I would like to report a problem I have been having on ZAM for a few weeks and see if anyone else has been having similar issues. I seem to be losing some of the layout data from ZAM sites once every 1-5 times I load a page. I suspect a I'm losing a Stylesheet, but to be brutally honest, I'm too lazy to check.

The page loads all of the data, but it is all left justified and most of the formatting is missing. It also causes some content overlap where the forum lists are displayed behind the forum entries and other menus, causing quite a mess. I will take a Screenshot and post it next time it happens, I'm sorry I didn't think to get one already.

I am running:
Google Chrome 15.0.874.121 (though the problem has existed for a few updates)
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Wireless 802.11g

Clear your cache. I have this problem from time to time, and most often it's fixed by cleaning stuff up on my end.

Thank you Lubriderm, I do periodically clean my Cashe, but this problem seems to be almost exclusive to ZAM's pages. It's not something I'm not willing to put up with, but I thought it would be nice to point it out so they can check to see if there is a problem on their end. Also, clearing my Cashe seems to only temporarily alleviate the problem at best (this last time the problem poped up the very next time I loaded the page).

We haven't had any other reports of problems with the CSS file, and everything is loading correctly on my end and from a few other test locations I tried out, so I'm thinking the problem isn't with the servers. There could be a couple of other things going on. It could be a problem with your ISP, it could be a problem with a router somewhere between our servers and yourself, or it could be a cache issue. You might want to check how large your browser cache is set to. if it is set to something very small, you may want to make it larger. You might also want to try running disk defragmenter on the drive that contains your cache file location, as fragmented cache files can sometimes cause that effect.

You also might try viewing one of the other site skins to see if the issue is confined to a specific skin. For example try everquest.allakhazam.com instead of ffxiv.zam.com, etc.

If none of that works, let me know and we can check a few more things.

Everyone has this issue from time to time, from what I've seen in other threads. It's never a huge issue for most people though. Occasionally I'll get a page load where the CSS doesn't make it through (despite having it cached, no idea how that works).

Alright, I ran some more in-depth tests on my side and eliminated some possibilities. I was able (admittedly with some difficulty) to reproduce the problem on Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Chrome. The size of the Cache seems to have little to no baring on when the problem occurs. Increasing the size of the cache to 512MB still eventually produced the problem. Clearing my Cache, on the other hand, seems to increase the chances of encountering the problem. On several separate occasions, I had the the problem occur the first time I visited the site with a clean Cache (though this is still within the bounds of statistical normality).

In addition, I tested it on ZAM Everquest, the problem still occurred (eventually).

It bares mentioning that the problem only occurs once in 30-50 refreshes, I was off on my original estimate (apparently I refresh a lot more often than I thought I did).

Given that the problem doesn't appear to be pandemic, I'm more than willing to live with it and say that it is probably a problem with my ISP. I posted these results mostly for closure and so you would have the information available if you wanted to look into it more.

yeah, given that I'd probably call it an ISP issue as well. They may be using a compression package taht doesn't like the way the site is set up. You might be able to set up a workaround by copying the .css file from a good load somewhere and then setting it as a custom CSS at least under firefox. Not an ideal solution, but one that would make it less annoying for you until it can be resolved properly.
