In the 80's, $9 got you a case of Blatz.

True story.

I lived off keystone light for about three years. Now that I'm financially stable my wife and I only drink that finest craft brews available.

Pretty much just Rogue Dead Guy and Harp Irish Lager for her.

My father always drinks Old Milwaukee. As a kid, I thought that must mean it's the best beer EVER, so one time I asked to try a sip. It tasted HORRIBLE. I asked him how he could drink that, and he said "When I was younger, it was the cheapest beer I could afford. After a few decades of drinking it, you get used to it."

For my generation, the "cheap" stuff is probably Natty. And of course, Four Loko if you just want to get plastered for next to nothing. I'm willing to spring extra to drink Sam Adams or Yuengling (which is actually still pretty cheap).

Beast used to be the cheapest back when I was in undergrad, coming in at $1 less than Natty (and better tasting, IMO). I think we could pick it up for $7-8 a case or so, until my senior year when they jacked the price to $11 for some unexplained reason. Then we just switched to Busch at $12. Most other folks opted for the Natty then.

Partially irrelevant, but I just upped my monthly cable bill by $10.00 yesterday so that I might watch H2 (formerly "History International") and the Science channel, now that History and Nat Geo are filled with petty ******** reality shows like Swamp People and 10x reruns of Pawn Stars and American Pickers.

Also irrelevant to the OP, but relevant to my prior comment, I just went to the Nat Geo channel's web site to jog my memory of some of the stupid shows they've been putting out and was greeted with a single 728x90 advertisement... nothing else. It appears they REALLY hate adblock users, enough so that they're willing to degrade their entire web site for the sole purpose of presenting the user with a banner ad. /smh

That we manage to be so much more intelligible while stone-drunk than you are while sober says a lot more about you than it does us.

Are you a recovering alcoholic, Varus?

Otherwise, it always makes me shake my head a little when people go to an extreme in avoiding something like that. Alcohol's been a rich part of human civilization since the start and, while getting blitzed nightly isn't a wise idea, bragging about complete abstinence seems unnecessarily Puritanical and depriving yourself of an experience for no good reason.

I feel the same about TV. Yeah, there's a lot of crap on TV. There's some really good stuff as well. Watch the good stuff and don't watch the bad stuff. Bragging about not owning a TV (or a working TV) seems like bragging that you don't own any books because most books are pretty stupid.

Works fine for me. Chrome with ad blockers installed.

Whichever anonymous blob said this, you're drawing a terrible analogy. You don't need to own a TV to watch (what are normally called) TV programmes. Now, you could say you can read using an e-reader, and argue that owning e-books doesn't qualify as owning books (tenuous), but to do so robs your argument of any sting it may have said.

So stand up, sit down and shut the fuck up, you pumped-up chump. How dare you have an opinion not consonant with my own?
