I'm just wondering if anyone here knows how to/is there a way to take the audio from an Xbox, pass it through a PC, and have it come out my headset. I ask because Xbox chat quality is terribad, so I'd like to be able to use Skype while still hearing in game sound.

Depends on the sound card you have. Xbox has a line out. if you have a sound card that has a line in port (different than a microphone port, though there are ways to make that work too) you basically attach it as a line in device. If you don't have a line in, you can try the mic in, but you may need a decible attenuator to make it work.

I'm using onboard sound on the ASRock Z77 Extreme 4, which I'm about 90% sure has a line in, without looking to double check. I'm picking up one of these tomorrow, I don't think I need anything else.

Yep, that should do the trick.
