My card is okay (Radeon 7950 3GB) but my processor is technically below minimum (i7-860 OC'd to 3.6 GHz). I'm not especially worried about not being able to play but I bought the game for cheap off some Russians so if worst came to worst I'd just have to backlog it until I upgraded.

At medium-high settings and 1600x1050 resolution, I get 40-50fps with a few dips. Controls feel a little wonky but I might just need to get used to them. Had to lower my mouse sensitivity to 75% though because it was twitchy as hell.

I had to lower the settings to high to get a decent frame rate, but I knew I'd have to do that anyway. My card is finally starting to show it's age, but it's still fairly capable. Even with the lowered settings the game looks damn good. I'm playing with a controller and the controls are a bit twitchy that way too. It's nothing I won't be able to get used to, but for now, it's a bit annoying running right passed things. So far, I've gotten to the first little village and started on some side quests. I've got my eye on a new body armor once I hit level two, which shouldn't take too much longer.

I concur playing at high with just a few dips, but feel like I am fighting the camera somewhat with controller. I'm still trying to finish my Kotor run so I just played long enough to get past the tutorial. Looks purty so far, I plan to dig in more soon.

I've overrun every herb so far, I think. Chests are easier since their boxiness actually stops you whereas you run through the bushes. Plus the "E" (action) prompt shows up before you can actually activate it.

I'm at about the same spot. Hit town then ran a side quest and then just wandered off looking for stuff to kill. Found a cellar full of loot and managed to get a new sword and some gloves. Sort of slow getting started though and all the crafting stuff looks a bit daunting.

Killed the Griffin, found Yennifer, took a bath. Griffin fight was fun as hell. Just remember, Quen is your friend.

I fell off a platform when racing Ciri in the tutorial and died from falling damage Smiley: laugh A quick end to my Witchering career!

Hey, if I'm like world renown and presumably killed all manner of beasts in W1 & W2, how come I'm level 1 and unable to handle a couple dogs without bitten half to death?

Massive orgy the night before, if I understand Witcher correctly.

Yeah that is a logic problem for RPG's that stick with the same character. Reset to level 1. "You want me to show you the basics? *cough for Ciri of course." Maybe he takes long breaks and gets out of shape hanging out at the local tavern and wenchery in between episodes.

Now that would be funny for an RPG to do. Just make your character look kinda sloppy and doughy when you start but he eventually gets back into fighting form around level 5-10 ish.

Abandoned?

When I first tried to visit the site when I got my email it came up with an error, but when I got home it worked. I only assumed it was hammered when I first tried due to it just being advertised.

Did a couple side quests. Roamed the land. Collected many loots found places of power and even defeated level 5 Deserter Leaders. Still Level 1 (barely). Guess I should do the contract and main quest to get some more XP. But I did have fun being free to roam and check out ? marks. I'm also getting the combat back. Quen up, Hold parry or time it. Doge around, smack the doge out of stuff and Igni it because why not, everyone likes fire.

Had a lot of fun tonight looking forward to the holiday weekend for some day long rawr.

Start exploring those question marks on the map. The ones that lead to Places of Power will grant you a temporary stat boost, and more importantly, an ability point. With enough exploring you can have a level one character with several abilities maxed out.

Yup doing that. Did all the secondary quests in town except the contract. (Should do that next) Even found some scavenger hunts and additional secondary quests. I had some house work to do tonight so don't think of it as me thinking the game is moving too slow. I was basically doing a quest or ? mark then tooling around the house getting some stuff done in between. I'm really enjoying it so far. Especially since I turned off depth of field and chromatic aberration.

I always feel like I should give those fake blurs a chance. Maybe they have gotten better. But your eyes don't work like that IRL. If something is off in the distance and you focus on it, well then it becomes clearer. With fake depth of field it stays blurry forever until you get close. I guess that matches the experience of a nearsighted person, but I pretty much hate it in video games.

I mentioned this before but hey you post on a site for 15 years you tell the same stories, after a while. ;)

Also falling off cliffs is real people. I can totally make that... "Reload from nearest save?"

Completed White Orchard. Did all marks, secondary quests etc. Crafted the most excellent Serpent Silver Sword, did not have the means to do the Steel version yet but have an adequate steel sword as well. Upgraded my Witcher armor. Have all potions, bombs, oils, etc from the early area. Killed up the Griffon. Level 4. Focusing on Fast Sword and spells, especially fond of Igni.

Got a bath and a shave. ;)

I think they tried to model inertia on Geralt. I am getting used to the concept and fighting well, dodging parrying and blocking in this system are coming around to me. Really did not have to much trouble in White Orchard over all. Looking forward to more over my holiday weekend after work tomorrow night.

I almost finished up White Orchard. I hit a glitched quest, and I'm still trying to find the key to open that damn chest in the basement of the hut by the wind mill. Except for that I'm done with the area for now. I was able to do both Serpent swords, and they've made a strong impact on my fighting. I've fully upgraded fast attack, and have two points each in strong attack and battle trance. My style is to pop Quen and just wade in, so I'm focusing mainly on melee skills for now. I probably won't be playing much more until the weekend. I haven't slept much this week and I'm really starting to feel it...

As a side note, is anyone else amused/disgusted by the whiny ******* on the internet crying because the game doesn't look as good as the trailer from 2013?

I'm playing it at medium-high settings and getting about 50+ fps on average now that I disabled Depth of Field (which I usually think looks fake anyway). So I guess I don't care much if the 2013 trailer matches Super Zesty Ultra Mode 'cause I ain't playing that anyway. I'm completely happy with how it looks. That's with an AMD card too so I'm sure if I was using an Nvidia card, I'd be getting frame rates of a hundred thousand fps.

I've heard of other people having trouble because they hit a quest objective before taking on the quest and then the quest gets bugged. I already found the windmill treasure via wandering and opened the unlocked boxes so I'm sure when I take the quest now, it'll be glitched.

Sooo, for the people who have been playing it, how does it compare with Witchers 1 and 2? I tried playing both but I found that they suffered from a pacing issue where everything moved extremely slowly. Is 3 better paced?

I haven't played 1 & 2 but 3 so far is pretty slow out of the gate compared to open world fantasy games like Skyrim or DA:I. I haven't played much yet, partially because I have yet to get hooked but I think it has potential. I'll spend more time with it this weekend and see what I think.

If I'd paid full price I'd probably be disappointed. Not because I think it's a bad game but because it feels like a pretty standard fantasy game so far and that's not $60 worth of amazing to me.
