As the title emplies, which of the three next-gen consoles (PS2, X-Box, and Game Cube) do you think is the best, and how would you rate them. My personal vote goes for X-Box because, as far as I can tell, it has superior graphics and sound, along with a GREAT aresenal of games, both past (Halo, Unreal Championship, etc...), present (Full Spectrum Warrior, Splinter Cell: PT, etc....) and possibly the brightest future (DOOM 3!! HALF-LIFE 2!!!! AND THE BEST OF THEM ALL!!! HHHHAAAAALLLLLOOOOOOO TTTTWWWWWOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Anyways, what do you guys think?

Here is my little chart:
X-box, because it has best graphics and sound, along with great FPSs (Halo, UC), Stealth Games (Splinter Cell), and Sims (Rainbow Six 3 and FSW)
PS2, because it has GRAND THEFT AUTO!!! GRAND THEFT AUTO!!! WOOOOOOTTTTTT
And then GC.... becuase I hate Nintendo :P

I own a GC and an XBox. Lately the XBox has been getting the most love but the GC is fun just for the 4-player party games. PS2 doesn't even rate in my book.

i personally think the xbox is the best. it came with a hardrive and didn't have to buy it seperate cuz of course it's made by microsoft. it also has the best games i think. plus my ps2 just kinda stopped operating good after a few years and gamecube just isn't that much fun nemore.

Ok, I know this is supposed to be a non-gaming forum, but Halo sucked big time. It's a FPS on a console, which isn't EVER supposed to happen. It was a horrible game, with horrible controls. Vehicles? I've been using those since Tribes. It's nothing new or innovative. The only difference between it and the rest of the FPS out there is it's not set in WWII. It was even worse on the PC.

So what's Halo 2 going to be like? More of the same inane crap they force down your throat because the media says you must like it. Pick up a real game and drop Halo and you will never go back.

X-Box lacks good RPGs. Best I can think of is Morrowind (Which is a rather good game IMO).

A friend of mine told me to look into the game Fable for Xbox (not released yet). Supposedly, it is going to be a very innovative RPG where every decision you make effects not only the story line, but your character's skills later in the game. Check it out and report your findings back here.

I've pre-ordered Sudeki and Fable for my XBOX because they seem to be the first true RPG's for the XBOX. Fable looks sweet as hell, and Sudeki isn't looking to bad either.

Yea, both Sudeki and Fable look like they will be great games. Xbox does fall short (IMO) when it comes to great games and selection. I think PS2 is probably the best, because of the selection, and also because of sales numbers. I mean, neither the GC or the Xbox can touch the PS2 in sales. That, in and of itself, should give you a hint as to the "best" console.

so... by your logic, a Ford Tempo is a better car than a Rolls Royce? Cause you know, more Tempos were sold than Silver Clouds.

PS2 is number one in sales for a ton of reasons... It was out first, it's based off of a great system that was around for awile, The Japanese haven't warmed to the Xbox (either for size, price, xenophobia, whatever...), and has a killer library of games.

I've owned every system, and based on the strength of the console alone, I have to go Xbox. And no slight to the PS2 which I also enjoy, but the Dreamcast was almost as good as the PS2. Who knows what may have been had the launch games not sucked for that system.

PS> Fable, Halo 2, the new Doom and Half Life, Knights of the Old Republic 2, Jade Empire... The Xbox is making headway into the "great game" list.

Morrowind was a great game, with the exception of the load times. God forbid you had to restart the game for some reason.

Also, Don't forget "Knights of the Old Republic". Great RPG, might've been the best I've ever played.

We've got Fable on pre-order for our X-Box from our local Gamestop. My wife has been following its development more closely than I have, but hey, anything to encourage gaming in my house is a good thing.

Ok, fine, let me rephrase. The PS2 is the "best" system for most gamers. With more games to choose from, it is the best choice for most people, because it has a better chance of pleasing most people than the Xbox does. I believe that the system is only as good as it's games, and since the PS2 has more "great" games than the Xbox, I believe that qualifies it as better.

