I agree on your rap, I don't necessarily agree with your other good/bad selections.

Rap/HipHop is the best thing to happen to music since Jazz.
What is heavy metal/rock doing differently now that it didn't do 25 years ago? Rap is always changing, and even though it's pretty bad right now (mainstream wise), there are still lots of REAL good groups out there.

HipHop for ever... HipHop for life!

You know honestly Im glad you two think rap is bad music. Thats good you guys have your own opinions...I can't stop that. Its just funny because "Rap Music" is all around you know. In your commercials, your TV shows, your clothes, your movies, your food, everywhere you turn rap is somewhere. Somthing that you hate so much has become mainstream in white america this just proves to you how much "Rap Music" has become such an influence. I rarely see Rock/Metal/Hard Rock in mainstream white america...what has happened? Something that was so dominate for many years has fallen off. Maybe this is the reason why you hate or consider "Rap Music" bad.

Have you two actually sat down and listened to Rap Music have you searched around for some different kind of Rap Music then just the straight up kill'em ****. Have you...or did you just listen to a bit and denounce the whole thing bad. Please post back I want to know where your coming from.

Well, actually, I used to listen to strictly rap a few years ago, but I think it all sucks now. I enjoyed Tupac, Biggie, Puff Daddy and Mase. But all this crap now is just unoriginal and boring. I hear it come on, and I have to struggle to get my finger to the dial to change it. Not because it is so good I don't want to change it, but because it is making me so bored and sleepy that I can barely move.

As far as your claim that rap dominates mainstream media today, that is a half-truth. It very well may dominate the media that is aimed towards younger groups, but they never use rap for media directed towards older age groups. And by older, I mean anything probably above 22-23 years of age.

Jazz artist like W. Marsalles works with hiphop artists all the time... you'd be suprised how respected rap is by a certain community of musicians.

And as far as rap all sounding the same... that's because you listen to the radio and watch videos (shame on you). I'd bet my life that you've never heard Kanye West's new CD, which has to be some of the most original music to come out in at least a decade. Dont say all rap sounds the same... say the truth... all rap that YOU hear sounds the same. Since when did radio and tv give accurate perceptions of GOOD music? Wake up people. Time to stop being sheep.

No, but I wuoldn't be surprised how respected MONEY is by a certain community of musicians. Namely, all of them.

The Rolling Stones made a Disco Album when there was money there too, how'd that work out as an art form?

Well, W. Marsalles is the greatest Jazz musician of our generation... hands down. He's won pullizer prizes and teaches jazz theory at universities... so i doubt he would do anything for money.

Oh man this thread could go on forever.

But since you asked..

Don't like:

1. Nu-metal clones. Don't get me wrong, I like a lot of nu-metal stuff..but I just get annoyed when it could possibly be 3 bands that all sound the same.

2. People that think they are orginal but are really blatant wannabes. Prime example - Oasis.

3. Christian Metal - WTF? LOL..really any kind of religious music.

4. PopPunk - This makes me cringe. Ok ok if that lil Avril whatever twit ran into a REAL punk in a dark ally...

5. Anything by Creed or Staind (WHINERS)

6. Girly rock bands - whats so metal about a bunch of teeny boppers singing about makeup and they jsut happen to find the distortion button on the amp. (Otep RULES)

7. Britney and all of her clones. Hmm people are catching on that I have no talent...(takes more clothes off)...that should help!

Anything else is fair game for my likeability hehe!

Speaking of Miles... The only album made by Hip Hop artists, Blackstar, is, in my opinion, the new Kind of Blue. It is as good as Hip Hop or Rap can get. It is thoughtful, articualate and well produced. Mos Def and Talieb Kweili.
Seriously, check it out.

We're talking about Wynton Marsailis, right?

This guy:

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Trumpeter Wynton Marsalis says he's a rocker, but not a rapper.

Marsalis, in town for a performance at Ohio State University, told students at suburban Westerville South High School that rap music was a modern-day "minstrel show."

Yeah, he's a big rap fan, I'm sure money had nothing to do with it.

Smash - i never said he was a rap fan... i said he's worked with hiphop artists. There are some rap artists that he respects and has recorded with.

It's a shame i had to spell that out for you... maybe when you get older you'll catch on quicker and not just see what you WANT to see.

I don't dislike rap, actually.

I just think calling it the most important thing since Jazz is ignorant and stupid.

What music since Jazz do you know that has influenced the entire world the way HipHop has? You could say Rock n Roll, but with its current state, i wouldn't say it in public.

Do you even know the history of modern music?
