I have a 10" tablet and enjoy it for media consumption but I don't travel with it unless it's to a hotel room or something. It doesn't go "on the road" with me regularly.

I do appreciate the extra real estate for web browsing, watching movies and playing games.

One of life's goals at our age is to find ways to avoid having to put on the reading glasses.

Really? I wear mine all the time except driving, pretty much. I've mastered the "looking over the glasses disappointingly" thing with Hannah.

You certainly don't want to go a hundred bucks under $300 for a 10.1" tablet unless you want something that boots in Chinese and has a body made of mud and sticks. If the $399 tag on the Nexus is a bit too steep (although it is the better tablet), I'd go with the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

New (16GB) - $350
Refurb (16GB) - $265

Samsung's a solid brand in the Android device market and their Galaxy phones are the closest thing the iPhone has to competition. There's also the Asus transformer but it's the same price, plus the cost of the keypad. If you don't want the keypad, you're paying extra for the features/internal hardware you'll never use.

One benefit of the Galaxy Tab over the Nexus is that the Tab has an SD slot so you can expand the storage beyond the 16GB. Nexus lacks this feature. It's a way to keep the initial cost down (since another 16GB in base storage runs about $100) and you always seem to wind up using however much room you have.

Add some whips and chains and you've got the closest thing to a perfect bedroom situation you could hope for.

I've had the Galaxy S Advance (the budget Galaxy phone, basically) for half a year now and so far it's proven to be a good phone for what I use it for, which is basically texting, calling, browsing the internet when I'm bored as **** and as a cheap *** instagram machine.

The standard 10" tablet is more than I was looking for I think. I was kind of narrowing it down between the kindle fire+ and the nook HD+ (both with 8.9"screens) as they were in the range of money that I had set aside for his b-day. I like my Nook. Mines been a solid devise. The Kindle was winning the contest though because the Nook still is not offering up the HBO viewing app and will never be allowed to stream Amazon stuff.

He just got a ipad for work - this week. Maybe I should wait and see if he 'loves' it to death and/or how often it comes home with him, and just get him a tool for his b-day.

They make the Nexus and google stick a "google" sticker on it. Not a secret. The lack of an SD card port is annoying, but it seems unlikely that it's omitted for the $.73 cost savings. More likely it's a marketing decision. Probably a good one. After all Apple has made billions selling suckers "upgrades" of dirt cheap ram at 500% markup.

Yeah, Google's official explanation for the lack of an SD slot was "It's too confusing" Smiley: dubious

Nexus says right on their site that they're partnered with Samsung. I was just telling Elinda since she doesn't seem to have a point of reference for picking between a Samsung, an Asus, a Pandigital or a Coby.

Going to Clearwater Beach to reserve a spot for the wedding and check out a place to hold the reception. The lady who owns the restaurant is awesome. Their menu doesn't include penil but will make it for us.

Yeah, thats actually the case, and I'll be damned if I know why. Same thing goes with lack of sleep too. Also, my skills at playing solitaire and other windows computer games not involving fast motions go up exponentially too. It's wierd.

Nexus 10 tablet is also a good choice, the samsung ones will be cheaper. you might find a deal with your local cell provider.

Sorry to hear about your mom Deb. Hope you can get all that straightened out without too much agony.

I'll be home with just my son. The husband improved by leaps and bounds and decided to take off for NC this weekend. I was supposed to go with him, but I couldn't get the time off from work. He promised to drive slow and stop often to get out and move around some. But I'm still a bit worried. Also, he got the green light to officially go back to work next week.

Tomorrow I'm going to the American Craft Council's annual show with my middle child, so we can woo and ah over the handcrafted jewelry, woodwork and Art glass. Neither of us can afford to spend money there, but hope to get inspired by what we wee and maybe talk to a few jewelers about business. Then it's back home to were I'll be babysitting my grandson, while his sister goes with mom and bf to a Steam Punk Ball.

Sunday will be either spending the day recovering from all the walking, or going to help make flowers out of plastic bottles for the Maryland Faerie Festival.

My mom's fine. Actually, better than before - she's younger and in better shape than some of the orderlies at the rehab/nursing facility! After two straight nights of trying to get things cleaned up and moved around, the house is in worse shape than before and mom called to leave a message before I even woke up, saying she's ready and waiting to come home. Sigh...

I just got back in last night from a week of business travel. Mainly I'll be catching up on homework as soon as I quit procrastinating by browsing the Asylum and Fark. On a good note, I got my annual review and received a promotion, a raise, and a bonus, so that's pretty cool.

I've been looking at the Galaxy as well, I almost pulled the trigger last week but I was waiting to get my tax returns first. Speaking of, I have to scheduled my appt and gather my **** for it. Pretty much counting on getting more back than last year due to my school expenses, selling my condo for a loss, energy improvements, etc. At least I'm hoping.

We always knew it would end up a bleak life of squatting in a sublet council flat, and burgeoning Cricket Hooliganism for you.

I'll probably have the Academy Awards on the TV Sunday evening, though I generally pay little attention to award shows. I still need to see Argo.
I watched Argo Fri. night. It was pretty good. I liked seeing the 70/80 styles - though I think they were toned down some from reality. The acting at all levels was superb. I watched most of the Academy Awards last night - it was actually pretty good too. Seth did good job. Congrats to Ben and crew.
