Getting a HD Plasma TV just for FFXI....Follow

Yes, that's right. I just got a new, higher paying job and I'm SERIOUSLY considering getting a TV that can push a higher res. than my current one. I've got an old 32" Panasonic that I bought around 1997-98 and it was good in it's prime. But now, as I look at some of these screen shots and realize what my FFXI COULD look like, is making me sick! I mean, I had no idea that there's actual writing of "RARE" and "EX" on Rare and EX items...all I see is a red and green blob. Plus, the user agreement thing or whatever it is when your first log on, I can BARELY read that.

It is now my goal to be able to read what I'm buying in the AH!

HD Plasma TV, here I come!

Do you play the PS2 or the WIndows version, because FFXI on the PS2 is going to look crappy no matter what, limitations of the PS2 hardware.

I play on the PS2...so you're saying no matter WHAT I do, I can't even get it to look ANYTHING better? Hmmm...ok then...if I were to pick up the PC version, can I easily play my same character?

That sucks about the limitations...I mean, there HAS to be a way to get SOMETHING better...:(

Only way you are going to get higher quality graphics on FFXI is to get a high end PC. And yes, it's easy to log in under you account you've already made if you get the PC version.

I would not buy a plasma HDTV for FFXI, simply because of burn-in.

A much better choice would be an LCD HDTV. I have an LCD HDTV that I use to play FFXI (from a computer) and am quite happy with it. I specifically got an LCD HDTV because I intended to play games on it, and the burn-in issue turned me away from plasma HDTVs.

Couldn't agree with you more Ditiris. I think LCD is a much better choice beause of the burn-in issue...there are so many things in the game that are always there that could cause a major burn-in...such as the box around the text at the bottom of the screen...or if you happend to use a fishing bot...but I would go with LCD. Cheaper, just as good, and will last you quite a bit longer.

Just get a nice 20in LCD monitor for the PC version. Trust me, my Hitachi does a beautiful job on this game. You can really see the difference when you look at the PC and the PS2 version of GTA Vice City. No comparison!

I have a 50" HD LCD TV and it still doesn't look great ;) The only thing that's nice about it is that the screen is so huge it's easy to read all the text and if you're a healer very easy to keep an eye on everyone's stats because it's not a millimeter point text :) and you don't have to worry about burn in. Mine is fine... just don't leave the tv on if you're afk for a long time.
