You have this weird ardor with me being "butt hurt". I'm not as choleric as you might perceive. I only assumed that you weren't an idiot , but if you're arguing the contrary, I will accept that as well.

Anyone else noticed him breaking out his thesaurus for completely superfluous gems like this? He's been doing it a lot.

That intellectual inferiority complex raising its ugly head, I suppose.

He's going to insist that this isn't the case, but he definitely didn't use them before I blocked him.

#86Almalieque, Posted: Dec 19 2011 at 11:20 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I laughed because a week or so ago, someone accused me of using "big words to appear smart" before I started using GRE words. Now, you all are creating these wild accusations...

What a crock of ****! 90+% of the posters here are far more articulate than you, by a landslide. While many of the topics you argue in are subjective, the one thing in all of them that is not, is the fact that almost everyone here spells better, uses a wider vocabulary and uses proper punctuation better than you.

Now that I have an opening available for grad school in the near future, I have to start studying for the GRE. I noticed a while back that I was actually getting dumber by interacting with you all and being out of school for so long. I didn't learn any new vocabulary and my writing actually got worse. Since I wont remember any of these words unless I use them, I decided to use them on this forum.

In no way shape or form am I using this GRE app. as a way to appear smarter than anyone here. That's done by everyday interaction. Smiley: grin
I'd read Classic novels to learn and/or reinforcement vocab for the GREs.

I think you'll find though that the vocabulary will be the least of your worries.

#94Almalieque, Posted: Dec 19 2011 at 12:01 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Although I tend to do horrible on standardized tests, I think with the proper training, I'll do ok. Apparently the GRE has recently changed and I need to buy a newer guide, as my current one is from 2008. Fortunately the math part is more of a comparison than actual arithmetic. Ironically, I tend to do better on the verbal/English parts because I over think the math parts (use too much time) and guestimate the rest.

I honestly would rather just read the dictionary as opposed to reading a novel. I use my GRE app, look the words up on dictionary.com (to get the full definition) and use it here. I have to actually use the word or I'll forget it.

This is why your usage is poor. You need to learn things in context. The dictionary is a tool for when you need clarification of the meaning, but in order to rapidly learn and recall the information it's not the proper tool. There is a reason you'll forget it, it's because you are seeing it as an isolated unit and not a piece of a larger whole. It's like trying to learn a foreign language by memorizing the definitions.

What I'm saying here is you're doing it wrong.
