Well, you've mastered the obvious.

They removed some of the most egregious stuff, but I am not at all happy with the further expansion of the executive office. Why do we even have the other branches anymore? Why not just sweep majestically back to a monarchy?

Cause then we'd have to find some old women to sit around and look royal.

So this is how liberty dies - with thunderous applause.

Why the hell were people applauding at the end of Episode III? The movie was an insult to all that was holy in this world.

And, in any case, I'm still extremely unhappy about the state of the bill. It still just tramples all over the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth amendments.

Anyone who speaks against our government may now be labeled a terrorist for the express purpose of indefinite detention without due process or constitutional liberty. The implications of this bill are freaking scary. I'm not sure what to make of it.

Because the travesty of a prequel series was finally over?

Not duped, so much as given the choice between local expedience or future intangibles, without seeing the price-tag.

You Democrats don't get to complain about Bush era limitations on civil liberties anymore by the way. Sure, they sucked, but look at the recent competition...

Honestly, these can just be seen as a continuation of a political process put into practice by Bush, who was doing the same thing. Except it was blatantly illegal when he did it.

Kinda useless to debate which is worse, though. They both suck and are utterly unacceptable.

Honestly not trying to. That was why I added the thing about arguing which is work being irrelevant. Rereading it shows that it probably wasn't obvious what I meant though.

I'm absolutely disgusted with Obama over this issue. He's faaaaar from my ideal president, but I was at least hopeful that he'd be willing to take a hard stance on a bill that was so obviously a direct attack on our basic rights. But, honestly, he's exactly what a president who followed Bush would like to--adding to executive power, using the precedent of the vast power increase of the previous presidency to legitimatize it.

Most presidents from either party would have done the same thing. Doesn't make it okay, and doesn't mean I won't happily berate Obama for the choice.

It's like he's deliberately trying to not get re-elected or something.

I really see no good reason for not vetoing it, at all.

You mean the defense bill written by a Republican dominated House which was only watered down what little it was because of objections from the White House?

Good point. Smiley: dubious
