So, while I've always favored hard rock, punk, & ska over most other flavors of music, I also have a soft spot for older hiphop. While admittedly not the biggest fan of modern rap, like most people, I still listen to a lot of the stuff I listened to in high school. Biggie, 2Pac, De La Soul, Busta, A Tribe Called Quest, Mos Def, The Beastie Boys, & Jay-Z. Of the living guys, pretty much only The Beasties [rip MCA], Mos Def [or whatever the **** he's calling himself now], & Jigga have put out anything I've liked in recent years. Which brings us to this song...

Listen to "Open Letter" Here

Lyrics Here

This is Jay Z's response to criticism of his recent trip to Cuba his sale of his stake in the Nets [so he can start his new Sports management company]. But the funny thing is, the former was really only an issue because Jay Z & his wife are "friends" with the Obamas. And now, with Open Letter, Republicans are trying to use the lines in the song:

"Obama said "chill, you gonna get me impeached"
But you don't need this shit anyway
Chill with me on the beach

As well as others to "prove" that Obama approved the trip? Which actually went through the Treasury dept.

I guess this & Rand Paul's recent trip to Howard University, where he stressed the Republican roots in African American freedom & voting rights [while not mentioning, oh, the last 60 years or so of Republican history in regards to their views on African Americans] is how they want to court minority voters.

Hillary/Biden are gonna win in a landslide, lol.

I was wondering why they'd need approval from Obama to travel to and in Cuba, but I guess there are still some pretty heavy restrictions on US visitors to Cuba. This according to Fox News:

How to get in trouble traveling in Cuba...
Quote:
While most people’s trips won’t garner the public scrutiny of Jay-Z and Beyoncé, here are some ways you might still catch some heat if you don’t follow the rules.

1Don’t Get a License

You can't simply book a flight and a hotel and head to Cuba. To get into the country legally, you need to travel with a Cuba travel organization that has an official license from the U.S. State Department. There are about a dozen of these licensed organizations now.

2Hang Out On The Beach

Tourist activities -- like visiting the beach or scuba diving -- are prohibited from itineraries. According to Treasury Department guidelines: “Each traveler must have a full-time schedule of educational exchange activities that will result in meaningful interaction between the travelers and individuals in Cuba.” This means your days will be spent going to museums, a hospital or a local Communist Party block meeting.

3Purchase Tickets From a Local Travel Agent

You can find anything on the Internet, including contact details for a local agent who will be more than happy to sell you a ticket directly -- by cash. Also, there are other third party agents that arrange travel to Cuba, usually through a third country. (By the way, the Cuban customs and immigration officials know not to stamp the passports of Americans entering the country.) You can do the same if you want to book a hotel room or a car.

4Ignore the U.S. government if it comes a calling

Say you’re busted by U.S. customs officials when bringing something back to the U.S. that you bought in Cuba. If you get a questionnaire from Treasury Department’s office, which oversees financial dealings with Cuba asking for details –ignore it. That’s what happed to tourist Zachary Sanders. After a protracted to and from in which Sanders sued the U.S. government, he finally agreed to settle the case and pay a fine of $6500.

We need to get over ourselves.

no wonder Canadians love going to Cuba so much, fewer Americans cluttering up the beaches.

Friend had a stroke a while back and was having really bad headaches throughout the night and morning. Went for support. Super exciting, I know.
