Cause all the anti-M$ Conspiracy Theorists out there wanted one without the Kinect cause they were afraid Bill Gates would be watching them ********** while playing Halo.

XBox One cost $100 more than PS4 (base models) because XOne had Kinect included. But rather than people seeing that as some value-added thing, they just saw an extra $100 price tag when picking a console. So Microsoft removed the Kinect to bring the system to technical & pricing parity with the PS4.

I wanted one without a Kinect because I'm not interested in voice or motion controls. I don't care who watches me ********** while playing Halo.

I'm probably going to break down and buy an X1 if the Halo 2: Anniversary multiplayer is done right.

I'll buy a PS4 when FF15 and/or KH3 comes out (Which ever first, I dunno release dates).
I'll buy a Vita around that time, or when Tales of Hearts R is released.
I'll buy a Wii U when the Xenoblades successor comes out (When ever that is, still don't follow release dates).

I'll buy a X1 when... not sure yet.

The Kinect was the really the stupidest thing MS could have done, it's that simple. They built their entire next gen console around what was essentially a paper weight. Sure, the original sold well, but was almost instantly rendered a dust collector. Only a couple of games used it properly, and those games didn't sell well. Some genius over at MS thought that if they forced it down the throats of everyone that bought an x-one, then maybe game devs wold start utilizing it. Except that most people don't want Kinect, don't need Kinect, and quite frankly, don't trust Kinect. MS was stuck with a console that cost a hundred dollars more than the more powerful PS4 because they didn't want to lose money on the camera. It was inevitable that they release a Kinectless x-one, it was just a matter of time.

Everyone wants Kinect, it just needs to work before people realize that. It's evident with Siri, Google Now, and Cortana, the voice controlled living room is something people will absolutely use. MS had to force it on people in order to get enough adopters for developers to develop games for it, and justify the continued development that is going into it. Unfortunately they've shot themselves in the foot once again by going after the immediate numbers and not sticking to their long-term plans.

Even if the theoretical support of what Kinect could offer is something a majority of consumers want, that doesn't mean the Kinect was a sound idea.

For one, there's a serious design issue with Kinect in the current market of cross-platform games. Devs aren't going to put too much energy into really utilizing the device, because there's no reason to. Not when it's not a peripheral the entire audience (or even a solid majority) will have. Even if the Eye offered a serviceable base level for them to offer support at, not enough PS users will own an Eye to make that worth it. So we're really only talking about console exclusives here... and console exclusives already have a lower potential market. Having to experiment with a new peripheral input system when you're already working with lower potential sales is not that attractive.

But then there's the fact that the Kinect ISN'T what people want, per se. Sure, having the ability to control things by voice isn't bad. More options is always nice. But I'm not desperate for it either.

I use Siri because there are times when manually doing what I need would be really annoying. But a huge part of that is the fact that my phone has a small screen, my input ability is minimal, and I'm often moving while doing it. None of these are factors with a gaming console right now.

And the rest of what would sell Kinect is the motion gaming aspect and, well, I'm sure that market COULD exist. But I don't think we're technologically at a place where it could have been a big selling feature this generation. Give it another decade, and I wouldn't be surprised. I'd be very surprised if it was this one for the non-casual markets.

If arcades had a resurgence on the backs of motion-controlled games, I think you could see a push for it in the home video game market. I know plenty of people who bought DDR mats for their consoles when it was huge for a while. I just don't think it will really take off on its own, though. At least not for a while.

Apparently, some number of PS3 PlayStation Now (game streaming service) closed beta codes have gone out. I'm somewhat optimistic. Obviously some twitch gameplay games won't work well since there is going to be some amount of input lag, but there are plenty of games I think will be acceptably playable.

If anyone was planning to pick up a 32GB WiiU, Groupon has refurbished ones for $200. It comes with NintendoLand.

Boo. No shipping to Canada. I'd actually buy one at that price point, mostly just for the expanded eshop/ability to play eshop games on the pad controller.

I'd offer to buy it for you but I just bought two for myself and my brother. How far from the U.S. border do you live? If it's close try shipping it to a local FedEx or UPS pickup location. If not do you have any family/friends in the States you trust?

I don't want it ENOUGH to go through that much trouble, but thanks for the ideas!

I figure eventually Ninty is going to have to start price slashing in order to get a bigger install base or they will have a devilish time getting 3rd party games. Considering I basically want it as a slightly more comfy/legal emulator, its not on my must have now list.

And, I just looked at the games they have in the actual Wii U shop and it's sort of sad. I don't understand nintendo. Just put them all in the wii U shop, don't trickle them out.

I abused the hell out of some big deal purchases online for Xbox Live Microsoft Points a year or so ago. They were permanent when they were Points, but they just got rid of Points and went to a real money wallet. Of course being the jerks they are, they put an expiration date on the wallet. Now I have 21 dollars sitting in my Xbox Live wallet with an expiration date, (dumbasses...) and need to find something of value to spend it on.

Dark Souls 2 for $38.99 is a really good deal considering how recently it came out. While it's fairly common for PC games to drop to that range quickly enough, it's often not the case on console. That's the kind of discount sale that will help push the digital distribution on consoles. It's still $60 new and $55 used at GameStop.
