I should actually get something back this year. It sucks that the State takes forever to send up out W-2's

By law, they have to be out by 1/31/12. If you don't have it by 2/15/12 you can raise a fuss.

Last year I got it on the last possible date.

Baby has to be around for the year before you he counts. When Joph v3.0 was born in Oct '10 we thought we'd get a tax break off him in our 2010-2011 taxes but nope.

That's not true. If your kid is born any time in the year, they're considered in that tax year. Dunno who did your taxes for 2010, but you need to get that sh*t amended if you can.

Exceptions to time lived with you. A child is considered to have lived with you for all of 2010 if the child was born or died in 2010 and your home was this child's home for the entire time he or she was alive. Temporary absences by you or the child for special circumstances, such as school, vacation, business, medical care, military service, or detention in a juvenile facility, count as time the child lived with you.

Yeah, that's what I thought.

Yeah, I was able to claim both my kids in the year they were born.

God, Joph, what the hell is wrong with you?

I can get my work W-2 online now, but unfortunately, I collected $190 from the state of New Hampshire in partial unemployment earlier in the year. I really hope they send out the W-whatever soon, I don't like putting this stuff off.

Now I'm just waiting on the W-2s from Ray's contractor jobs before he was picked up for his federal position. He was lucky that he was actually an employee so he didn't have to get 1099'd and calculate the taxes that he'd owe.

W2s supposedly coming out tomorrow; I saw the accountant frantically working on them today.

FAFSA is another story.

Got my W2s last week. That's not usually the issue. It's all the other forms that seem to take forever. Interest, mortgage, stock sales/exercises, dividends, etc. Some of it I can get online directly, others I actually have to wait for the paper to show up. It's not a big deal though.

My w 2 was released this morning, so my wife got the taxes done as soon as she got up.

We finally got the pre-approval for the state tax refund of the solar hot water we installed last year. That means $2K back from the state on 2012 taxes. Smiley: lol
