Lucy Item Collector and the EULAFollow

#1 Dec 31 2003 at 12:31 PM Rating: Decent
I know that in the past, it was said that you could not have any programs running in the background while running EQ.

Anyone have any word from Sony as to if the Item Collector violates this rule or not?

Thanks for your time!

Sony doesn't care about item collectors. Sony is looking for things that alter the game (like a few weeks ago when there was an error in a trade skill made item price and people were using bots to facilitate the buying/combining/selling to make money, giving them an unfair advantage)

If they ban you for using it, they need to ban everyone who uses the magelo update as well.

Thank you for your replies. Yes, I thought of the Magelo collector also, thats why I don't use it either. :)

I agree with Dedley, I don't use Item Collectors either. That's not to say that I wouldn't like to use them, but imo it's too risky if they could end your characters over it. This is an excerpt from the 1/15/03 patch message:

/quote
** User Interface **
- Item Links are once again creatable from Items and from other Item Links. Please do not attempt to "mine" the servers for undiscovered items. Links now have a built-in mechanism to prevent those who would go on fishing expeditions by sending up many bad links in an attempt to discover new items. These invalid links are logged, as are the accounts of those who create them.
/quote off

Is using the Item Collector considered mining for items? Seems like it would be....

That message was about people using a bug with eqim to create fake item links to items that never dropped in game. Thats what they meant by mining for items. It seems very unlikely that anyone would ever get banned for using a passive item collector, as it has absolutely no effect on gameplay. It's no secret who my play character is or how to get in touch with me, so I think after all this time they would have atleast done so if there were any issues with it. :)
