In the latest bit of electoral weirdness, presidential primary candidate Rick Perry is challenging Congressional House minority leader Nancy Pelosi to a debate.

Newt also seems to have surged back up to front runner, which shocked me considering I thought everyone that was working on his campaign had quit.

Newts been around the block. I think it was in his plans to kick-back for a bit and wait for the whackos to reveal their political incompetence.

Could you imagine having a president named 'Newt'?

Newt's the latest "Anyone But Romney".

Expect him to crash now that his $300,000 "I was just a historian" paycheck from Fannie Mae has turned out to actually be closer to two million dollars. A fact he didn't exactly advertise when asked about it during a recent debate.

That and the fact that dude's just a ****. He has all the charisma of a **** lesion.

He's a good strategist, not a charismatic leader.

Not really that bad of an idea. If he beats her, he becomes a strong front runner. If he loses, he can drop out now and save some money.

It's more bizarre than anything else. Pelosi and the president are in separate spheres of government. Sure, they both have opinions on policy issues but so do the other actual presidential candidates.

And, of course, there's nothing at all in it for Pelosi. Who would consider it a coup to beat Perry in a debate these days? At worse, she "loses" and takes the hits, at best she "wins" and looks like she just took time out of her schedule to beat a Special Ed student.

Edit: lulz...

I didn't say it was good for her, but from his perspective. And if she backs down, he and the pundits can claim she was afraid of him.

I already edited in her response.

No one but the already converted would actually think she should feel obligated to debate some random guy who decided to challenge her. If he wants to debate her, he should run for her Congressional seat.

That'll definitely hurt her chances for the presidency...

Agreed. Won't stop them from patting him on the back. The only people he has to convince are the Anyone but Romney people and they'd eat it up.

So which boogeyman will the republicans choose

the black man who wants their white women?
the mormon?
Or the moron?

Perry has an edge because republicans clearly don't rate intelligence high on their list of necessary qualities for leaders

Flavor of the Month (tm) is swinging over to Newt Gingrich, of all people.

Every time he opens his mouth, he sounds like a total *******. He also sounds like he knows he's smarter than you. (He actually is one of the more intelligent candidates in the race, but with Bachman "vaccines make your babies retarded" and Perry "I can't remember what that third department is I want to close" as competitors, that's not saying much.)

The ******* thing flies with the Limbaugh crowd, but the "I'm smarter than you and I know it" attitude doesn't.

Giving him until the first week of December to flame out again.

To be fair, Newton is a name I like. What scares me is that his middle name is Leroy. If this guy gets the nomination, he might steal the black vote from Obama.

It never really occurred to me that Newt is short for Newton. He should use Newton.

Fig Newtons are named after the town in MA.

So we shouldn't all try our damnedest to rile up the Pubbies by calling him "Leroy" at every opportunity?

Back in Cain news, Hermie was a no-show at an scheduled interview once he learned it would be recorded by C-SPAN Smiley: laugh

Right wing spin:
Look, this guy has a middle name that more or less means 'the king'. And here he is humbly trying for a lowly title like 'president'. This is a totally selfless individual, gentlemen.

Newt would be a good candidate with this crop of Republican candidates, if voters didn't fucking hate him even more than they hate Hillary Clinton.

Good job of him keeping his head down while the other neo-cons self destructed, though.
