I saw that, I laughed.

SE's PR/marketing divisions really suck. It's like they forget that the internet is a thing.

If I had a PS4... I'd probably buy it.

Also, with the release of FFXIII-2 on the PC Thursday, they are patching FFXIII to add in higher resolutions (1080p) and graphical setting options. In case the low resolution was a reason why anyone here didn't buy it (Doubtful, but the hatred for it being only 720p was very vocal on the interwebs).

But... why?

And I don't mean that in a "why replay the same game?" way. I mean that in the "playing a game that old on an HDTV sounds like an absolutely terrible idea" way.

If they had remade it, I'd have considered it. I get playing it on a PC, since you can window it to a more palatable resolution. But on a TV?

Because I have more money that I currently need (I'm not rich, by any means, but my income definitely out paces my expenses) and I have poor impulse control when it comes to purchasing games. Personally I think it may be because I grew up poor and was not able to get the games I wanted as a kid.

But, they have announced the price at $15.99. I probably am not going to buy it unless it's on sale.

As for the non-HD on an HDTV... I've played the PC version from Steam on my HDTV in my Livingroom. I guess I have a tolerance for low resolutions and fps.

I don't get why they do this. Sure it's less work than remaking it. But I'd wager many more people would buy a full-prized HD remake than this for 15 or 16 bucks.

Also, with a remake they would have pissed off way less people.

Minimum investment with a guaranteed payout from a zombie-like fanbase. That's almost entirely profit.

SE has released many old games ported to new systems over the last two or three years and the majority of them are reasonably priced. I think the price of FF7 on the PS4 reflect more than just a desire to shove their ***** into the asses of their customers.

So...
Did Square Enix troll us?

No source yet, but Siliconera's not really known for fake news. We'll see what happens.

It would no longer surprise me if large corporations had a handful of people sitting around, thinking and posting things on webpages and then tracking social media reactions to them.

Well, it's confirmed. And it looks pretty. Advent children pretty. Much like the Siliconera article mentioned.

The trailer makes it sound like a sequel almost. But it says Remake. I think it's because while I expect the trailer to discuss the story of the game, it's actually discussing the story of FF7 itself and all it's iterations over the years, being ported over to various platforms.

I'm curious how much will change, and how long it will take. If KH3 and FFXIII-VersusXV is anything to go by, we _might_ see it before the end of the decade.

They always said that they wouldn't remake VII until they'd made a game that topped it.

We were joking in the XIV forums that maybe ARR was finally that game. Smiley: lol

More likely, ARR's success showed that SE can rebuild a game and it'll be okay, and they've got the cash to throw at the project finally thank to XIV ARR doing so well.

I don't think it'll get GTA V's billion dollars on release day, but it might be the closest game SE ever gets to that.

It's coming first to Playstation 4, so PS4 is still a 400$ Bloodborne machine!

Eh, if that were the case they've had free money to throw at projects coming in from 11 for the better part of a decade. Wasn't there just an article about how for the purposes of reporting they were ignoring the negative cost associated with 14v1? I'd say it was more likely that they've been keeping 7 in their pocket until they needed a cash infusion since it's basically a game they can instantly sell to a massive base with no worry. Which, to me, says that they're either about to embark on a costly project in need of that money or the hit to their pachinko market was more painful than reported.

Though I am pessimistic and wary as hell of Square, so I could just be bitterly curmudgeon towards them.

I'll buy the remake for PC, if only so I can play it in the future.
