Happy Rhodes has a new album coming out. I've never actually listened to her but someone was all jazzed up about it on another board so I'm passing it along to aid your quest.

What a coincidence, I filled out a music survey the other day that asked what band I hated and I put ICP. Good bands Codyy.

I want to marry her.
Good song.

Call me a total fangirl, but I like Puscifer's new album a lot. Puscifer is actually Maynard James Keenan's solo project (MJK is the lead singer for Tool and a A Perfect Circle); however it really sounds like neither.

The best way to describe it is strange, electronic, somewhat jazzy, pornographic lounge music- but it works. I also enjoy it for gaming (currently listening to it as I play FFXI and forum browse)... and weight lifting, don't ask why.

You can check out the Myspace to give a few of the songs a try and see if you like them. My favorite is Rev 22:20. ^_^ Oh,and if you're offended by profanity, sex etc. then this is not for you.
Puscifer/Maynard's Myspace

Edited for a click-able link.

I dig me some Poe. She has quite the range of styles.

If we're discussing female singers with deep, evocative voices, I feel obligated to mention Mary Fahl (formerly of October Project):
Bury My Lovely
Ariel (Shitty fan video by someone who apparently never read The Tempest)
Return to Me
Dark time (Another fan vid)

Despite her gloomy videos with the prerequisite church interior scenes, etc, Flea and I saw her at a show and she was very engaging in person; telling jokes, making self-depreciating references to some career moves and finally having a boozy duet with Susan Werner*. After the show, Flea and I chatted with her for a few minutes and she congratulated us on our first date and predicted that we'd get married since our first date was at her show Smiley: laugh

*Not that I expect any Susan Werner fans here but I've seen her shows several times now and she is always fantastic live if only for her incredible vibe

Yeah, I was also going to chime in about Poe. Love her stuff!

As far as female artists go, my favorite is definitely Tori Amos. She has an amazing voice with a very broad range, and is one of the most talented modern pianists out there; not to mention her lyrics are edgy, albeit vague at times.

Not amazingly related to the thread but my own post made me think of it ---

While Mary Fahl surprised me the most live with the differences between her music and personality, I've seen Hope Sandoval (formerly of Mazzy Star) live a few times and she is exactly the same as you'd expect from her albums. During her tour for So Tonight That I Might See, I saw her at the Metro in Chicago and, during the show, the snap/zipper on the back of her dress must have broke. She just wandered off mid-song holding her dress closed, came back a minute or two later, mumbled "sorry" in a barely coherant voice and began singing again. That was honestly the most emotion I've ever seen that woman convey.

She's a beautiful woman and I love her voice and wasn't disappointed in the shows musically but, God damn woman, light a fire under your *** for a few minutes from time to time.

I remember the Rolling Stone review for STtIMS reading "Music that makes the Cowboy Junkies sound positively wired"
