Woke up to jets flying outside my window and my roomate who was visiting Boston was calling. He said we had been attacked and to NOT go into work in downtown SF. I got drunk at a local bar that opened at 12pm just for that day....we watched the news in the bar.

Met some dude there with pot...went to his house (which was Janis Joplin's old place) and got stoned and played acoustics. Afterwards, he ****** me in the ***. Then I spooned with him.

Kind of an odd day. But queerly fun.

Fixed that for you.

It was Tuesday, not Monday. Aaron and I arrived at the Kansas City Airport around 6:30 am for a business trip to Atlanta. Our flight left MCI headed to Atlanta at 7:30 am we were on Midwest Express, the first time that either one of us flew the airline. During the flight we had omelettes for breakfast and Aaron had a glass of champagne that is complimentary on the airline. Toward the end of the flight the captain came over the intercom to let everyone know that due to increased flight traffic that our landing would be delayed upto 45 minutes. 30 minutes later we landed at Hartfield still unaware that the world had changed while we where in the air.

I have travelled into Hartfield on numerous occassions before and there was always a hustle and bustle and lots of noise when we departed the plane, but for some reason the airport was a lot quieter. As we customarily did when getting to our destination city I called into my boss to let him know that we landed safely. My boss asked me if I had heard what happened and I said no. He told me that a plane had flown into the world trade center and thousands of people are dead. My boss is known for playing practical jokes and I told him that **** was not funny. He said he wasn't joking. I hung up on him. Aaron in the mean time is going through the pages on his pager. I decided to call Hector and tell him we would be at his site in time to go to lunch. Hector asked if I heard the news about the twin towers and told him the **** was not funny. He said no man, this **** is real. About that time we had walked half way down the concourse and I looked up to see that all the flights had been cancelled. The only words out of my mouth where "Oh my f#cking God!". Aaron had turned five shades whiter and he was listening to his voice mail as he told me what all his messages where. Everyone in the office and at our houses where trying to get a hold of us.

We both called our families and let them know that we where ok.

The next 3 hours getting out of the airport and the rest of the day are another story for another time as well as the 2 day drive home, with out a plane in the sky.

Well. Being on the West coast, the whole thing was basically over before I got up. I remember heading to work and turning on the radio. There was something odd though. Usually I tune out any talking (or just switch to a station with music), but the tone of the voices was just different. In typical fashion though, they were talking about rescue efforts, and the "impact" of the event, but in the 30 seconds or so it took me to pull out of my driveway and start out on the main street, I still had no idea *what* had happened.

My pager gets automatic news updates though, and this sounded pretty major, so I checked it and saw the message about the WTC towers and the Pentagon. By the time I got to work, I'd gotten pretty complete info on the radio about what had happened. Spent pretty much the rest of the day chatting on the boards here about it, and looking up news sites (didn't get a lot of actual work done of course!).

Didn't actually see any footage of the events until I got home. I don't remember what I was thinking that day in terms of drafts and wars and whatnot. That first day, pretty much no one knew who had done it yet. Bin Laden was the likely suspect, but I don't recall if they'd taken responsibility for it yet or not. I do remember that for the first few days there was very little finger pointing and blaming going on. That happened later. Too much shock I guess.

I was sitting at home eating breakfest when my sister called and was sorta paniced and told me to turn on the TV. I was only in the 7th grade and i didnt really know much about New York or the towers but after my parents talked to me about it, i was horrified.

I was in the Army when it happened. We had just finished our PT (physical training) for the morning so I was in my room getting washed up and getting dressed for the day ahead. I had neither a TV or a raido in my room so it was after 9 am mountian time that I heard about anything. First thing I heard about was the plane that crashed in the field, but I didn't hear anything about it being hijacked. Then I was talking to some buddies and they said about the Pentagon getting hit by a plane and the two World Trade Towers being hit. I remember laughing and telling them that they were full of it, like who would fall for such a stupid joke. Of course as I heard about it from more and more people it started to sink in. I didn't see anything on the TV or hear anything on the raido until about 10:30 am.

At the time I was working in New Mexico doing Directory Assistance, i.e. 411 or information, I happened to have tuesdays and wednesdays off. I haven't owned a TV in 10 years but my ex dropped hers off a week before because she didn't have the room. I woke up at 7am, 9am est and turned on the TV. (Something I haven't done in a decade) and saw the news showing the first plane hitting. Then I watched it until the day ended. I remember thinking, aside of how stunning it was and how unbelievable it was, that I can imagine how busy the lines must be at work due to east coast traffic.

I was at school at the time. When the principal came over the intercom he told us of what had happened as best as he could without breaking dwon in tears. We turned on the news and sat in awe watching the buildings collapse one after another. I ran out of the room frantically calling my parents cause I heard that other targets would be that of financial institutions, news groups, and major airports such as atlantas (busiest in the US). My mother works at the airport and she was already on her way home and we met there.

