Any Skin on Any Site?Follow

I'd really like to see this feature implemented. Right now, the only game forums I frequent are the WoW ones. So I normally navigate to wow.allakhazam.com. Thing is, I don't really like either WoW skin, and would prefer to use a different one.

But the only way I know of to have quick access to the WoW forums while retaining the skin of my choice is to create bookmarks for all the forums after navigating to them from another site.

Wouldn't it make sense to make any skin available for any forum?

Historically, this request has been met with silence or a tidy GFY in the past.

Why can't you just go to wow.allakhazam.com then change the wow part to whatever skin you want...?

The menus at the top of the page reflect the network you are on. It makes navigating between forums much more annoying. If you don't often switch to different sub-forums, it's one thing. But I tend to jump around the WoW forums a lot.

Yeah. I use the dark FFXIV skin because it's easy on my eyes, but I only tried playing that for about a month when it first came out. If I want to find anything game-specific in the wikibase, I have to open the main forum list or switch to the view that goes with the game I'm looking up and view it in whatever colors are set for that game...

Hm. Like I said in OOT, I don't see the big difference between looking at the pull down menu at the top, or just going back to the thread index. It's one click more, that's it.

But I don't move around as much as you, it sounds.

This is something we've considered before. There are a lot of reasons that it isn't doable without a pretty big overhaul of the way things work. Pretty big, actually, is likely an understatement. Many things related to skins, menus, and more are completed tied together, and certain JavaScript-related things (including item pop-ups and mouseovers,) also are a combination of skin+subdomain+domain and all of that code would have to be completely overhauled.

How feasible is adding skin options to all of the sites, like ffxiv? Just to be nice to people who really can't stand certain color combinations?

That would be awesome. With the old stylesheets you could just make a custom stylesheet with the colors you want, like with the Hello Kitty skin, but I don't think it's possible anymore.

Time to find a browser that lets you have a TON of bookmarks on your toolbar? Smiley: frown

The path dropdowns should help make it easier to move around forums outside your chosen site's normal area. Not the same thing of course, but it should help if you want to make the jump to another site's theme. We'd also like to improve the paths to make them more useful in this way.

That's more feasible, and we'll very likely be adding theme choices to more sites, but it wouldn't be to all sites.

Could there be a generic darkish theme for all sites? I'm using the FFXIV dark one because it's similar to the old (I'm talking 2004 here) Alla news site, which was really easy on the eyes.

EDIT: I imagine that part of what holds somehting like this back would be making background colors work with the game-related pictures at the top of the screen, but I'm not sure. I just turned off the picture myself.

This would still have the same problems. Every site has unique styles for it's unique content, and having a theme that works on all sites would mean collecting all unique styling for all sites, some of which may also conflict.

I think a darkish option would at least be good, even if it isn't a universally generic one.
