Undo Accidental Rate-downsFollow

#1 Apr 23 2011 at 1:49 PM Rating: Good
More than once I've hit the red arrow instead of the green arrow by accident. I feel bad that something I wanted to praise has been inadvertently scorned by my careless index finger.

Could we maybe possibly have the option to undo a rate down or rate up? You can keep it locked afterward so we can't then change the arrow to the other thing, that's fine - but I'd rather have no official opinion on a post than the wrong one recorded forever.

Obviously we need to move the arrows even further apart, like we did when they were first implemented.

That's a good idea, too. Either way, Catwho needs to drink less.

I wish I could blame alcohol for my inability to use precise motor function in this instance, but I haven't had a drink since Thursday. Smiley: laugh

Nope, I just have a slippery mouse and/or bad aim.

May be just easier to add a confirm button.

e.g.
"Are you sure you want to rate down xxx Y/N"
"Are you sure you want to rate up xxx Y/N"

Maybe when you click the arrow it could only have the one you clicked disappear instead of both arrows? That way if you did click one on accident you could "undo" it by clicking the other arrow. You would miss out on actually rating the person as you intended to, but it's better than rating them the opposite direction.

That would only be a massive pain in the ***.

Indeed. There are certain threads, hem, that tend to get rated a lot, hem, one way or the other. A dialog box would be a total just be a drag.

Hrm. I thought you actually could change your own rating. I know at one point it was possible. Have to look into it. A confirmation dialogue isn't going to happen.

I was wrong; it was never possible so far as I've looked. I thought you could click the opposite arrow at some point in the past and it would remove (or at least counterbalance) the rating.

We're going to add an actual undo button that appears after you rate that will just flat-out remove your own rating leaving you free to rate (or not) the post.

You will notice that we historically don't ever do anything about people being rate camped if its becase they made a sockpuppet to get around therating of their previous account. For one thing, it gives the asylumites something to do. And no, i'm not camping you. If I was, you would notice. On the other hand, we also don't tend to ban people for making a sockpuppet to switch over as their main as long as they don't do it too often and don't mind me muting or banning their old accounts afterwards. If they make a ratebot with it, then we squish them. If they use both accounts at the same time to troll a thread, then we squish them. It also depends on the forum they post in. Varus in the asylum for example is on his 87th account give or take. if he posted anywhere else i'd probably put a stop to it. but some of the asylumites enjoy having him around. Those same asylumites also enjoy itching.

That's not why I made the account.

And I don't know why you're on about this "I" stuff. I wasn't referring to you, you must have a guilty conscience.

I don't want the rating to be changed or anything of the sort, I'd simply like to know who's doing it.

We never give out names of raters to other people. And go ahead and keep pushing things there and see what happens. Really.
