Resting from a ridiculously hectic work week. Let me tell you, the Japanese make great TVs and Cars, but OMFG don't let them design a tester. And there's a completely different cultural thing about how they debug problems that can drive westerners nuts. Try having an email conversation (with timezone differences), that consists of me saying "here's a list of problems I'm seeing. I think it might be X, Y, or Z going on, but I don't know how your system is supposed to work. Can you provide me any information about how systemA gets information from systemB that might help? And do those errors indicate any specific problem?" and getting an answer like "did you check the manual for configuring X?" and my personal favorite: "SystemA gets its configuration during boot time". Argh!!! I wanted to know how it did it, and where the damn configuration files are hidden. I damn well know it reconfigures itself at boot time. /pulls-out-hair
Seriously. After three days of back and forth, he casually slips in a request that I send him a couple boot-log files hidden on the system in the middle of a bunch of other run-around type non-answers. I'm like: There's a log? Hot damn! Fixed the problem literally 30 seconds after knowing where that one file was. There's absolutely zero system administration level documentation on these things. Sigh...
So... Heavy drinking will ensue tonight. On Saturday, I will be going to watch my niece perform in the youth production of the Nutcracker (again). That's always fun. After that, going to a work group dinner thing at some restaurant. There may be beer involved.
Sunday will be resting, watching football. Might do some Christmas shopping as well. Hopefully next week will be relatively relaxed (not counting on it though).
