Well, sh*t. Why should they get offended? They stole just about all of it from us pagans anyhow. The tree, the mistletoe, the gifts, even the date, pretty much all lifted wholesale from various pagan traditions. Pretty silly to be offended about non-believers celebrating when we came up with the whole thing in the first place.
So, you're a pagan now?

Keep up, Poldy.

Where did this happen? One of those 40 page Almabaji argument threads? I can never pay attention to those for more than a few pages.

I guess I missed where he was pagan. I thought he was still just a hypervigilant atheist, though I suppose the two aren't mutually exclusive.

Also, I really like the use of "we" and "us" in that quote, like Shador was part of the creative process.

Hey, remember that time Loki turned into a female horse, then had sex with that other horse, and then gave birth to that eight-legged horse?

Good times man, good times.

Except if it were baby photos, it would be like looking at before and afters of Michael Jackson. Only instead of turning into a white guy, he changes into a chick!

Sick want to ask me if we wanted to put neo odinism down on the children's school registration for a religion just to see what they would stay down here. I admit I thought about it for a while before declining

I am actually more offended by people that call themselves Christians suddenly trying to mimmick a Christian life for this brief time.. only to go back to ignoring God's Word for the rest of the year..
Ironically is has grown into the same form of religious legalism that Christ so vehemently spoke against..

Our new tradition of a New Years Resolution is eerily similar to the Jewish Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement).. when they are called to reflect on their sins and attempt to improve themselves.. all the time ignoring that Christ has provided the only way to Atonement. (Since on 70AD the actual Biblical Yom Kippur became impossible to follow after the Romans destroyed God's Temple)..
Legalism in the highest
So indeed I suppose it is sadly amusing that many people find it in themselves to actually attempt to treat others with respect and dignity in the name of the "holiday spirit".. and then just go back to normal later..

I suppose that Christmas in modern day really is more similar to the Roman holiday of Saturnalia:

- Slaves let off work
- People wore stupid outfits
- party party party
- seasonal games
- fur trimmed coats
- great country wide preparations
- Rampant overeating and drunkenness
- candles
- human (and other) shaped cookies
- gift-giving
- greeting cards
- special foods

Myself and all of my brothers are atheists, and we celebrate Xmas the same way we always have with our Christian family. Even when I was a devout Christian, even among my church congregation, there were only about 1% of us who did more than casually observe the religious elements. The fact that in our perfectly normal Christmases, nothing changes regardless of our beliefs tells me that Christmas is already a mostly secular holiday.

They don't. It was just a conversation we had prior to the school application for Ashe and he had mentioned if that was on there, we should put it down

I used to have some customers that didn't believe in Christmas. They were from southern Mexico. Really nice people but they were always happy around Christmas because they didn't have to work.

My mother bought brandy this year so she could have eggnog the way she had it when she was a kid in Germany.