I was in my powerpoint class sleeping when a friend woke me up and pointed to the tv. At first we thought that someone in air traffic control had fscked up big time. Then class was dismissed, and I went to my economics class. We didn't have much of a class, just sat there watching the tv as the teacher called his relatives because a few of them worked in the towers. It was eerie. I saw the whole thing for the most part, from beginning to end, on tv.

I was away at Culinary School in San Francisco. I was late for class and went running out of the dorms. The TV in the lounge was on and all I saw was what appeared to be a building on fire. Little did I know it was the first of the World Trade Center towers after it was hit.

When I got to class a couple classmates were in tears and the whole room had a very somber feeling. I was shocked when I finally found out what had happened from a classmate. The Chef came in shortly after and told us that he would not be holding class that day.

Several classmates and I went back to my dorm room and started to watch the news. They were forced to stay in the city because the bridges out of the city had been closed due to the possible threat on the bridges. We saw the collapse of the the two towers and just sat there in complete and total disbelief. After they repeated the plane hitting the building for like the hundredth time we couldnt bear to watch anymore. We went down to the Bar and had a few pints and talked about what had happened. It was definetly something I will never forget.

Like Tarv, I was still living in the UK on 9/11. I had just gotten back from a morning lecture (still in college at the time) and flicked on the TV to see the news coverage on every channel. But for me, it wasn't the towers that scared me most.

When they announced the plane that had been crashed by the passengers overpowering the terrorists and forcing it down, I began to wonder how many other planes there would be, and where the next would hit.

At the time, as I said, I was still in the UK while my wife (fiancee at the time) was here in CA. Fear, paranoia, irrationality, whatever you want to call it, I was terrified at that point. Simply because of the possibility that something might have happened to her too. I spent the next few hours frantically trying to call her, with no success. The wave of pure relief that swept over me when I was finally able to get through was astonishing.

More than anything, it was the fear that something could have happened to her and my feeling of helplesness that stand out for me when I think back to 9/11.

I was in the US Army going through AIT in Redstone ******* on 9/11.

I was sitting in class when my instructor just said, "Looks like we're going to war."

30 minutes later we were in formation and being briefed on the situation, got the rest of the day off to call our families and let them know we were ok. It was pretty surreal, we didn't see the images of it until later that night and the next day.

For a few months after that, the whole base was on total lockdown and we were doing just as much gaurd duty as we were training.

I never really realized what kind of commitment I had made by joining the Army until that moment.

I was at sitting in the dentist's chair getting a filling for a cavity that morning, and when news of the first plane hitting the tower came in, the dentist turned on the radio and started listening while she drilled. Her hands were shaking so much I don't see how she avoided accidentally drilling a hole in my cheek.

I was in my comp and lit class at high school, it was around 9'ish in the morning. The teacher said that there had been terrorist attacks in NYC and the pentagon had been hit as well. He pulled the television into the room, turned it to CNN and began commenting on what had transpired. Being the callous person that I was at the time, I recall thinking to myself, "Damn, what a bad day not to call in sick to work." Then, I fell asleep.

I was playing football.

On my way home from PT, I was listening to the radio, getting annoyed because I thought they were talking about old news...then I realised they weren't. I called my husband (who was home on leave with our daughter) and asked him what he was watching. "Clifford the Big Red Dog" I say, "Turn on the news...NOW" (silence) "OMG" I knew this was bad...and I pulled up to the house.

I forgot to take a shower...I sat on the floor in front of the TV with my husband's arms around me in shock. Our daughter kept asking "Why did the plane crash into the building?" We had no answers for her...we did not know either. I called my mom. My godfather works in the Pentagon and we had just watched the plane hit it. We cried together.

I finally got up (0845 mst) and jumped in my BDU's. Hugged my husband and daughter and left to drive the 5 minutes back to the post I was stationed at. I got to work 6 hours later. We were locked down until 8pm that night (the post), with my entire unit in our battalion area. I have never heard such silence from such a large group of people. Barely a whisper. We accounted for every soldier, either by face or voice, for many were on leave.

I remembered that night the fun and excitement of the previous week, when we had attended Castle Ball. We danced, we drank, we toasted. We never thought, a mere 4 days later...

I woke up late because I was like ********** work" but then decided I really needed to go so I call into my office (I lived and worked in DC at the time) to tell them I was running late. No one answered so I was like, "Well I guess everyones late." So then I turn on the news and hear a report about the plane crashing into the tower. And as I'm watching it the second plane hit. Sat there just starring at the tv and thinking about people I knew in NY. Went to call one of my girls up there. She was ok, she was in Jersey at the time. Came back to the TV and they said that the Pentagon was hit too and government offices had been evacuated. Spent the rest of the day just watching and ilistening to the madness.

I had the day off work and was sleeping in when my Uncle called. I was staying at my parent house at the time. I woke up and got the phone and he asked for my dad. No one else as home and I told him so. Then he asked if I saw what happened on TV. I'm all groggy and have no idea. He then tells me that airplanes were hijacked and crashed into the WTC. I totally didnt believe him because hes kind of a joker sometimes. He told me to go turn on the TV. So I did. I found out at 11:12am.