Yes. For most people, a Ford Tempo would be better. Cheaper, probably more fuel efficient, easier to find replacement parts for, and cheaper to have repaired. Yes, better for the average consumer.

I think they all have their strengths and weaknesses. Possibly explaining why most people own one of each. ^^

It also has like 3 years on the XBOX to get those games.
I used to think like that, in fact I swore I would never own an XBOX. Now my PS2 is sitting in a little pile of dust in the entertainment center because I never touch it. (Well, not true, I just bought the .Hack games and been playing them, but that's the first time in 3 or 4 months i've turned it on.)

Why? XBOX may not have the game selection, but what it lacks in numbers, it makes up for in quality. I really haven't seen a bad XBOX game (except for Halo, IMHO), whereas the PS2 has plenty of mediocre or just plain awful games on it.

MS is kind doing what Nintendo did in the late 80's early 90's with its games, you have to pass a certain criteria to get the "Official Logo" to put on the box, which makes for better quality games. Sony doesn't have anything like that for the PS2.

Ok, but that doesn't change the fact that it has more games to choose from.

Ok so there are a few, but trust me, the PS2 has a TON more bad games... why? IT'S BEEN OUT LONGER. Of course it's going to have a better game selection. Geez..

Therefore, for most consumers, it is the better buy. Agreed?

When I went looking for a console (back 2 years ago) I had to go with the games I like to play....I really like RPG's and action adventure games...I like first person shooters but they tend to bore me after a few hours or after about 15 when I beat the game...P. vs P. would be my only reason to really play one. With all this in mind I had to go with the PS2. X Box and Game Cube were not options for me with the game selection they had......(little back ground history for ya)
When I was a little kid I had a Sega and a nintendo....Sage was such the better system when it came to game design and graphics...but it didn't have the launch titles that Nintendo had...Nintendo had an army of game designers pumping out titles faster than an Irishman going though a bottle of whiskey. Then there was the two hand helds they came out with....Sage's Game gear was the best hand held I've seen till the Game boy advanced came out...But here agian Nintendo's crappy game boy beats sega into the ground with a slew of well known launch titles for it's P.O.S., Black-and-White, nonlighting-up-screen game boy..(I loved playing the nintendo games but I hated the company so much. I wish I could have taken all the titles fro nintendo and played them on Sega)

.....This is what I think Sony is doing now...They've got the developers pumping out game after game (FF X2 was a peice of trash) of Hot titles because people will buy them just because of the name. It's a love hate relationship I have for sony..I hate them for what they are doing...but I still like a lot of their titles better then the ones for X Box even though I know X Box is a much better system. As for Nintendo...I don't think they can hold their own for much longer...The knew Zelda game is going to be the only thing to really saves their ***.

okay, I looked at the title of the tread again...

...yep, still asks which CONSOLE is better.

If you'd like, you can start a separate title asking who has the better library, or best av cables... hell, go nuts, who has the best placement of the "void of warranty" sticker?

Qualifiers aside, which is the better console?

And I gotta love the qualifiers on the Rolls/Tempo side track... you could explain how you feel the Tempo is a better car with pie charts and power point displays, dope me up with the medication of your choice, and I'll still fail to see any argument on how the Tempo is a superior auto. I didn't ask to meet anyone's budget, simply asked the better car.

I still say the XBOX is a better console for most gamers. Heres why.

  • Native 5.1 Surround Sound.
  • XBOX Live with content downloads, online ladders, etc for like $3-4 a month.
  • EA Sports is now on XBOX Live, no way im buying Madden for the PS2 this year just so I can play online.
  • Better quality graphics in general for the games.
  • The Hard Drive is built in, and you can copy music to it, and play it using your 5.1 Surround Sound set up. It also means no more memory cards.
  • The controller cords are longer.
  • The controller itself seems to feel better than the PS2 controller. (Don't even get me started on the GC controller).
  • The DVD player on the XBOX seems more functional than the PS2 one, HOWEVER, you do still have to spend and extra $30 for the remote and the little plug in order to even watch a DVD on it.
  • 4 controller ports standard.
  • Built in ethernet port.
