Mass Effect PC crash.Follow

I've recently got into Mass Effect again, plugging away on the PC. Previously I had played it on the Xbox and through less than legal means on my old PC. I never had an issue with it.

But now on my new PC, if I select a dialog option before the conversation is complete the game has a pretty high chance of crashing. If I wait until the game cuts back to my character and waits for me, it never crashes. Seems a pretty common occurrence, judging from the google searches. But so far the only solution I can find is "wait". Which is ok... until I get into the game, and make a quick selection during a random unimportant NPC discussion without thinking, game crashes instantly, and I lose 30-50 minutes of playtime.

Just curious if any of you guys here have had the issue in the past, and a solution?

My previous play was on this same PC, but before the upgrades. I had Windows XP, 3GB of ram, and a Geforce 9800. Now I have Windows 7 64bit, 8GB of ram, and a Geforce 580.

Try setting it to run in Windows XP SP2 mode under the Compatibilty tab in the Properties menu for the game executable.

Edit: Also check "Run as Administrator".

Right click on the program Properties> Compatibility mode Vista SP 1 or Xp work? Otherwise try running the program with Admin rights (Some older games have this issue) Right click > Run as Admin, see if it still crashes.

Edit: Damn Shaow beat me to it

And he beat me to "Beating me to it" also -.- not my day.

Well, I found the executable, set it to Run As Admin, then the game refused to boot.

Turned it back off, it started just fine. But then I went to two different NPCs and selected every dialog option I could multiple times as soon as I could... and it never crashed. Not sure what to think. I'll have to watch it the next time I play.

Edit:
Mass Effect fails to launch if set to Run as Admin if Origin is not also set to Run as Admin. But so far regardless of settings I haven't been able to force a crash on Mass Effect... even though last weekend when I decided to spend a couple hours playing I lost half the playtime when I talked to an annoying NPC and wanted to say Goodbye right away. I had to remove my current physx drivers & install the ones that came with ME1 in order to play it at all on my PC. That was on an nVidia card, too.

This issue sounds terrible although I never had the same particular one. What I did have however was a graphical glitch in which textures would either go missing or turn solid blue. It has been a long while since I played though so my memory of how I fixed it is hazy. I believe I had to downgrade my Nvidia GTX 470's driver. I was going to reinstall my Mass Effect (from the disc) this weekend and try playing again, I'll let you know if I have any issues similar to yours.
