Can I run FFXIV?Follow

#1 Jun 10 2011 at 1:50 PM Rating: Decent
I really want FFXIV (I've read all about the good and the bad, I'm okay with it) and I'm either going to try to upgrade my pc or wait for the ps3 version to come out, though I would rather play it now.

I have windows xp, an Intel® Core™ 2 Duo (2.33 GHz,) 2 gigs of memory, direct x9, and a NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400 series with 512 MB.

That's on SE's site as the minimum powered rig requirements except for the graphics card, which says I need to have a NVIDIA® GeForce® 9600 series with 512 MB or better. I've got the 8400 I think.

When i run the benchmark i'm getting a ratting of 1000. That's terrible, the standard is 2500+. If I got a new graphics card, would it put me where i need to be? Or is my computer just all around too old? Should I wait for the ps3?

If your benchmark score was that low, I'm guessing that a new GPU might JUST bring you to the playable level (if you actually get that far).

You also really need to get more RAM. I'm guessing you are using 32 bit Windows, so you're capped at 4GB, which is unfortunate.

Your processor is also nearing the end of its gaming life.

Will a new GPU be enough, with more Ram? Maybe. If you would be building the new rig, you can always buy the card and see how it goes. Because you can always still use it in the new pc if you need to.

more ram and a better video card will make it playable. A new system would be a major upgrade over what you have, but not strictly necessary. You may also be able to find a higher end core 2 duo processor cheap if you are willing to swap that out. something in a3.4Ghz quad core would be nice.

Short answer, no. If it does load, it won't be playable. Unless they have seriously optimized it since launch, a memory and GPU upgrade won't cut it either. XIV was brutal on CPUs.
