So i heard that the director cut is coming on the 23rd for limited release and i go and pick up the movie to watch it again just to have it fresh in my mind.

Anyways just thought i would mine the wasteland that is the sandbox for any thoughts, opinions, anything about the movie. You know, just see what others thought of it maybe get a fresh or different perspective.

I really liked the movie, the workings of a human mind are often strange and disturbing. The whole airplane thing was pretty cool though, the way the bunny plays a part in the whole movie was a twist for me.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to the Director's Cut.

I only saw the original on DVD, and while I must admit that I was a little confused upon initial viewing, the movie really stuck with me...VERY unique and VERY original.

I downloaded it over the course of a few days...

I listen to it sometimes while I play FFXI.

I love any film like this one that requires you to think to pick up on the storyline. It's like mining, and suddenly you find a nice chunk of Adamantium =p.

I thought it was a fantastic movie, really explores a lot of things about the mind, time, space and the point of life. Just a warning, don't listen to the director commentary on the DVD, it is waaaayyyy too specific, and I guarantee you that the director had a totally different idea of what was going on than you did. It actually kind of ruins it to know what he was thinking, and I'm a bit worried about the director's cut changing the movie too much to match the bizarre things he's trying to say. That being said, I'll see the director's cut anyway...

So rather than being educated as to the correct interpretation of events in an admittedly bizarre and nearly incoherent film, you would rather keep your own beliefs, however wrong they are?

Jesus: "That's not what I meant when I said an eye for an eye."
You: "Whatever, I'm stabbing this sumbitch."

There are intentions when it comes to creating art, but there is no such thing as a "correct interpretation" when it comes to viewing art.

IT was originially intentionally ambigous, but when something becomes a cult hit, the creator feels the need to try and explain the ambiguity away and show some sort of gneius visions.

Which was pointless and stupid.

It's much better watched as a movie about Donnie's descent into schitzophrenia.

Smiley: laugh Okay, I'm not wont to do this, but RACK Ditiris for this one!

My favorite director commentaries are by John Waters. Too funny.

There's dispute over if Tolkien ever said it, so they generalized it.

Donnie Darko was very good, enjoyed the story, the character development was well done for the most part. Beliveable family, and friends.
I really felt the music was well chosen and well used. It underscored the 80's feeling, and also added depth and forshadowing to the scenes.

They've been showing it on cable lately. Either on one of the HBO channels or IFC, I can't remember which.

Borrowed the DVD from a friend and saw it last week for the first time. Great movie. The deleted scenes explain the movie much better. I don't even remember this movie coming out in the indie/arthouse theatres.

Be sure to check out the DVD - well worth it for the deleted scenes. The remake of "Mad World" brought tears to my eyes the first time I heard it.

Ahh, that movie. I think at the request of a friend that I just took a whole weekend to sit down and watch the movie, as well as absorb all of it. The great thing about this movie is the fact that you can interpret it in whatever way that you want to. I have had heard people say that it is about time travel, physics, parallel universes and tangent universes, dreaming, and seeing the future.

The best thing to do is go to the movie's website and check it out, they have an actual copy of the fake book, "The Philosophy of Time Travel". It makes more sense of the movie, whether or not the director intened it that way.

The best interpretation that I have read and/or heard is on this website, I recommend you check it out if you liked the movie:
