit and saw nothing. Its like I died of a sudden stroke or something. Any ideas?

For instant-combat log-less death? None, sorry. Potentially a bug where summoning a minion is considered a threatening action, or possibly Deathwing flew by and burned you to a crisp. Either way you'd still have something. Even Deathwing's thing says "You were hit by Deathwing's Flamebreath. You died."

Yeah, back when the BE island with the raid in it came out a popular form of greifing was flagging and then standing on a quest NPC so that when someone inadvertently attacked the greifer while trying to right click the NPC the guards would gank them. Don't know if this was an intentional or accidental effect on your opponent's part but that's most likely what happened if it was NPCs who ganked you.
